A geographical dataset of the Gor River megalithic landscape

This is the dataset that have served as the basis for the study of the spatial patterns of the megaliths of the Gor River Valley (Granada, Spain) as part of a PhD dissertation presented in July 2023 at the University of Granada and carried out by the author Carolina Cabrero. This complex, of which 151 dolmens are currently preserved, is one of the largest in Europe, standing out fundamentally because of its density. This feature undoubtedly points out the importance of symbolic territorial control searched by Late Prehistoric communities that built these graves. The geographical databases here presented are two: on the one hand, the database made up of up to 70 quantitative and qualitative variables that has been used to carry out the bulk of the doctoral study on the 151 referred dolmens and, on the other hand, the database made up of a total of 230 points identified through the review of DTMs based on LiDAR data and which could correspond totally or partially to burial mounds that have practically disappeared or are poorly preserved on the surface.

Allée couverte du Bois-Couturier Megalithic Tomb
Allée couverte du Bois-Couturier, a megalithic tomb located in Guiry-en-Vexin, France was discovered in 1915 by an agricultural worker. This ancient tomb is buried in the hillside overlooking the Aubette valley at an altitude of 132 meters. Facing south/ southeast, the burial chamber measures 7 meters long and 2 meters wide. The antechamber is short and wide measuring 1 meter by 1.85 meters. The walls, constructed of horizontal layers of limestone plates, measure 1.30 meters high. The arrangement of the limestone slabs of the roof have been disturbed, and their current position is a result of restoration. Megalithic Rocks Las Piedrotas, Tapalpa, Mexico
Located in the southern area of Jalisco, Mexico, the magical town of Tapalpa is a must-see destination for those who like the forest, the mountains and adventure. As its name implies, this place is formed by a set of rocky formations of an unusual size whose origin is unknown, hence also known as the Valley of Enigmas. When you arrive you will feel tiny at your side, but we recommend trying to climb so you can admire the scenery from above. This part of rock formation is about 60 meters wide and 25 meters tall.
