(Oxford: India Office, 1903): volume 1,</strong></a>&nbsp;<strong>number 412 here with notations and hyperlinks].</strong></li> </ul> <p>1187</p> <p>Another copy of the same.</p> <p>This copy of Am&icirc;r Khusrau&rsquo;s Kulliyy&acirc;t is much younger than the preceding one, but considerably richer in contents. It consists of the following parts:</p> <p>A.<em>Centre-columns</em>.</p> <p>1.Tuḥfat-alṣighar (تحفة الصغر), or the poems of youth, the <em>first</em> of Am&icirc;r Khusrau&rsquo;s d&icirc;w&acirc;ns, which was complete about A.H. 670 or 671 (A.D. 1272), with a preface in prose.</p> <p>Beginning of the preface, on fol.1<sup>b</sup>: حمدى كه از اوّل زادن زاد وجود بود و تناى كه از شير خوراگى الخ.</p> <p>Beginning of the poetry, on fol. 4<sup>b</sup>:</p> <p>خداى عزّ و جل ذو الجلال كن فيكون</p> <p>برى زحيرت و مستغنى از چرا وچون</p> <p>It consists of ḳaṣidas, ḳiṭ&rsquo;as (beginning on fol. 48<sup>b</sup>), and a short mathnaw&icirc;, which begins on fol. 50<sup>b</sup>:هى هى اى تيره راى الخ; other copies are described in Rieu ii. pp. 609<sup>b</sup> and 613<sup>a</sup>, and A. Sprenger, p. 467.</p> <p>2.Wasaṭ-alḥay&acirc;t (وسط الحيات), or poems of middle life, the <em>second</em> of Am&icirc;r Khusrau&rsquo;s d&icirc;w&acirc;ns, which was completed about A.H. 685 (A.D. 1286), with a preface in prose.</p> <p>Beginning of the preface, on fol. 55<sup>b</sup>: بفضل الله قد سطرت هذه الصفحات و جعلتها واسطة لبقاء الذات بعد الممات الخ.</p> <p>Beginning of the poetry, on fol. 63<sup>b</sup>: حمد رانم بر زبان لله ربّ العالمين الخ; see the preceding copy , No. 3.This diw&acirc;n consists of ḳaṣ&icirc;das, tark&icirc;bbands (beginning on fol. 123<sup>b</sup>), and ḳiṭ&rsquo;as (on fol. 139<sup>b</sup>). Blanks on fol. 83. Other copies are described in Rieu ii. pp. 610<sup>a</sup> and 613<sup>a</sup>; Bodleian Cat., No. 753, and A. Sprenger, Catal., pp. 467 and 468.</p> <p>3.Ghurrat-alkam&acirc;l (غرّة الكمال), or the poems of maturity, the <em>third</em> of Am&icirc;r Khusrau&rsquo;s d&icirc;w&acirc;ns, see Nos. 1. And 2 in the preceding copy; the preface begins here thus, on fol. 145<sup>b</sup>:غرّۀ كمال انسانى از ديباچۀ احمد (حمد read) مخترع است الخ.</p> <p>Beginning of the poetry, on fol. 194<sup>b</sup>: چه (؟ چو) زهره خاك مسكين را الخ, agreeing with the second ḳaṣ&icirc;dah of this d&icirc;w&acirc;n in the preceding copy. It contains ḳaṣ&icirc;das, tark&icirc;bbands (on fol. 292<sup>a</sup> sq.), and ḳiṭ&rsquo;as (on fol. 302<sup>a</sup> sq.). A blank on fol. 149<sup>a</sup>.</p> <p>4.Baḳiyya-i-naḳiyyah (بقيّۀ نقيّه), or the poems of old age, the <em>fourth</em> of Am&icirc;r Khusrau&rsquo;s d&icirc;w&acirc;ns, completed A.H. 718 (A.D. 1318), with a preface in prose.</p> <p>Beginning of the preface, on fol. 317<sup>b</sup>: حمدى كه بقيّۀ نقيّۀ حيوة در تحرير آن بر جرائد وجود بشمار آيد و ثناى حليه الخ.