Overnight Shark River Surveys from Shark River Slough, Everglades National Park (FCE), South Florida from October 2001 to March 2002
Estuarine mixing interfaces have been a focus of wetland ecologists for the last three decades and are of growing concern today. Particularly critical in Everglades restoration, water quality and the dynamics of nutrients and dissolved materials across seasons in the natural system are being defined. We measured diurnal and seasonal (wet and dry) variation in microbial, dissolved and total nutrients and total organic carbon along a riverine transect and for a diurnal cycle in October of 2001 and March of 2002. For the diurnal sampling we anchored a houseboat mid Shark River 100m up river of the mesohaline Florida Coastal Everglades Shark River LTER site and sampled the water for chemical, microbial, and physical parameters. At slack high and low tides we sampled 10 miles offshore then at three sites up the Shark River. TOC (mM) and salinity (ppt) were highly correlated (r2 .97) along the river transect across seasons and TOC derived from terrestrial input. Bacterial production ranged from 1.88 to 10.99 mg C l-1 d-1 and was greatest in the dry season and at the most freshwater sampling points. Combined examination of our 49 sampled parameters both from the diurnal sampling and river transect sampling showed that our position for sampling in the river was critical and that the mid river-estuarine productivity maxima occurred within Shark River in both the wet and dry season. These data suggest this oligotrophic estuarine-river system is highly sensitive to watershed and river fringe nutrient inputs and remineralization vectors within the river.
Soil Characteristic and Nutrient Data from the Taylor Slough, within Everglades National Park (FCE), from March 2002 to April 2004
Three random soil cores are collected once a year from TS/Ph 1b, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6b. The collection of these soil cores is in the dry season (Dec.-May). The top 10cm of soil is collected using a soil core. The soil is then analyzed to obtain its bulk density, organic matter content, TC, TN, and TP.

Algae, and Seagrass Coverage Relative to Presence of Sargassum in a Seagrass Meadow within Crandon Park, Florida, USA, March 2024 – March 2025
This package contains data on percent coverage of sargassum, seagrass, and algae recorded along 3 transects extending from the shoreline of Crandon Park, Florida from 2024-03-07 to 2025-03-26 as part of the Coastal Ecosystem-Research Experience for Teachers (CE-BIORETS) program. The data also include epiphyte-cover scores and water visibility, temperature, and salinity values. We placed a m^2 quadrat on the seafloor at 5-meter intervals along three 50-meter transects extending from the shoreline. We then recorded percent coverage of seagrass, algae, and sargassum taxa (to genus or species) and the epiphyte load within the quadrat. We also recorded water visibility, temperature, and salinity at the water surface along the transect. We collected these data to investigate the impact sargassum has on native seagrass meadows. Data collection for this project is complete

<p>This dataset was generated to aid the creation of a review article addressing the use of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOF)-based Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) platforms for the detection of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).</p> <p>This dataset was generated employing the Web of Science database, encompassing manuscripts published up to March 2023. A literature search was initially conducted using a combination of keywords, including "MOF," "Metal-Organic Framework," "SERS," "Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy," and "Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering." This search spanned the "Topic" category, enabling exploration across title, abstract, author keywords, and keyword-plus fields.</p> <p>From the initial pool of 238 documents, review articles and duplicates were systematically excluded, resulting in a refined collection of 182 articles. Subsequently, articles not concurrently addressing MOF and SERS or those utilizing MOF as sacrificial templates were further excluded, resulting in a final subset of 72 articles. From this curated set, relevant parameters were extracted, resulting in 229 entries for the dataset. </p> <p>Characteristics about the structure (in terms of MOF type and configuration; Plasmonic element type and configuration), target analyte (including type, phase, and incubation time), measurement specifications (in terms of laser, laser power, exposure time), and performance of the MOF-based SERS substrates were collected.</p> <p>Listed references 1-72 correspond with the manuscript number in the dataset.</p> <p>Listed references 73-80 correspond with references for selected examples of MOF pore diameters.</p>
Mangrove Coast Collaborative Project, Post-hurricane Irma mangrove forest structure data, Rookery Bay NERR, February 2022 - March 2023
The dataset describes the structure, composition, and condition of mangrove forests in Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) assessed Feb 2022 - Mar 2023, approximately 5 years post Hurricane Irma (2017) and concurrent with Hurricane Ian (Sep 2022). The dataset includes information on each stem greater than or equal to 1 cm DBH (diameter at breast height) rooted within 69 100 m2 circular plots. Information collected includes site ID, location, species, DBH, status (live or dead), damage associated with the hurricane, presence/absence of regrowth, presence/absence of adventitious roots, whether or not stem is part of a multi-stemmed individual, and the canopy conditions (whether the tree has a canopy or is only sprouting at the base of the tree or trunk). This dataset is associated with the Mangrove Coast Collaborative project (2020 - 2024).

