Kumrahār (Paṭnā), Bihār. Mahābodhi plaque. Bihār Museum (Paṭnā Museum no. 4419).

Kumrahār (Paṭnā), Bihār. Photo of the so-called Mahābodhi plaque found at Kumrahār, a suburb of Paṭnā. The plaque is now in the Bihār Museum but was previously stored in the Paṭnā Museum (no. 4419). It was unearthed by Dr. D.B. Spooner during excavations at Kumrahār in 1914. The round terracotta plaque depicts a tower temple in a compound, supposedly the Mahābodhi temple at Bodhgayā. A seated Buddha image can be seen inside the arched chamber of the structure, while two standing haloed figures (possibly bodhisattvas) are depicted on both sides of the temple. A kharoṣṭhī inscription is engraved at the bottom of the plaque: ko[thumasa] saṁghada[sa]sa kiti, "the work of Saṁghadāsa, the Kauthuma." (Konow 1926)

Spooner, D.B. (1915).
