Hong Kong Annotated Airborne LiDAR Point Clouds
<p>The annotated point clouds were generated to train the weakly supervised semantic segmentation algorithm Semantic Query Network (SQN) to classify point clouds <sup>[1]</sup>. The dataset covers 16 tiles of airborne LiDAR data in an area of 7.2 km2 in Shatin, Hong Kong, China. 11 tiles were used for training, while 5 tiles were used for validation. There are multiple types of construction in the dataset including high-rise residential buildings, low-rise village houses, and large public buildings. Green spaces are mainly composed of wood areas in open spaces (e.g., in parks and hills) and planted trees in residential gardens and nearby roads. Point clouds are classified in ground, buildings, and trees.</p> <p>The LiDAR data is owned by the Hong Kong government. Historical Local Climate Zones (LCZ) maps for Hong Kong (1845-2000)
<p>This dataset contains GIS maps of the historical urbanization of Hong Kong at 12 timeslices from 1845-2000 (1845, 1888, 1895, 1913, 1938, 1945, 1952, 1961, 1975, 1984, 1995, and 2000). These maps were compiled through classification of historical map material, photographs, paintings, and contemporary textual accounts. The maps describe the land cover of the historical urban core of the territory of Hong Kong: Victoria City on Hong Kong Island, and the Kowloon Peninsula on the mainland. Urban form is described in terms of the Local Climate Zones (LCZ) scheme presented by Stewart & Oke (2012).</p> <p>The dataset is currently in the format of a QGIS archive, but other file formats will be made available in the future and can be requested from the authors at any time.</p> <p>For further details on the process of generating the maps and their application, please see Yee and Kaplan (2022).</p> <p> </p> <p>Yee, M., & Kaplan, J. Land Use/cover dataset of the Guangdong-Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area at 30 m Resolution from 1976 to 2020
<p>High spatiotemporal resolution, large-scale, multi-category land use data are crucial for studying regional ecological and environmental changes, urbanization impacts, and sustainable development planning.</p><p>In this study, the Google Earth Engine platform, Landsat satellite imagery, and a substantial number of manually interpreted samples were used to develop a dataset of annual land use in the Guangdong-Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) at a 30 m resolution from 1976 to 2020. This dataset, termed Annual Land Use/Cover of the Greater Bay Area (LUC-GBA), was used to analyze the annual land use variation in 11 cities within the GBA. The high level accuracy achieved with the LUC-GBA dataset was evidenced by an overall accuracy (OA) of 93.98% and a kappa coefficient of 0.92 in 2020. The OA of interannual classification models ranges from 83.9% to 93.9%, and the kappa coefficients from 0.805 to 0.923, thus demonstrating the good performance of the model in multi-category land use classification within the GBA.</p><p>Resolution: 30m</p><p>Time span: 1976-2020 (excluding 1981-1985)</p>
