***Homo heidelbergensis*** Location: Broken Hill, Northern Rhodesia (now Kabwe, Zambia). Age: 350,000 - 250,000 years B.P. Material: plaster cast. Dimensions: length, 235 mm; width, 152 mm; height, 146 mm. Notes: RLA catalog no. 1979rp9 (cast). Cranium. Kabwe 1, also called the Broken Hill skull or Rhodesian Man, was discovered in a lead and zinc mine and assigned by Arthur Smith Woodward in 1921 as the type specimen for *Homo rhodesiensis*. Some populations migrated to Europe, where they gave Homo neanderthalis; while those who remained in Africa have evolved into Modern Men (Homo sapiens). This period delivered wooden hunting weapons that were machined with good sharp stone tools. This implies a society that begins to structure itself to make the tools, the weapons, to process the slaughtered animals.
