The volunteer provided informed consent and the study was approved by the IRB of Heidelberg University Hospital (Fritz et al., 2014).<br>The MRI data were acquired using a 1.5 T MR tomography system and consist of a static whole heart image stack taken during diastasis as well as time-resolved images in several long and short axis slices.&nbsp;Based on the segmentation, we first labeled the atria and the ventricles.&nbsp;The geometry was extended by a representation of the mitral valve, the tricuspid valve, the aortic valve and the pulmonary valve.&nbsp;Additionally, we closed the endo- and epicardial surfaces of the atria and added truncated pulmonary veins, vena cavae as well as the ascending aorta and pulmonary artery.&nbsp;Furthermore, we added a concentric layer of tissue around the entire heart which phenomenologically represents the influence of the pericardium and the surrounding tissue.</p> <p>Two tetrahedral meshes were created using Gmsh (Geuzaine et al., 2009): (1) the mechanical reference domain (<strong>M.vtu</strong>) with 128,976 elements (on average 3.17 mm edge length) and (2) the electrophysiological reference domain (<strong>EP.vtu</strong>) as a subset of M with 50,058,295 elements (on average 0.4 mm edge length).<br>We used rule-based methods to assign the myofiber orientation on EP: Wachter et al. (2015) was used for the atria and Bayer et al. (2012) for the ventricles.&nbsp;The fiber angle in the ventricles was chosen as +60&deg; and -60&deg; on the endocardial and epicardial surface, respectively.&nbsp;The sheet angle was set to -65&deg; on the endocardium and 25&deg; on the epicardium. Soil Organic Matter Mechanisms of Stabilization (SOMMOS) - enhanced soil characterization data from 40 National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) sites

Soil organic matter (SOM) is a critical linkage among many ecosystem services that sustain our society and life on Earth. It is the primary energy source for microbes and the principal storehouse of water necessary for plant growth. SOM also stores nutrients for plants and sorbs pollutants that otherwise could contaminate food and water supplies. Soils also help regulate climate by storing carbon that would otherwise be released to the atmosphere and contribute to climate change. The SOMMOS project investigated processes in the soil that protect SOM from being decomposed by microbes, processes that increase its sensitivity to environmental changes, and how changes in climate and land management influence the amount and stability of SOM. The project, which was a collaboration between scientists from the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON), University of Colorado, University of Michigan, Oregon State University, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and the USDA-Forest Service, took advantage of soil samples collected across NEON, a major NSF investment in environmental monitoring that covers the entire United States. This continental-scale soil sample set was analyzed for a wide array of physical and chemical properties, well beyond those typically measured on such a large-scale sample set, including radiocarbon, extractable metals, organic matter chemistry by pyrolysis-GCMS, liquid extract fluorescence spectroscopy, and more. In addition to this dataset, archived samples are available from the project for sharing with interested researchers.

Global eutrophication and antibiotic resistance genes dataset for "Coupling mechanisms between cyanobacteria and antibiotic resistance genes in freshwater ecosystems"

This dataset compiles global records of cyanobacteria, antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), and associated water quality parameters to support research on freshwater ecosystem dynamics. It includes 990 metagenomes, 16,648 chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) records, and over 90 documented cases of ARGs–cyanobacteria co-occurrence under comparable spatiotemporal conditions. The dataset covers the years 2000–2024 and provides both raw measurements and harmonized tables for cross-study comparisons. Data were extracted from previously published literature and public repositories, with references to source publications included. This archive is intended to facilitate reproducible analyses, enable large-scale meta-studies, and support further exploration of microbial interactions in freshwater systems.

Incentive mechanisms and the provision of public goods: Field experiment data for testing alternative economic frameworks to supply ecosystem restoration on Virginia's Eastern Shore: 2008 data.

This dataset consists of participant responses in one of two economic experiments conducted on Virginia's Eastern Shore during 2008 and 2009 by Elizabeth C. Smith used to gauge resident preferences and willingness-to-pay for ecosystem restoration activities. This dataset was designed to be used to examine a practical method to implement an individualized pricing approach to public good provision, grounded in Lindahl's marginal benefit theory. The study's focus was on ecosystem valuation and market approaches that have potential to provide public goods, examining the potential to generate revenues for public goods from consumers. While willingness-to-pay measurement techniques have been used to assess preferences for many environmental goods, this research goes a step further to explore real money auctions that generate revenues sufficient to pay for restoration activities. The data from the field experiments conducted in coastal Virginia were used, along with laboratory experiment data, to evaluate the performance of auction mechanisms in generating revenues relative to potential (Hicksian) willingness to pay for marginal increments in public goods. The field execution of this experiment involved residents of Virginia's Eastern Shore and local public goods. This application involved half-acre increments of ecosystem restoration for sea grass habitat in coastal lagoons, plantings for migratory bird habitat, and, in some auctions, clam-based increments of water quality services, defined as delaying the harvest of clams for six months beyond normal harvest by an existing aquaculture firm. To perform these tasks, participants were provided a budget, between $90 and $150. The auctioneer described for participants the ecosystem services that may result from additional ecosystem restoration associated with each activity. Dataset for "An Alternative Chlorine-Assisted Optimization of CdS/Sb2Se3 Solar Cells: Towards Understanding of Chlorine Incorporation Mechanism"