Urban habitat features and patterns of snake removals in the greater Phoenix, Arizona (USA) metropolitan area (March 2021 - March 2022)
In urban and suburban areas, wildlife and people are often in close quarters, leading to human-wildlife interactions (HWI). Understanding how wildlife interact with humans and the built environment is critical as urbanization contributes to habitat change and fragmentation globally. In our study, we partnered with a local business that removes and relocates snakes from homes and businesses in the Phoenix area. The most frequently removed were venomous (family Viperidae, e.g., rattlesnakes) and nonvenomous (family Colubridae, e.g., gophersnakes) snakes. Using these records, we investigated taxa-specific habitat trends at two spatial scales. The neighborhood scale focused on front yard measures of cover and vegetation classes and the landscape scale focused on variables related to vegetation indices and degree of urbanization. Both analyses compared areas where snakes were removed to random locations in the city to represent possible habitat available to snakes. At the neighborhood scale (n=60), we found that removals occurred in yards with abundant cover opportunities. At the landscape scale (n=764), we found species-specific differences with nonvenomous snakes removed from areas of higher urbanization compared to venomous snakes. Understanding these distinct habitat patterns in residential yards can identify areas with potential human-snake conflict.
IPMWORKS Resource Toolbox - database extraction March 2024
<p><span>The IPMWORKS IPM Resource Toolbox (Toolbox) has been developed as an interactive, online repository of integrated pest management (IPM) resources. Populated with high priority resources for farmers and their advisors during the project, its structure enables additional resources added over time. The repository is a public interactive website, available to anyone looking to access, understand, and implement IPM. Built on an open-source content management system, the toolbox is designed to require minimal post-production site maintenance and support, while being easily expanded to integrate resources from future initiatives.<br>At the core of the Toolbox lies MongoDB, a powerful NoSQL database management system. The schema-less nature of MongoDB allows for flexible data modeling, crucial for accommodating the diverse array of materials within the IPMWORKS ecosystem. Additionally, the integration of GridFS, a feature of MongoDB, facilitates the storage and retrieval of large files like images, PDFs, and documents. This architectural choice ensures optimal performance and efficiency in handling a wide range of materials. <br>We here make available all content uploaded to the IPMWORKS Resource Toolbox up to 18 March 2024. Materials are available in two formats, first as MongoDB files which require users to open them as a Mongo database file, and second as JSON files. Note that the JSON format does not include access to any pdfs attached to Toolbox content, only the associated metadata. </span></p> <p> </p>
National Survey on the Effects of COVID-19 on the Wellbeing of Mexican Households (ENCOVID-19 - MARCH 2021)
<p>Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, the ENCOVID-19 provides information on the well-being of Mexican households in four main domains: labor, income, mental health, and food insecurity. It offers timely information to understand the social consequences of the pandemic and the lockdown measures. It is a project consisting of a series of cross-sectional telephone surveys collected in key moments of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the four main domains and a set of COVID19-related questions, the survey includes new key indicators every month to capture the impact of the pandemic on issues like education, social programs, and crime. This is the sixth dataset of the project, corresponding to March 2021, collected one year after the lockdown began in Mexico. Data collection was performed from February 26 to March 27, 2021.</p>
Environmental and biological data associated with captive-reared Delta Smelt Study, Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, CA, January-March 2019
The endangered Delta Smelt Hypomesus transpacificus is an osmerid fish endemic to the upper San Francisco Estuary. A captive breeding program for the species led by the Fish Culture and Conservation Laboratory (FCCL), University of California, Davis, began in 1996 to create a refuge population. In order to better understand how captive Delta Smelt would fare in conditions outside of the hatchery, we placed captive-reared fish in enclosures in the Sacramento San-Joaquin Delta, and evaluated their ability to survive, feed, and maintain condition. Fish were acclimated in the hatchery at FCCL, tagged, swabbed, weighed, measured, and transferred to enclosures in the field. There were three types of enclosures (n=2 for each type), varying in mesh size and wrap condition. In January 2019, 384 adult Delta Smelt (243 days post hatch) were transferred to enclosures in Rio Vista. In February 2019, 360 adult Delta Smelt (278 days post hatch) were transferred to enclosures in the Deepwater Shipping Channel. For each deployment, fish remained in enclosures for approximately one month, then were retrieved from enclosures, euthanized, identified, weighed and measured. A subset were also analyzed for diet contents. During the one-month long deployments, cages were checked for biofouling, damage, and dead fish, and water quality measurements and zooplankton samples were collected.

Sawgrass Above and Below Ground Total Phosphorus from the Taylor Slough, Everglades National Park (FCE LTER), Florida, USA, March 2002 - ongoing
Once a year during the dry season (Dec-May) three live sawgrass plants are collected from each site. These plants are divided into their live above and live below ground parts. Then both the above and below ground parts are analyzed for TN, TC, and TP.
