CAP LTER weather stations at Papago Park and Lost Dutchman State Park in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area of central Arizona, USA, ongoing since 2010

The CAP LTER maintains two micrometeorological stations (10-m height) in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area, including at Lost Dutchman State Park and near the Desert Botanical Garden at Papago Park. The local terrain at both sites is flat or gently sloping Sonoran desert, and the vegetation canopy consists of patchy coverage of desert shrubs and trees. The dominant vegetation species include bursage (*Ambrosia deltoidea*) and creosote bush (*Larrea tridentata*), while minor species include palo verde (*Parkinsonia microphylla*) and saguaro cactus (*Carnegiea gigantea*). Wind speed and direction, incoming solar radiation, air temperature, relative humidity, and precipitation have been monitored nearly continuously since the fall of 2010. Each variable is measured every 5 seconds and the average (or total for precipitation and total solar radiation) saved to a data logger every 10 minutes.

Hourly weather data from the LTER Moist Acidic Tussock Experimental plots. The station was installed in 1990 in block 2 of the Toolik LTER experimental moist acidic tussock plots. The plots are located on a hillside near Toolik Lake (68 38' N, 149 36'W). Global solar radiation, photosynthetic active radiation, unfrozen precipitation, air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and wind direction are measured at 3 meters. Additional sensors in greenhouses and shade houses plots measure air temperature, relative humidity and photosynthetic active radiation during the growing season. The sensors are read every minute and averaged or totaled every hour.

Precipitation data from a standard can rain gauge at the LTER weather station, Jornada Basin, southern New Mexico, USA, 1992-ongoing

This data package contains precipitation measurements collected from a "dipstick" rain gauge (NOAA standard can type) at the LTER Weather Station in the Jornada Basin, southern New Mexico, USA. The primary purpose of this data set is to validate the LTER Weather Station tipping bucket rain gauge data. The dipstick rain gauge (DSRG) data is measured at least weekly during scheduled maintenance trips to the LTER Weather Station to maintain the evaporation pan water levels. During the summer months this may be twice a week. Additionally, DSRG data is collected after any rain event that requires the collection of the Wetfall/Dryfall precipitation buckets which are located about 10 meters from the DSRG. This is usually any amount greater than 0.02 inches. DSRG data is also collected after very small events when personnel are in the vicinity. Rain gauge records at this gauge began in 1992 and the study is ongoing.

Jornada Basin LTER Weather Station Daily summary climate data

Daily summary values of averages of readings of the following parameters are made which are based on data recorded on a Campbell CR10, CR10X, then CR1000 data logger: maximum, minimum, and average air temperature; maximum and minimum relative humidity; total precipitation; average wind speed; maximum wind speed; average wind direction; total incoming solar radiation; average soil temperature at 5cm and 20cm; mean dew temperature. From 1983 - 5 June 1991, readings on which daily averages are based were made at 12 second intervals. From 6 June 1991 to present, readings on which daily averages are based are made at 10 second intervals.

Evaporation pan data from the Jornada Basin LTER weather station, 1983-ongoing

This package contains data from an evaporation pan at the Jornada Basin LTER weather station in southern New Mexico, USA. Surface evaporation is measured weekly to twice weekly using an evaporation pan compatible with standard National Weather Service evaporation measurements. Measurements are made twice per week during hot periods because of the high evaporation rate. The following data is collected: number of days between measurements, beginning and ending measurement period, current, minimum, and maximum water temperature; initial water level; final water level; rainfall since last evaporation measurement, and calculated evaporation (inches). Data collection is ongoing.
