Uses of Biblical Hebrew כִּי kī in Genesis, Judges, Samuel, and Ruth

<p>This is the data set accompanying chapter 4 of Staps (2024). It contains all occurrences of the Biblical Hebrew word כִּי <em>kī</em> in Genesis, Judges, Samuel, and Ruth.</p> <p>The file is a CSV file. The first line is a heading. Each other line describes a single use of כִּי <em>kī</em>. Fields are separated by a comma character (','). When the field value contains a comma, it is enclosed by double quotation marks ("&hellip;").</p> <p>The data is annotated with the following columns:</p> <ul> <li>Node: the number of the node for כִּי <em>kī</em> in the 2021 version of the ETCBC data set (Roorda et al. 2021). Only needed when importing the data programmatically.</li> <li>Construction: indicates the larger construction כִּי <em>kī</em> is part of, if any (e.g. כִּי אִם <em>kī ʾim</em>).</li> <li>Type: <ul> <li>adversative: 'but'.</li> <li>causal: gives the reason for a state or event. Cooking chicken at home: common or recommended approaches to judge doneness may not assure sufficient inactivation of pathogens

<p>About one third of foodborne illness outbreaks in Europe are acquired in the home and eating undercooked poultry is among consumption practices associated with illness. The aim of this study was to investigate whether actual and recommended practices for monitoring chicken doneness are safe. Seventy-five European households from five European countries were interviewed and videoed while cooking chicken in their private kitchens, including young single men, families with infants/in pregnancy and elderly over seventy years. A cross-national web-survey collected cooking practices for chicken from 3969 households. In a laboratory kitchen, chicken breast fillets were injected with cocktails of Salmonella and Campylobacter and cooked to core temperatures between 55 and 70 °C. Microbial survival in the core and surface of the meat were determined. In a parallel experiment, core colour, colour of juice and texture were recorded. Finally, a range of cooking thermometers from the consumer market were evaluated. The field study identified nine practical approaches for deciding if the chicken was properly cooked. Among these, checking the colour of the meat was commonly used and perceived as a way of mitigating risks among the consumers. Meanwhile, chicken was perceived as hedonically vulnerable to long cooking time. The quantitative survey revealed that households prevalently check cooking status from the inside colour (49.6%) and/or inside texture (39.2%) of the meat. Young men rely more often on the outside colour of the meat (34.7%) and less often on the juices (16.5%) than the elderly (&gt;65 years old; 25.8% and 24.6%, respectively). The lab study showed that colour change of chicken meat happened below 60 °C, corresponding to less than 3 log reduction of Salmonella and Campylobacter. At a core temperature of 70 oC, pathogens survived on the fillet surface not in contact with the frying pan. No correlation between meat texture and microbial inactivation was found. A minority of respondents used a food thermometer, and a challenge with cooking thermometers for home use was long response time. In conclusion, the recommendations from the authorities on monitoring doneness of chicken and current consumer practices do not ensure reduction of pathogens to safe levels. For the domestic cook, determining doneness is both a question of avoiding potential harm and achieving a pleasurable meal. It is discussed how lack of an easy "rule-of-thumb" or tools to check safe cooking at consumer level, as well as national differences in contamination levels, food culture and economy make it difficult to develop international recommendations that are both safe and easily implemented.</p>

Royal and Judge's seat of Queen Helen of Bosnia

Royal and judge's seat of Queen Helen of Bosnia, who is depicted on its side. Helen (Bosnian: Jelena/Јелена; c. 1345 – after 18 March 1399), ruled the Kingdom of Bosnia from September 1395 until late April or early May 1398. She was queen consort as the wife of King Dabiša, and was chosen by the stanak to rule after his death. Whether she was a regent who ruled during an interregnum or a queen regnant is disputed, but in any case the real power was held by magnates of the kingdom. Her rule ended with the election of King Ostoja. She remains the only female head of state in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Data were collected as part of a joint research project between GDH and the Association for the Digitization and Informatisation of Cultural Heritage (DIGI.BA) in Sarajevo, in full collaboration with the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo. Impact of an Automatic Judge in Database Learning (dataset)

