Pulse amplitude modulated (PAM) 5-minute chlorophyll fluorescence (ChlF) with accompanying environmental variables from the GCE-LTER Keenan Field site on Sapelo Island, GA in July 2020
Pulse amplitude modulated (PAM) chlorophyll fluorescence (ChlF) from July 11, 2020 to July 27, 2020 collected over a Spartina alterniflora marsh located on the western side of Sapelo Island bounded by the Duplin River. PAM ChlF were processed in WinControl-3.25. Additional biophysical variables included are photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) from onsite quantum sensors (Licor-192), and tide height from an onsite pressure transducer (Hobo U20).
Sediment elevation measurements from the GCE LTER Seawater Addition Long-Term Experiment (SALTEx) sampling sites from July 2013 to August 2022
SALTEx (Seawater Addition Long-Term Experiment) is a field experiment designed to simulate saltwater intrusion in a tidal freshwater wetland to predict how chronic (Press) and acute (Pulse) salinization will affect this and other tidal freshwater ecosystems. The SALTEx experiment was initiated in 2012 and consists of 31 field plots, each 2.5 m on a side. There are three treatments (Press, Pulse, and Fresh) and two types of controls (with and without sides), each consisting of six replicates. The Press treatment plots receive regular (4 times each week) additions of a mixture of seawater and fresh river water. Pulse plots receive the same mixture of seawater and river water during September and October, which is historically a time of low flow in the river when natural saltwater intrusion occurs. The Fresh treatment plots receive regular additions of fresh river water. Treatment water is added during low tide to facilitate its infiltration into the soil, and all plots are inundated by astronomical tides at high tide. We are measuring soil surface elevation tables (SETs) in the plots as one of the response variables for the SALTEx project.
Marsh vegetation and soil survey at Marsh Landing, Sapelo Island GA from July 1999.
To document edaphic and vegetation patterns in a Georgia marsh, I sampled seven vegetation "zones" at Marsh Landing on Sapelo Island in July, 1999. Vegetation zones were delineated based on vegetation composition. I located 8 transects running from the Juncus zone in the high marsh down into the short S. alterniflora zone. The tall Spartina zone was not sampled. I sampled a single quadrat (0.25 m x 0.25 m) in each vegetation zone along each transect, for a total of 56 plots. I measured canopy height with a meter stick. I harvested aboveground biomass within each quadrat, sorted it to species, dried and weighed it. I measured soil water content gravimetrically by drying surface (4 cm deep) soil cores and expressing results as (water mass)/(mass of wet core). I determined porewater salinity by rehydrating dried soil cores with a known volume of deionized water, measuring the salinity of the supernatant after 48 h, and back-calculating to the volume of water originally present. I measured soil organic content as loss on ignition of dried soil cores at 450oC for 12 h. I measured relative elevation of each vegetation zone with a theodolite, with the elevation of the lowest zone arbitrarily set to zero. The resulting dataset describes how plant species composition, richness, height and biomass varies as a function of abiotic conditions in the upper part of a Georgia marsh.
Weather station data from three locations at Lake Sunapee (NH, USA), July 2019 – December 2023
Davis weather stations, owned and operated by the Lake Sunapee Protective Association (LSPA), were installed at three locations near the shoreline of Lake Sunapee (NH, USA) in July 2019. These stations collect data at 30-minute intervals for a number of weather and meteorological variables continuously throughout the year. In addition to the measured variables, a number of derived variables are also recorded at the same time intervals. Data are manually downloaded from Davis’s WeatherLink website every quarter, then collated and QAQC’d to remove any obvious outliers or recording errors in the R programming language.
Schoolyard ecology at North Temperate Lakes LTER: Dragonfly Species Presence at Stormwater Retention Ponds in July of 2014
This study aims to integrate scientific observations with community involvement, specifically with dragonfly species. The presence and absence of 17 dragonfly species was observed at Stormwater Retention ponds in the Madison area in July of 2014 and made into frequency distributions. This research will continue with community outreach in the area to further involve and educate the community on the biodiversity of their local ponds.