<p>The current strategies in the development of Sb2Se3 thin film solar cells involve fabrication and optimization of<br>superstrate and substrate device architectures, with the preferable choice for TiO2 and CdS heterojunction layers.<br>For CdS-based superstrate cells, several studies reported the necessity to apply CdCl2 or other metal halide-based<br>post-deposition treatment (PDT), highlighting improvement of CdS/Sb2Se3 device efficiency. However, the need,<br>effect, and mechanism of such PDT are very often not described. Additionally, the fact that many groups have not<br>succeeded in demonstrating its benefits suggests that this strategy is not straightforward, requiring a deeper<br>understanding towards a more unified concept. The present study proposes an alternative approach to the<br>challenging CdCl2 PDT of CdS in CdS/Sb2Se3 device, involving controllable Cl incorporation in CdS films by<br>systematically varying the concentration of NH4Cl in the CBD precursor solution from 1 to 8 mM. Structural and<br>electrical characterizations are correlated with advanced measurements of Scanning Kelvin Probe, surface<br>photovoltage, and atomic force microscopy to understand the impact of Cl incorporation on the properties of CdS<br>films and CdS/Sb2Se3 devices. The validity of Cl incorporation in the CdS lattice and interdiffusion processes at<br>the CdS-Sb2Se3 interface is confirmed by secondary ion mass spectrometry analysis. It is demonstrated that<br>incorporation of 1 mM of NH4Cl, as a Cl source in CBD CdS, can boost the PCE of CdS/Sb2Se3 by ~20 %. With this<br>approach, we offer new perspectives on the optimization methodology for Cl-based CdS/Sb2Se3 device processing<br>and complementary understanding of the physiochemistry behind these processes.</p>

Influence of Atmospheric Air Plasma Pre-Treatment of Veneers on the Mechanical Properties and Stability of Beech Plywood

<p>Wood-based sheet materials such as plywood, fiberboard, particleboard, and oriented strain board find applications in civil engineering, building technology, furniture manufacturing and many more. All these materials rely strongly on an effective bond formation between the resin and the wood base material, which gives rise to their mechanical performance and stability, as well as their resistance to moisture and liquids. In our study, we present the use of a commercial atmospheric air plasma system, which we used for the pretreatment of veneers of common beech (<em>Fagus sylvatica</em> L.) wood before formation of plywood boards. Plasma treatment parameters were optimized following the change in water contact angle. Two different stacking patterns were used for plasma-treated veneers. The time stability of the plasma modification was investigated by forming a second set of plywood boards 70 hours after plasma treatment of the respective veneers. The influence of the plasma treatment on mechanical properties was studied via bending and shear strength of the four sets of plasma-treated boards in comparison to a plywood out of the same veneer without plasma treatment. Water and moisture resistance were tested through water immersion and surface water resistance tests. Further, confocal laser scanning microscopy was used to determine changes of the surfaces&rsquo; morphologies.</p>

Aquamarine: Quantum-Mechanical Exploration of Conformers and Solvent Effects in Large Drug-like Molecules

<p>Open challenges in computational drug design include the understanding and accurate description of solvent effects as well as collective dispersion interactions for realistic drug-like molecules. Both interactions profoundly influence the conformational stability of drug molecules and, consequently, the determination of other important quantum-mechanical (QM) observables. In this context, we here introduce the Aquamarine (AQM) dataset -- an extensive QM dataset that contains the structural and electronic information -- of 59,786 low-and high-energy conformers of 1,653 molecules containing up to 54 non-hydrogen atoms (including &nbsp;C, N, O, F, P, S and Cl). To gain insights into the solvent effects, we have carried out QM calculations of structures and properties in gas phase and in an aqueous solution modeled with implicit solvent. AQM contains over 40 global (molecular) and local (atom-in-a-molecule) physicochemical properties (including ground-state and response properties) per molecular structure computed at the tightly converged PBE0+MBD level of theory for gas-phase molecules, whereas PBE0+MBD supplemented with the modified Poisson-Boltzmann (MPB) model of water was used for solvated molecules. By treating both molecule-solvent and dispersion interactions, the AQM dataset can help understand the impact of both interactions in structure-property and property-property relationships of realistic drug-like molecules. Therefore, we propose the AQM dataset as a &nbsp;benchmark for current state-of-the-art machine learning methods for property prediction as well as for the <em>de novo</em> generation of large and flexible (solvated) molecules with pharmaceutical and biological relevance.</p>

Swiss public's acceptance and sustainability perceptions of food produced with chemical, digital and mechanical weed control measures and the influence of information source on technology perception in agriculture

<p><span>This data was obtained from an online survey conducted with the Swiss public from the two biggest language regions (German and French) in Switzerland. The survey was conducted in February 2023. Participants were recruited through a professional panel provider and quotas were used for age, gender and language region. The final sample contained&nbsp;</span><span>542 respondents. </span><span>In the first part of the survey, respondents provided basic sociodemographic information. In the second part, their sustainability perceptions regarding four different weed management practices (full-surface spraying, hoeing machine, spot spraying and precise spraying) were investigated. Respondents were then assigned to one of five information source groups, in which information on a hoeing and a milking robot was presented, using 5 different information sources (male/female farmer, male/female scientist, no source). Technology perception was assessed using several questions and aspects. Finally, respondents answered several questions assessing their attitudes towards the perception of farmers, food technology neophobia, chemophobia and the importance of naturalness. The survey can be used and adapted to different contents, aiming to investigate public perception of smart farming technologies and the influence of information sources on technology perception. </span></p>