</p> <p>Beginning of the poetry, on fol. 328<sup>a</sup>:</p> <p>زبان كه بر در معنى كليد گفتار است</p> <p>زبهر شکر و سپاس یکی جهاندار است</p> <p>This d&icirc;wan (which is called in A. Sprenger, Catal., نقيّۀ بقيّه, and in Cat. des MSS. et Xylographes كتاب بقيّه و نقيّه) contains ḳaṣ&icirc;das, tark&icirc;bbands (on fol. 377<sup>a</sup> sq.), short mathnaw&icirc;s (on fol. 385<sup>b</sup> sq.), ḳiṭ&rsquo;as (on fol. 390<sup>a</sup> sq.), and a very extensive collection of ghazals, followed by a series of rub&acirc;&rsquo;&icirc;s. The ghazals (which have here the special heading of بقيّۀ نقيّه) are arranged alphabetically, except the first twelve poems, and begin, on fol. 407<sup>b</sup>:</p> <p>اى زخيال ما برون در تو خيال كى رسد</p> <p>با صفت تو عقل را لاف كمال كى رسد</p> <p>This initial poem is the first ghazal of the غرّة الكمال or <em>third</em> d&icirc;w&acirc;n in Nos. 754 and 755 of the Bodleian Cat., and of the various selections from Khusrau&rsquo;s d&icirc;w&acirc;ns and ghazals in Nos. 760 and 763-765 of the same; it appears likewise as beginning in the general collections, described in W. Pertsch, Berlin Cat., pp. 714, 831, and 832, and in J. Aumer, p. 21. The rub&acirc;&rsquo;&icirc;s begin, on fol. 824<sup>b</sup>: پاکست خداوند كريم اكبر الخ, likewise agreeing with the initial quatrain in the <em>third</em> diw&acirc;n in Nos. 754 and 755 of the Bodleian Cat., and in the general collection, No. 758, of the same. Blanks on ff. 323, 341, 489<sup>b</sup>, 611, and 629; a lacuna besides after fol. 781. Other copies of this d&icirc;w&acirc;n are described in Rieu ii. pp. 610<sup>b</sup> and 613<sup>a</sup>; Bodleian Cat., No. 756; A. Sprenger, Catal., p. 468; W. Pertsch, Berlin Cat., p. 833, and Cat. des MSS. et Xylographes, p. 351. These four d&icirc;w&acirc;ns have been printed, lucknow, 1874.</p> <p>The <em>fifth</em> d&icirc;w&acirc;n, styled نهاية الكمال, and containing poems of the last years of Am&icirc;r Khusrau&rsquo;s life (see Rieu ii. p. 613<sup>b</sup>, and Bodleian Cat., No. 757), is Not found in the India Office Collections.</p> <p>B.<em>Margin-column.</em></p> <p>5.Maṭla&rsquo;-alanw&acirc;r (مطلع الانوار), on fol. 1<sup>b</sup>, beginning:</p> <p>خطبۀ قدسست بملك قديم &ndash; بسم الله الرّحمن الرّحيم</p> <p>see No.6 in the preceding copy. Fol. 83 is left blank.</p> <p>6.Khusrau u Sh&icirc;r&icirc;n (خسرو و شيرين), on fol. 97<sup>b</sup>, beginning as in No. 7 of the preceding copy. Fol. 149 left blank.</p> <p>7.Lail&acirc; u Majn&ucirc;n ( ليلى و مجنون), on fol. 217<sup>a</sup> beginning as in No. 8 of the preceding copy.</p> <p>8.Hasht Bihisht (هشت بهشت), on fol. 292<sup>b</sup>, beginning as in No. 9 of the preceding copy.</p> <p>9.&Acirc;&rsquo;&icirc;na-i-Iskandar&icirc; (آئينۀ اسكندرى), on fol. 391<sup>a</sup>, beginning as in No. 10 of the preceding copy. The greater part of fol. 489<sup>b</sup> is left blank, but there seems to be no interruption in the text.</p> <p>10.Ḳir&acirc;n-alsa&rsquo;dain (قران السعدين), on fol. 520<sup>b</sup>, beginning as in No. 5 of the preceding copy.