Water quality data for Narragansett Bay, RI (USA) from 2014 to 2018
<p>This dataset includes results of a monthly monitoring program conducted in Narragansett Bay, RI (USA) between 2014 and 2018. Eight stations were sampled at three depths (surface, middle, and bottom); at each station, water clarity was noted (Secchi depth). and dissolved oxygen, salinity, and pH were measured. Discrete water samples were analyzed in the laboratory for chlorophyll-a, dissolved inorganic nutrients (nitrate, nitrite, ammonium, and orthophosphate), dissolved organic carbon, stable isotopes of particulate carbon and nitrogen, and total suspended solids. These water quality data are being made available to use, in conjunction with pre-existing datasets collected by others, to better understand the ecological dynamics of the Narragansett Bay ecosystem.</p> <p>A description of the sample collection methods and data analyses are included as a companion file to the dataset.</p> <p> </p>

<p>Count and polymer characterization data for microplastics extracted from shoreline and estuarine sediments around Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island, USA. Microplastics (63µm - 5 mm) were extracted from sediment using a dense solution of sodium iodide (NaI) followed by enumeration via microscopy and polymer characterization via Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)(Shimadzu IRTracer-100). Concentrations are reported in # MP particles per kg dry weight (DW) sediment. </p>

<p>This dataset includes results of a monthly monitoring program conducted in Narragansett Bay, RI (USA)<br>between January 2014 and December 2022. Eight stations were sampled at three depths (surface, mid-depth,<br>and bottom) using a combination of sondes, secchi disk, and discrete water collections. Water<br>samples were processed in laboratory immediately after collection to be either filtered, preserved, or<br>stored and then later analyzed for chlorophyll-a, dissolved inorganic nutrients (nitrate+nitrite, nitrite,<br>ammonium, and orthophosphate), dissolved organic carbon, stable isotopes of particulate carbon and<br>nitrogen, and total suspended solids. These water quality data are being made available to use, in<br>conjunction with pre-existing datasets collected by others, to better understand the ecological dynamics<br>of the Narragansett Bay ecosystem.</p>
