Air quality data created by the hackAIR Horizon2020 project

The current datasets comprise of air quality data collected or created within the hackAIR project (https://platform.hackair.eu/) all around Europe from February 2018 until November 2018.

i) "measurements_arduino.xlsx": PM10 and PM2.5 measurements collected by hackAIR users with stationary hackAIR sensors (https://www.hackair.eu/hackair-home-v2/). These sensing devices are based either on an Arduino or a Wemos board. The first column is the unique identifier for the measurement in the hackAIR database. The date/time is in UTC timezone, while the unit of the pollutant value is μg/m3.

ii) "measurements_bleair.xlsx": PM10 and PM2.5 measurements collected by hackAIR users with mobile hackAIR sensors (https://www.hackair.eu/hackair-mobile/). The first column is the unique identifier for the measurement in the database. The date/time is in UTC timezone, while the unit of the pollutant value is μg/m3.

iii) "measurements_sky_photos.xlsx": Air pollution estimations from photos depicting sky. The hackAIR platform estimates the particulate matter content in the air from Flickr photos, photos from webcams and sky photos that users upload on the hackAIR mobile application, based on the colour of the sky. This is expressed as Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD). In the current dataset, the timezone is UTC, while AOD is unitless.

The pollutant index is based on a scale created for the purposes of the hackAIR project.

EU HORIZON2020 CSI-COP Anonymous dataset on Citizen scientists

This dataset complements CSI-COP deliverable report D4.3: 'CSI-COP Citizen Scientists Age, Gender, Socio-Economic and Geographical (AGSEG) Distribution Report'.

Researchers can review the dataset and analyse anonymous data on who the citizen scientists were in the EU Horizon2020 funded CSI-COP project with citizen scientists investigating GDPR compliance in websites and apps.

Horizon2020 [FORCeS] Puijo SMEAR-IV campaign data

A 3 month long ambient measurement campaign at SMEAR-IV station (station code FI0063R; Kuopio, Finland; https://www.atm.helsinki.fi/smear/?page_id=85) with complimenting ground station measurements. Semi-urban environment. SMEAR-IV station measurement height is at 80m above ground.

Measured quantities at SMEAR-IV: meteorological parameters, atmosheric gasses (O3, NOx, SO2), black carbon (MAAP-5012 Thermo Fischer Scientific), particle number concentration and size distribution data (DMPS). SMEAR-IV station has a switching double inlet set-up: whole air (ambient aerosol smaller than 50 um at ambient conditions), and interstitial (ambient aerosol smaller than 1 um at ambient conditions) which was utilised in black carbon measurements.

Measured quantities at ground station: meteorological parameters, atmosheric gases (O3, NOx, SO2), particle number concentration and size distribution data (SMPS, TSI Inc.), and aerosol bulk proprties (AMS, Aerodyne Reserach Inc.).

Additional data measured at the SMEAR-IV station: cloud condesation nuclei activation diameter (CCN counter, Droplet Measurement Technologies), aerosol particle bulk composition and properties (ACSM, Aerodyne Reserach Inc.), more detailed particle composition (FIGAERO-CIMS, Aerodyne Reserach Inc.), cloud droplet concentration, and visibility.

Additional data measured at the ground station: cloud condesation nuclei activation diameter (CCN counter, Droplet Measurement Technologies), more detailed particle composition (FIGAERO-CIMS, Aerodyne Reserach Inc.), small oxygenated compounds, polar molecules, BTEX, PAHs, other aromatics (VOCUS, Aerodyne Reserach Inc.).

Please contact creators for these data.

This work was supported by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No. 821205 (FORCeS).
