PubChem OECD PFAS Larger PFAS Parts file for MetFrag

This is a MetFrag database file constructed from the "Molecule contains PFAS parts larger than CF2/CF3" subnode of the OECD PFAS Definition node in the PFAS and Fluorinated Organic Compounds in PubChem Tree on the Classification Browser in PubChem.

This file was constructed by downloading the node contents, selecting the columns of interest, changing the headers to MetFrag-compatible headers. Entries containing Xe, Pr, Po, Ru and W were removed; charges were also removed from formulas to avoid issues with MetFragCL.

The construction of the tree is documented here.

Note: PubChem authors have been removed from this version to comply with a presidential decree. This version was prepared exclusively by the remaining author.

Structural breaks in greenhouse gas emissions for OECD countries in 1995-2022 and 37 sectors

The quantitative assessment of policy instruments aimed at climate change mitigation requires the rigorous identification of abnormal changes in greenhouse gas emissions. We present a new dataset of robust level changes in greenhouse gas emissions that cannot be explained by aggregate socioeconomic fluctuations. Modern methods of structural break identification based on two-way fixed effects models are employed to estimate the size of significant level changes in emissions. The resulting dataset spans information for all OECD countries and all 37 IPCC sectors, ranging from 1995 to 2022. The data unveils large differences in abnormal changes in emissions across gases, countries and sectors, as well as over time. Our resulting data can be applied to a broad range of research questions, including the analysis of the comparative efficacy of policy instruments to mitigate climate change.

Dataset for paper submission: "Revisiting the Long-Run Relationship Between Inward/Outward FDI and Income Inequality: New Evidence from the OECD"

The relatively small panel cointegration literature on the dynamics between FDI and income inequality predominantly finds that FDI will reduce income inequality in the long-run in developed countries. However, we point out an important technical oversight in the literature. Not accounting for cross-section dependence in panel data methodologies may yield unreliable results. Expanding on the work of @herzer/nunnenkamp:13, who pioneered the use of panel cointegration in the European context, we obtain different results when we account for cross-section dependence and employ economic procedures robust to it. Using a panel containing 16 OECD countries (1979-2017), 2 income inequality measures, and 4 FDI measures, we begin by showing strong evidence for the existence of cross-section dependence. Then, using second-generation econometric procedures, we do not find any evidence for a cointegrating relationship between inward FDI and income inequality. We do find evidence that outward FDI is cointegrated with income inequality; however, contrary to the main results of the literature, we find that it widens the income gap in the long-run. Additionally, our results support the view that fiscal policy is an important tool to reduce income inequality.

Data from: Drowning mortality by intent: a population-based cross-sectional study of 32 OECD countries, 2012–2014

Objective: To compare the drowning mortality rates and proportion of deaths of each intent among all drowning deaths in Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries in 2012–2014. Design: A population-based cross-sectional study. Setting: 32 OECD countries. Participants: Individuals in OECD countries who died from drowning. Main outcome measures: Drowning mortality rates (deaths per 100,000 population) and proportion (%) of deaths of each intent (i.e., unintentional intent, intentional self-harm, assault, undetermined intent, and all intents combined) among all drowning deaths. Results: Countries with the highest drowning mortality rates (deaths per 100,000 population) were Estonia (3.53), Japan (3.49), and Greece (2.40) for unintentional intent; Ireland (0.96), Belgium (0.96), and Korea (0.89) for intentional self-harm; Austria (0.57), Korea (0.56), and Hungary (0.44) for undetermined intent; and Japan (4.35), Estonia (3.70), and Korea (2.73) for all intents combined. Korea ranked 12th and third for unintentional intent and all intents combined, respectively. By contrast, Belgium ranked second and 15th for intentional self-harm and all intents combined, respectively. The proportion of deaths of each intent among all drowning deaths in each country varied greatly: from 26.2% in Belgium to 96.8% in Chile for unintentional intent; 0.7% in Mexico to 57.4% in Belgium for intentional self-harm; 0.0% in nine countries to 4.9% in Mexico for assault; and 0.0% in Israel and Turkey to 38.3% in Austria for undetermined intent. Conclusions: A large variation in the practice of classifying undetermined intent in drowning deaths across countries was noted and this variation hinders valid international comparisons of intent-specific (unintentional and intentional self-harm) drowning mortality rates.

The analysis has been carried out for a sample of 45 countries belonging to the G20 and OECD for the period–1990-2019. For skill level analysis, the data is available for 33 countries for low-, high-, and semi-skill employment and 22 countries for unskilled employment. For low- and high-skill employment, data is available for 1995-2019; for semi-skill employment, it is available for 2000-2019, and for unskilled employment for 2006-2019. The employment datasets are obtained from the International Labour Organization (ILO) website and export quality indicators from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) online database website. The datasets on R&D, FDI, Gross Fixed capital formation, Medium and high technology exports, ICT indicators, and export unit value index are obtained from the World Bank’s World Development Indicators (WDI) and average Tariff data from the World Integrated Trade Solution (WITS) website.
