Moana Ocean Hindcast

The Moana Ocean Hindcast model is a 25+ years 3D hydrodynamic hindcast for New Zealand waters. While this repository contains sample files, the full dataset can be downloaded from the project webpage at https://www.moanaproject.org/
Model results are available as hourly and daily average values for temperature, salinity, velocity (u, v, w), and sea surface elevation.

A full description of the simulation is provided by Souza et al. (in preparation for submission to Geoscientific Model Development).

Moana Ocean Future Climate (Sample Daily Fields)

The Moana Ocean Future Climate downscaling is a set of dynamical downscalings for New Zealand waters combining boundary and surface forcing from the New Zealand Earth System Model with the Moana Ocean Hindcast ROMS configuration. MOFC has been run for a 20 year reference period (1990-2010) and three future climate experiments (SSP3-70 2030-2060, SSP3-70 2070-2099 and SSP2-45 2070-2099). While this repository contains sample files, the full dataset can be downloaded from the project webpage at https://www.moanaproject.org/

Model results are available as hourly and daily average values for temperature, salinity, velocity (u, v, w), and sea surface elevation.

Full descriptions of these datasets are provided in Roach et al. (submitted to GMD).

Marine heatwave prediction using machine learning - Moana Project

This datasets includes results of the PCA analysis used in the repository https://github.com/metocean/marineheatwave_ml_moana

Hau Moana

Hau Moana

Moana Project atmospheric hindcast (1970-2022) for New Zealand, produced using the WRF model with ERA5 boundary conditions.

The soil temperatures over the ocean are produced by the RUC LSM allowing the correct interpolation about the coast.

The full dataset is available at: http://131.203.52.77:6443/thredds/catalog/moana_wrf_hindcast/catalog.html
