Mobile broadband speedtest traces

The goal of this research is to collect a wide range speedtest traces for the mobile broadband (MBB) networks, as seen from actual users while moving around the city using public or private vehicles. For collecting this dataset we ask students to participate and run Mobile BroadBand speedtest. You can find the instruction of our test here. Traces were mostly collected in the city of Torino in Italy, and refer to three technologies (WiFi, 3G, and 4G), and multiple Mobile Network Operators (MNO). The networks were in normal operating conditions (and unaware of our tests). Our terminals (both Android and iOS smartphones) accessed the mobile networks to upload data to a server on campus, using both TCP and UDP at the transport layer.

We used a hybrid method in the trace collection process: we run repetitive active measurements from mobile terminals using iperf2, and we collect passive traces on server side using tcpdump. In each experiment, the mobile terminal runs iperf2 in the upload direction for 600 seconds while tcpdump captures packets at the server.
We collected traces for different MNOs in Italy (Tim, Wind, and Vodafone). For WiFi, we considered the open WiFi community WoW-Fi offered automatically by Fastweb customers that share their DLS or FTTH home network via the access gateway. Mobile phones automatically authenticate using IEEE 802.1x with no action from the user. Traces shorter than 300 seconds are iperf2 experiments run from the stationary MONROE nodes or failed experiments.

Measurement Data: Latencies and Traffic Traces in Global Mobile Roaming with Regional Breakouts

A Shortcut through the IPX: Measuring Latencies in Global Mobile Roaming with Regional Breakouts

This repository contains a description and sample data for the Paper A Shortcut through the IPX: Measuring Latencies in Global Mobile Roaming with Regional Breakouts published at the Network Traffic Measurement and Analysis (TMA) Conference 2024.
In the provided README.md file, we present example snippets of the datasets, including an explanation of all contained fields.

We cover the three main datasets covered in the related paper:
- DT1: User plane traces captured at multiple GGSN/PGW instances of a globaly operating MVNO
- DT2: GTP echo round trip times between visited network SGSN/SGWs and home network GGSN/PGWs
- DT3: IPX routing information, as extracted from BGP routing tables

For legal reasons, we are not able to publish the secondary datasets (DT4, DT5) covered in the manuscript.

Finally, for privacy, security, and political reasons, certain fields in each of the datasets have been anonymized. These are indicated by the `_anonymized` prefix.
In case of IP addresses, the anonymization ist consistent across datasets, meaning that similar IPs have been anonymized such that their values are still identical after anonymization.

Contact

For questions regarding the dataset, contact Viktoria Vomhoff (viktoria.vomhoff@uni-wuerzburg.de)

First responders' mobile phone traces during a search-and-rescue exercise scenario

This dataset is collected during a search-and-rescue exercise scenario in the framework of the ARTION project.

The operation took place on the 22nd of May 2022 in Paphos district (near the beach at Mandria village). The exercise was organized and conducted by the Cyprus Civil Defence and data collection was performed by the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence of the University of Cyprus.

The data is saved in an .xlsx file. It consists of 9 first responders' traces captured during a search-and-rescue operation. The responders were moving on foot holding their mobile phones, which were used for capturing their traces. By means of the ARTION mobile app, the locations of the mobile phones were captured by the build-in GPS receiver of the phone approximately every 5 seconds.

First responders' mobile phone traces during a search-and-rescue exercise scenario

This dataset is collected during a search-and-rescue exercise scenario in the framework of the ARTION project.

The operation took place on the 11th of April 2021 in an abandoned village (Vretsia) in Paphos district, in Cyprus.
The exercise scenario was the following: After a tornado, seven campers who were in the village at the time of the tornado
are reported as missing. Some of them are injured. The operations included: establishment and operation of an emergency
operation center, first aid station, and drone operation center.

For the search-and-rescue operations two rescue teams, a first responder with a rescue dog and a drone were deployed.
1. The rescue dog detects a person. A lightly injured woman is searched and found. The medic team rushes to help
and finally accompanies the person to the operation center/first aid station.
2. A victim is identified by the drone and rescued by the Medic Team.
3. The Rescue Team #1 founds an unconscious male and the Medic Team rushes to the rescue.
4. The Rescue Team #2 founds an injured female person and the Medic Team rushes to the rescue.
5. Another person is identified by the drone and rescued by the Medic Team.
6. The Rescue Team #1 founds a lightly injured female person and accompanies her to the first aid station.
7. The Rescue Team #2 founds a lightly injured female person and accompanies her to the first aid station.

The exercise was organized and conducted by the Cyprus Civil Defence and data collection was performed by the
KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence of the University of Cyprus.

The dataset consists of .csv files, each containing a trace, that is, the locations of the mobile phones captured by the built-in
GPS receiver of the phone approximately every one second. The mobile phones were held by first responders during their operation.