<p>This is a anonymized dataset for the assesment of the impact of using an online automatic judge for free practice in a database<br>course over four academic years.</p> <ul> <li><code>raw_data</code> contains one directory for each group (CSE or CSE/M) of the DB course, which in turn contains one directory for each academic year, which finally contains two CSV files with the anonymized gradebook and the online judge submission submission logs for that academic year and group. There is no submission logs for the year 2019/20 where the online judge was not available. User identifiers have been converted to sequential numbers after random shuffling the original dataset to preserve the anonymity of students.</li> <li><code>megatable.csv</code> summarizes in a single table the data contained in the separate tables for each group. Most information for the analyses have been obtained from this table, which can be generated with an attached script. Student identifiers consist of the corresponding identifier in the original table prefixed by the academic year.</li> <li><code>src</code> contains several scripts that have been used to process the data, compute statistics on them, and generate the graph and tables included in the submitted paper. They have been included to facilitate the reproducibility of the results.</li> </ul>

Judged Roughness as a Function of Groove Frequency and Groove Width in 3D-Printed Gratings

<p>For different types of textures judged roughness has been shown to be an inverted U-shaped function of inter-element spacing when texture amplitude is low. This may be due to an interplay of two &ldquo;components&rdquo; that contribute to the skin&rsquo;s spatial deformation, and thus to a spatial-intensive code to roughness: (1) deformation increases with the depth of the finger&rsquo;s intrusion between elements, which increases with inter-element spacing until the finger contacts the ground; and (2) skin deformation decreases with a decreasing number of inter-element gaps being simultaneously under the skin, i.e. with the texture&rsquo;s spatial frequency (which is negatively correlated with inter-element spacing). The present study systematically tested these ideas. We presented participants different series of 3D-printed rectangular grating stimuli, in which the width of the grating&rsquo;s grooves varied and the spatial frequency of grooves was constant, or vice versa. Participants touched the stimuli without lateral movement and judged roughness using magnitude estimation. As predicted and previously observed, judged roughness increased with groove width and groove frequency. However, the predicted increase with groove frequency, was only found for frequencies below about 0.5&nbsp;mm<sup>&minus;1</sup>. For larger frequencies, roughness decreased with increasing frequency. The decrease is at odds with findings from earlier studies that used aluminum rather than plastic gratings. The results corroborate the assumption that the area of skin deformation plays a crucial role for roughness, but at the same time, point to the influence of subtle differences between materials that should be investigated in the future.</p>

KHOJ - Dataset about the Indian High Court judges

<p>The KHOJ (Know Your High Court Judges) dataset includes data on more than 1700 judges appointed between 1993 (after the creation of the collegium) and 2021. The dataset captures information across 43 variables including the personal, educational and professional backgrounds of India&rsquo;s High Court judges. It opens pathways for researchers who are looking to probe deeper or wider into the composition of the High Courts and those who want to undertake jurimetrics studies which explore the linkage between judicial behaviour and the background of judges.</p> <p>The core philosophy behind building such a dataset is the realization that people of the country should have more information about judges whose decisions have a real impact on such people&#39;s lives.</p> <p>This dataset is the result of a joint effort over 15 months involving more than 30 students and 10 professionals who volunteered their time and efforts in preparing this dataset. This was a collaboration between&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nluo.ac.in/research/research-centres/centre-for-public-policy-law-and-good-governance-cpplgg/">NLUO&rsquo;s Centre for Public Policy, Law and Good Governance</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://agami.in/">Agami</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://civicdatalab.in/">CivicDataLab</a>. It started with the&nbsp;<a href="https://justicehub.in/initiatives/summer-of-data-2021">Summer of Data 2021&nbsp;</a>programme where students from across the country became the original data creators using official and publicly accessible data sources.</p>
