----
English:

The “Database of native crop varities save by participant peasants in Muru Raymi 2023 (Huanuco - Peru)" is a collective work done by Alsakuy Agroecologica with15 volunteers and the participant peasants of the Muru Raymi 2023. The volunteers made all the data collection, by surveys. While the peasants are the ones that have all the organic and historic knowledge that was given in this work.

The Muru Raymi fair is celebrated every year in Kichki district, Huanuco region. It was initially developed by “Instituto de Desarrollo y Medio Ambiente (IDMA)”, in 2002, but since 2014 it is organized by the Kichki Town Hall. The goal is to promote and enhance the native seeds conservation. In this fair participates peasants that dedicate their lives to conservation and are called “conservacionistas”, due to their hard work on preserving native and local crop varieties.

The peasants that gave their knowledge for this data base are from communal territories that historically and legally belongs to “Peasant Communities” and “Quechuas Native Villages”. Therefore, we must consider that 54,7% of the rural population in Huanuco identifies as “Quechua” and 28,44% of the whole population of the region speaks Quechua as the native language. In consequence, most of the crop varieties names in this data base are written in Quechua. Even though efforts to standardize the names have been made, as the surveys and data management were done by non-quechua speakers, there is a chance that some mistakes will be found. The standardization has been based on the way to read the names in Spanish and in function or the orality of the farmer.

You will find 3 docs: " BD_CODIFICADA_COMPLETA" which has all the data collected and coded of each of the participant peasants (geographic and demographic details, seeds saved, way of harvesting, way to save seeds, way to get seeds); "BD_CODIFICADA_DESCRIPTIVA" which has only detailed information of the way of harvesting an the way to save seeds, of each peasant; " BD_VARIEDADES" which has only the information of the crop varieties that each pesant mentioned during the surveys. All the docs has a tab for captions that explain the codes assigned to each peasent. Those codes help to protect the anonimity and personal information od the participants.

We hope this data base can be used by anyone that has interest in food sovereignty, alternative agriculture and agroecology, to a continue promoting of the necessity to save native species.
