(Oxford: India Office, 1903): volume 1,</strong></a> <strong>number 2511 here with notations and hyperlinks].</strong></li> </ul> <p>1217</p> <p>A fragment of the same.</p> <p>This fragment of Amîr Khusrau’s Ḳiṣṣa-i-Khiḍr-khânî (as it is styled here) comprises less than <em>one</em> third of the whole poem; it begins with the following heading (corresponding to No. 2796, 1215 in this Cat., fol. 25<sup>a</sup>): قلم زدن نخست در شرع تيغ زدن جمهور سلاطين ماضيّه على الخصوص در آثار ذوالفقار محمّد علاء الدنيا و الدين،</p> <p>First bait (not found in No. 2796):</p> <p>كنون از باغ اصلى نو كنم بر - زشاخ خشك ريزم ميوۀ تر</p> <p>Last two headings (on ff. 72<sup>a</sup> and 76<sup>b</sup>): گرم شدن چشم دولرانى در روى شمس الحقّ ، و الدين خضرخان واز ناب مهر آب در چشمش گشتن و مهربان گشتن آن چشمۀ مهربان نیلوفر هندی و چون شعاع خورشید بصفراء زمين حکایت and افتادن، (= No. 2796, ff. 48<sup>a</sup> and 57<sup>a</sup>).</p> <p>The initial bait of the latter is:</p> <p>بمهمانى بزى شد كهنه ميشى</p> <p>بپهلو خارشی بر پشت ریشی</p> <p>The final bait of the fragment (not found in No. 2796) is:</p> <p>بفردوس حرم با غيب دلكش</p> <p>كه فردوس ارم نبود چنان خوش‘</p> <p>No date. Haft Iḳlîm, No. 816 (col. 437 in this Cat.), and Khazâna-i-‘âmirah, No. 30 (col. 256 in the Bodleian Cat.); only the Âtashkada, No. 148, and the Safînah, No. 253 (ib. col. 267 and coll. 219 and 220), fix the poet’s death at later dates, viz. A.H. 970 (A.D. 1562, 1563) and A.H. 989 (A.D. 1581), during a journey to Kashmîr in Akbar’s reign, respectively. The Muntakhab-alash’âr, Transoxania, and the Makhzan-algharâ’ib, No. 572 (ib. col. 327), fixes distinctly Bukhârâ as his birthplace; the Â’în-i-Akbarî (English translation by Blochmann, Calcutta, 1873, vol. i. p. 187) calls him Samarḳandî, but see the foot-note on the same page; other tadhkiras, for instance, Ilâhî’s خزينۀ گنج (A. Sprenger, Catal., p. 75), style him Ḥairatî Marwî. For other copies see Bodleian Cat., No. 1031; Rieu ii. p. 874, and A. Sprenger, Catal., p. 424.
