Autism Infographic
<p>This infographic was created to visualize data on autism prevalence and the sex ratio between males and females. This infographic represents new research, and how it has changed autism data and diagnosis. Additionally, a word cloud was created to help viewers new to autism and autism data understand what the condition is.</p> <p>The data for the autism prevalence graph came from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The data for autism signs and symptomatology are my own gathered from twenty consumer health websites in October 2023. For this dashboard, I used Python (in Google Colab with Pandas and Plotly Express), Voyant, and Canva for data visualizations. Canva was also used to create the infographic itself. The title was generated by Chat GPT, then modified by the creator. GitHub was used to host the dashboard and supplementary information. SUREAL-23 Infographic
<p>A large proportion of the total number of particles emitted from direct injection engines are below 23 nm and although the EU aims to regulate those emissions and impose limits for new light duty vehicles, this is not yet possible due to the absence of accurate quantification methods, especially under real driving conditions. The main reason for this is the absence of adequate knowledge regarding the nature of sub-23 nm particles from different engine/fuel combinations under different operating conditions. SUREAL-23 project aims to overcome such barriers by introducing novel measurement technology for concentration/size/composition measurements. The recently established supercontinuum laser technology will be coupled to photoacoustic analysis and will also be employed for photoelectric ionization aerosol charging to achieve real-time, composition size-specific analysis of the particles. In parallel, state of the art aerosol measurement techniques will be advanced for better compatibility with sub-23 nm exhaust particles as well as on-board use. The developed instrumentation will assess sub-23 nm particle emissions from both Diesel and GDI vehicles accounting for effects of the fuel, lubricants, aftertreatment and driving conditions for existing and near-future vehicle configurations. The most suitable concepts will be developed for PN-PEMS applications and evaluated accordingly. The project will provide measurement technologies that will complement and extend established particle measurement protocols, sustaining the extensive investments that have already been made by industry and regulation authorities. The project will deliver systematic characterization of sub 23-nm particles to facilitate future particle emission regulations as well as to assess any potential trade-off between advances in ICE technology towards increased efficiency and emissions. The consortium consists of European and US organisations, which are leaders in the field of aerosol and particle technology.</p>

Legacies of Catalogue Descriptions and Curatorial Voice: Infographics
<p>The project '<a href="https://cataloguelegacies.github.io/">Legacies of Catalogue Descriptions and Curatorial Voice: Opportunities for Digital Scholarship</a>' (2020-22, AHRC, Project Reference AH/T013036/1) sought to develop a platform for a transformational impact in digital scholarship within cultural institutions by opening up new and important directions for computational, critical, and curatorial analysis of collection catalogues. Our pilot research investigated the temporal and spatial legacy of a landmark catalogue: the ‘Catalogue of Political and Personal Satires Preserved in the Department of Prints and Drawings in the British Museum’, entries in which form the basis of related catalogue data at institutions including the Lewis Walpole Library and the British Library.</p> <p>Towards the end of the project we invited together members of our community to discuss shared agendas and actions: where we should focus our collective resources, what things we need to work differently, and the role of computational technologies in both shaping and constraining change.</p> <p>These infographics respond to those conversations. 'Legacy catalogue entries: actions and agendas' presents priorities that emerged from a longlist of project findings. And 'Tracing the transmission of legacy catalogue entries' visualises the journey of legacy catalogue data in our case study from conception, through cataloging infrastructures, and into the future.</p> <p>Both graphics were designed by Lucy Havens, with editorial support from James Baker and Rossitza Atanassova. Representation control in interactive infographics - Wahlkarte01
<p>Information graphics often offer interactive features, allowing users to adjust the graphics to task requirements and personal interest. This study investigated the use of representation control, i.e. the users´ option to decide how information should be displayed, and its effects on the solution of an information extraction task, regarding response time and accuracy. While representation control allowed the participants of the interactive condition to restructure the information graphics and reduce information density, in the control condition no interactive features were offered. Participants with representation control options used them strategically and their responses were faster and more accurate.</p> <p>The data set consisting of four csv files is deposited here along with the corresponding code books, metadata, a R script for data preparation and an Adoby Air installer for running the experiment.</p>
The PERFECOAT Project Infographic – High Performance Bio-based Functional Coatings for Wood and Decorative Applications
<p><strong>The PERFECOAT Project</strong></p><p>The pursuit of a climate-neutral Europe and a truly circular economy requires attention to virtually all fields of production if fossil-based materials are to be eliminated. This relates not only to manufactured goods but also the paints and coatings used to protect them; of the almost 1 million tonnes of paints and coating produced in Europe each year, more than 80% are derived from fossil resources. Reducing the impact of these coatings would represent a major advance in Europe's climate ambitions.</p><p>To address this challenge, the PERFECOAT project will develop and validate a new generation of industrial wood and decorative coatings with significantly more than 25% bio-based components. The project will address three important markets for coatings, high-volume, UV-curable clear coatings, waterborne trim paints for DIY and waterborne wall paints. These coatings will reach, and even surpass, the current quality and sustainability standards.</p><p><a href="https://perfecoat-project.eu">https://perfecoat-project.eu</a></p>
Infographic : The WaterProof Project – Converting CO₂ into Formic Acid Through ElectroChemistry
<p><strong>The WaterProof Project</strong></p><p>The WaterProof project aims at developing an electrochemical process that converts CO₂ emission captured from consumer waste incineration and wastewater treatment facilities into formic acid to be used in valuable green consumer products such as cleaning detergents and the tanning of fish leather apparel. Additional products of the electrochemical process are peroxides that can be applied to remove pharmaceuticals and pesticides from wastewater. Furthermore, formic acid is used for the generation of acidic deep eutectic solvents (ADES), that can be applied to recover precious metals from wastewater sludge and incineration ashes. As the electrochemical process uses renewable energy, it contributes to a clean water cycle with zero-emission.</p><p>WaterProof enables the closing of the waste(water) carbon loop and the shift from fossil to renewable carbon sources. It hereby supports the transition towards a climate-neutral Europe and an effective and truly circular economy.</p><p><a href="https://waterproof-project.eu">https://waterproof-project.eu</a></p>