</p> <p>11.Nuskha-i-Khiḍrkh&acirc;n&icirc; (نسخۀ خضرخانى), i.e. Ḳiṣṣa-i-Khiḍrkh&acirc;n u Duwalr&acirc;n&icirc; ( قصّۀ خضرخان و دولرانى), or as the author himself styles it: Duwalr&acirc;n&icirc; Khiḍrkh&acirc;n (دولرانى خضرخان), see Rieu ii. p. 612<sup>b</sup>, the love-story of Khiḍrkh&acirc;n, son of Sulṭ&acirc;n &lsquo;Al&acirc;-ald&icirc;n Muḥammadsh&acirc;h Khilj&icirc; (reigned A.H. 695-715 or 716 =A.D. 1296-1316, see No. 2 in the preceding copy), with Duwalr&acirc;n&icirc;, the daughter of the R&acirc;jab of Gujar&acirc;rt, completed A.H. 715, 6th of Dh&ucirc;-alḳa&rsquo;dah (A.D. 1316, Feb.1). It is often merely called قصّۀ خضر خانى, كتاب خضر خانى, or even خضرخانى, and also bears the title of &lsquo;Ishḳiyyah (عشقيّه), see below, No. 1216. Beginning, on fol. 623<sup>a</sup>:</p> <p>سر نامه بنام آن خداوند</p> <p>كه دلها را بخوبان داد پيوند</p> <p>Ff. 629 (partly), 646<sup>a</sup>-653<sup>b</sup>, and 678<sup>a</sup>-701<sup>a</sup> are left blank. Thomas, Pathan Kings, p. 176.</p> <p>12.Nuh Sipihr (نُه سپهر), or the nine spheres, another mathnaw&icirc; which gives a poetical description of the court of Ḳuṭb-ald&icirc;n Mub&acirc;raksh&acirc;h Khilj&icirc; (who was killed A.H. 720 or 721=A.D. 1320 or 1321, see col. 320 in this Cat.), and of certain events of his reign. It was completed end of Jum&acirc;d&acirc; II, A.H. 718 (A.D. 1318, Aug. 28), comp. Rieu ii. p. 612<sup>b</sup>; Bodleian Cat., No. 776, and Elliot&rsquo;s History of India, iii. p. 557.</p> <p>Where an analysis of the poem is given. Beginning, on fol. 701<sup>b</sup>:</p> <p>خدا را كنم بر سر نامه ياد</p> <p>كه بر بنده درهاى معنى گشاد</p> <p>It breaks off on fol. 781<sup>b</sup> in consequence of a lacuna.</p> <p>13.Mift&acirc;ḥ-alfut&ucirc;ḥ, incomplete at the beginning, in consequence of the same lacuna; the first bait which appears here, on fol. 782<sup>a</sup>:</p> <p>همى زد تيره سر برآسمانها</p> <p>ستاره چشم ميزد بر سنانها</p> <p>corresponds to the first distich on fol. 483<sup>a</sup> margin in the preceding copy.</p> <p>14.A series of short mathnaw&icirc;s, containing poetical descriptions of various kinds; the <em>first</em>, on fol. 798<sup>a</sup>, is headed:اين نامه بر كسيست كه جانرا زدوستيش حلّ كرده ام بآتش و بنوشته اين مقال (supplied from No. 2073, 1192 in this Cat.), and begins:</p> <p>اين نامه كه جان درو سرشتم</p> <p>هر حرف بخون دل نبشتم</p> <p>corresponding to the first mathnaw&icirc; in the <em>third</em> d&icirc;w&acirc;n of the Bodleian Cat., No. 754, fol. 216<sup>a</sup>; the <em>second</em>, on fol. 805<sup>b</sup>, is headed: اين بيتهاى قصر كه مهر خانه كرد رغبت درو در آيد و بيرون رود چنان. Other headings on ff. 806<sup>b</sup>, 811<sup>b</sup>, 813<sup>a</sup> (bis), 813<sup>b</sup>, 814<sup>b</sup>, 815<sup>a</sup>, 815<sup>b</sup>, and 817<sup>b</sup>; the last of these mathnaw&icirc;s concludes on fol. 825<sup>a</sup>; the remaining leaves are left blank.</p> <p>This copy is dated the 2nd of Rab&icirc;&rsquo;-alawwal, A.H. 1008 (A.D. 1599, Sept. 22).
