(Oxford: India Office, 1903): volume 1,</strong></a>&nbsp;<strong>number 1767 here with notations and hyperlinks].</strong></li> </ul> <p>Kh&acirc;ḳ&acirc;ni (Nos. 950-970).</p> <p>950</p> <p>Kulliyy&acirc;t-i-Kh&acirc;ḳ&acirc;n&icirc; (كلّيّات خاقانى).</p> <p>The complete poetical works of Afḍal-ald&icirc;n Bad&icirc;l Ibr&acirc;h&icirc;m bin &lsquo;Al&icirc; Najj&acirc;r Kh&acirc;ḳ&acirc;n&icirc; of Shirw&acirc;n, who had originally the takhalluṣ of Ḥaḳ&acirc;&rsquo;iḳ&icirc;, which he exchanged at the suggestion of his spiritual guide Ab&ucirc; al&rsquo;al&acirc; Ganjaw&icirc; for Kh&acirc;ḳ&acirc;n&icirc; in honour of the Kh&acirc;ḳ&acirc;n-i-Kab&icirc;r Min&ucirc;ćihr and his son Akhsat&acirc;n or Akhtas&acirc;n, comp. on some points of difficulty connected with these Haft Iḳlim, Nos. 1385 and 1397, cols. 480 and 482 in this Cat.</p> <p>Kh&acirc;ḳ&acirc;n&icirc; died probably A.H. 595 (A.D. 1199); another possible date is A.H. 590 (A.D. 1194), but quite impossible is A.H. 582 (A.D. 1186); see on Kh&acirc;ḳ&acirc;n&icirc;&rsquo;s life and poetry especially Khanykov, M&eacute;moire sur Khacani, in Journal Asiatique, 6<sup>me</sup> s&eacute;rie, vol. iv. p. 137 sq. (1864), and vol. v. p. 296 sq. (1865), and Salemann&rsquo;s introduction to his Russian edition of Kh&acirc;ḳ&acirc;n&icirc;&rsquo;s rub&acirc;&rsquo;&icirc;s, St. Petersburg, 1875; comp. besides Bodleian Cat., Nos. 560-581; Rieu ii. p. 558 sq.; W. Notices, p. 157; M&eacute;langes Asiatiques, iii. p. 114 sq., etc. Kh&acirc;ḳ&acirc;n&icirc;&rsquo;s poetical works have note been lithographed in Lucknow, 1879.</p> <p>This copy of the Kulliyy&acirc;t contains:</p> <p>1.Tuḥfat-al&rsquo;ir&acirc;ḳain (تحفة العراقين), the famous mathnaw&icirc; in which the poet describes his pilgrimage from Shirw&acirc;n to Makkah and Mad&icirc;nah and his way back, with special reference to the two &lsquo;Ir&acirc;ḳs, i.e. &lsquo;Ir&acirc;ḳ-i-&rsquo;ajam and &lsquo;Ir&acirc;ḳ-i-&rsquo;arab, beginning with a prose preface, on fol. 1<sup>b</sup>:خير ما اعتصم المرء بحباله كلمة العجز الخ.</p> <p>Beginning of the mathnaw&icirc; itself, on fol. 4<sup>a</sup>:</p> <p>مائيم نظارگان غمناك &ndash; زين حقّۀ سبز و مهرۀ خاك</p> <p>The contents of this mathnaw&icirc; have been given in detail by Khanykov in his M&eacute;moire (quoted above), pp. 173-179; see also Wiener, Jahrb&uuml;cher, vol. 64, Anzeigeblatt, pp. 16-18. It has been lithographed in Agra, 1855, and in Lucknow, 1876; extracts from it have also been printed in Lahore, 1867.</p> <p>2.Diw&acirc;n (ديوان), containing ḳaṣ&icirc;das, tarj&icirc;&rsquo;bands, ḳiṭ&rsquo;as, and ghazals, all mixed together without any order, on fol. 91<sup>b</sup>, beginning: دل من پير تعليمست و من طفل زبان دانش الخ.</p> <p>A second, anonymous, mathnaw&icirc;, noticed in the Kulliyy&acirc;t-i-Kh&acirc;ḳ&acirc;n&icirc;, Bodleian Cat., No. 560, is not found in this copy.</p> <p>Dated the 13th of Ṣafar, A.H. 1007 (A.D. 1598, Sept. 15).</p> <p>No. 1767, ff. 407, 2 coll., each ll. 19; Nasta&rsquo;l&icirc;ḳ; illuminated frontispieces on ff. 1<sup>b</sup> and 91<sup>b</sup>; size, 11<sup>1/2</sup> in. by 6<sup>3/8</sup> in.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