Ice sheet surface elevation change from ablation stake measurements on bare ice in the western Greenland ablation zone during July 2016
<p>Measurements of ice surface elevation change from a network of twelve bamboo ablation stakes installed in the western Greenland ice sheet ablation zone (67.0496o N, 49.0201o W, 1215 m a.s.l.). Stakes were installed by drilling 3 m deep holes into the ice, inserting the bamboo stakes, and allowing them to freeze into the ice for 24 hours. Following the 24 hour freeze-in period, measurements of the distance from the top of the stake to its base were recorded at nominal 3 hour intervals continuously from 12:00 local time (UTC-2) on 6 July 2016 to 23:00 local time on 12 July 2016. Prior to each measurement, a 24×24 cm square wooden ablation board was placed at the base of the stake and oriented to true north. This board operated as a datum from which the stake height above the ice surface was measured.</p>

<p>This dataset, in the form of a Frictionless Tabular Data Package (https://frictionlessdata.io/specs/tabular-data-package/), holds the measurements of 35 known metabolites(all annotated with resolvable CHEBI identifiers and InChi strings), measured by gas chromatography mass-spectrometry (GC-MS) in one Rose cultivars (all annotated with resolvable NCBITaxonomy Identifiers) and one organism part (annotated with resolvable Plant Ontology identifiers). The quantitation types are annotated with resolvable STATO terms. Mass per tiller, nitrogen concentration, stable isotope ratios for carbon and nitrogen from the 1980-82 Eriophorum vaginatum reciprocal transplant experiment along a latitudinal gradient in interior Alaska collected in July, 2011
In 1980-1982, six transplant gardens were established along a latitudinal gradient in interior Alaska from Eagle Creek, AK in the south to Prudhoe Bay, AK in the north. Three sites, Toolik Lake (TL), Sagwon (SAG), and Prudhoe Bay (PB) are north of the continental divide and the remaining three, Eagle Creek (EC), No Name Creek (NN), and Coldfoot (CF), are south of the continental divide. Each garden consisted of 10 individual Eriophorum vaginatum tussocks transplanted back to their home-site, as well as 10 individuals from each of the other transplant sites. The gardens were harvested in 2011. Important variables are garden name, source population, mass per tiller, nitrogen concentration, and stable isotope ratios for Carbon and Nitrogen.
Tree Health Conditions (mortality, damage, disease, bark beetles) in Fuel Reduction Treatments Located Near Communities in Interior Alaska and the Cook Inlet Region of Alaska - Observations from July-August 2023
This dataset contains tree-, transect-, and site-level observations of forest stands at sites that received a fuel reduction treatment. Tree-level observations include species, diameter, living status, damage, disease, and bark beetle presence. Transect-level observations include level of coarse woody debris and bark beetle presence. Sites are categorized by region (recent/ongoing spruce beetle oubreak or endemic spruce beetle population levels) and treatment type (hand-thinned or mechanincally felled and masticated). These observations are from July-August 2023. Sites are located near communities in Interior Alaska and the Cook Inlet Region.
Composited land surface temperature of the greater Phoenix, Arizona, USA metropolitan area and surrounding Sonoran desert derived from cloud-free, summer (June, July, and August) Landsat imagery: 1985-2020
This project calculates land surface temperature (LST) from remotely sensed imagery. The intent is to extend the previous version of the LST data for the CAP LTER study area in central Arizona, USA to include 2020 and update the products so that they are based on a composite of images from each year (all available cloud-free acquisitions from June, July, and August) in the analysis to reduce the potential for outlier images or pixels to impact analyses. The aim is to make updated LST data accessible to stakeholders and researchers studying the greater Phoenix, Arizona, USA metropolitan area. LST is calculated from cloud-free Landsat 5 and 8 imagery (30m resolution) from summer months (June, July, and August) in 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020. All images are cropped to the CAP LTER study area boundary.
Water Quality Data (Extensive) from the Taylor Slough, Everglades National Park (FCE LTER), Florida, USA, July 1999 - ongoing
Water quality samples are being collected using ISCO autosamplers at all wetland sites (that is, all sites except TS/Ph-9, 10, and 11). The autosamplers contain 24 1L bottles. Water is sampled by programming the autosamplers to take composite samples once every 3 days. These samples are a composite of four 250mL subsamples drawn every 18 hours (a sampling scheme that captures a dawn, noon, dusk, and midnight sample in every three day composite). The samples are collected every 3-4 weeks and analyzed for total phosphorus (TP), total nitrogen (TN), and salinity. When sites are visited to collect these samples, we also collect a grab sample that is immediately put on ice. A portion of these grab samples is filtered through a Whatman GF/F filter immediately upon return to the lab, and the filtered samples are analyzed for inorganic nutrients such as NO2-, NO3-, NH4+, SRP, and DOC. The unfiltered fraction of these grab samples is analyzed for TP, TN, and TOC. We use these monthly grab samples to generate relationships between TP and SRP, and between TN and NO2- + NO3- + NH4+. Dissolved nutrients are measured using standard rapid flow analyzer (RFA) techniques. TP is analyzed with a modified Solorzano and Sharp (1980) technique. TN is measured with an Antec TN analyzer, TOC and DOC are quantified on a Shimadzu TOC Analyzer, and salinity is measured with an YSI conductivity meter. In addition to the regular water quality monitoring, we use the rain level actuators at all freshwater sites to trigger water sampling after rain events exceed a given threshold of duration and/or intensity. As currently programmed, when the threshold of = 2.5 cm of rain per hour is passed, the autosampler at that site collects a 500mL sample 30 minutes after the threshold has been reached. Rain event samples are collected, treated, and analyzed as all other water quality samples.

Rain level data are collected using ISCO rain level gages attached to ISCO autosamplers, which also act as dataloggers. We condense these data into daily cumulative rainfall, although hourly rain level data are also available.
Quantitative and qualitative aspects of dissolved organic carbon leached from plant biomass in Taylor Slough, Shark River and Florida Bay (FCE) for samples collected in July 2004
Plant biomass was collected from Taylor Slough, Shark River and Florida Bay in Everglades National Park. Samples were taken to the lab and incubated with Milli-Q water in the dark for a period of 36 days. NaN3 was added to half the bottles to test the role of microbial activity on the leaching rates and composition of leachate. Every three days the water was decanted and replaced with fresh Milli-Q water. The decanted samples were filtered and analyzed for DOC concentration, sugar content, and total phenol content.

This file contains data from the National Data Buoy Office Coastal-Meteorological Automated Network (C-MAN) weather station near Long Key, in Florida Bay (LONF1, 24deg 50min 36sec N, 80deg 51min 42sec W). The time period is 1600 EST February 6, 2004 through 0700 EST May 28, 2004. The record is a combination of NDBO data (wind speed, air pressure, air temperature water temperature) and Harbor Branch data (relative humidity) needed to calculate evaporative water loss. The file is one of several from this location. Together, they can be used to estimate of hourly, daily, monthly, seasonal and annual evaporation rates. Calculations include hourly water loss and cumulative water loss. Times are Eastern Standard.
Macrofossil Characteristics of Soil from Shark River Slough, Everglades National Park (FCE) from July 2003 to February 2006
These data represent the results of macrofossil analyses on soil cores from Shark Slough sites, including FCE LTER sites SRS2, SRS3 and SRS4 and FCE related site NE-SRS1 from July 24,2003 to February 26, 2006. Soils from 1-cm depth increments were analyzed for macrofossil content (mainly seeds). These analyses contribute to a paleoecological study to quantify past changes in vegetation and soil accumulation in relation to past climate variation, fire occurrences and water management.
