Towers Forestry Plot, Long-term Vegetation Monitoring in a 1-ha old-growth Rainforest, La Selva Research Station, OTS, Sarapiquí, Heredia, Costa Rica, 2010–2020
The Towers Plot is a 1-hectare permanent vegetation plot established in 2010 under the canopy towers at La Selva Research Station, Sarapiquí, Heredia, Costa Rica. The plot was created by the Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS) to monitor long-term changes in forest structure, composition, and dynamics in an old-growth tropical rainforest. All woody stems with a diameter at breast height (DBH) of 10 cm or greater—including trees, palms, and lianas—were tagged, mapped, and measured following standardized procedures. Censuses were conducted between 2010 and 2020 to document growth, mortality, and recruitment. The dataset includes taxonomic identifications, stem diameter measurements, spatial coordinates within the plot, and metadata describing field methods and species composition. The plot was established beneath three canopy towers that had been previously constructed through the NSF-funded Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) project, NSF 0722741, which provided key infrastructure for canopy and environmental research at La Selva. This proximity created a valuable opportunity to integrate vegetation monitoring with existing environmental instrumentation. Johana Hurtado, coordinator of the Tropical Ecology, Assessment and Monitoring (TEAM) project at La Selva, collaborated with OTS staff in the establishment of the plot, ensuring methodological consistency with other tropical forest monitoring sites. This dataset provides a comprehensive record of woody plant diversity and forest structure in a lowland old-growth Neotropical rainforest. It supports research on forest dynamics, carbon storage, and ecosystem change. The overall monitoring project is ongoing; this data package contains observations from 2010 through 2020.
Tree Census Data of Tropical Dry Forest Succession in Permanent Plots at Palo Verde National Park, Costa Rica (1999–2004), Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS)
This data package contains tree census data from eight permanent forest plots established in 1999 across four successional sites within the tropical dry forest of Palo Verde National Park, Guanacaste, Costa Rica (10°21’N, 85°21’W). The plots were established to study forest structure, composition, and successional dynamics under different disturbance histories in the lowland dry forest ecosystem of northwestern Costa Rica. Each site represents a distinct successional stage, ranging from an early grass-dominated field (Jaragua) to an older partially disturbed remnant forest stand (Varillal). Two permanent 50×50 m plots were established at each site and subdivided into 10×10 m subplots. All woody stems with diameter at breast height (DBH) ≥ 10 cm were tagged, identified to species, and spatially referenced using X–Y coordinates within each plot. For multi-stemmed individuals, all stems meeting the diameter threshold were measured separately. Tree diameter, condition, and taxonomic identification were recorded during four measurement campaigns in 1999, 2001, 2002, and 2004. The dataset includes species identity, DBH, measurement year, individual condition, and subplot coordinates for each stem. These data provide a baseline for understanding forest regeneration, mortality, recruitment, and species composition changes in tropical dry forest succession under varying land-use histories. The dataset represents the historical component of an ongoing long-term monitoring program of forest succession conducted by the Organization for Tropical Studies at Palo Verde National Park, led, developed and supported by Eugenio González since its establishment in 1999.

Schwedenstein Mildenau/ OT Arnsfeld
Causal identification of single-cell experimental perturbation effects with CINEMA-OT

Recent advancements in single-cell technologies allow characterization of experimental perturbations at single-cell resolution. While methods have been developed to analyze such experiments, the application of a strict causal framework has not yet been explored for the inference of treatment effects at the single-cell level. In this work, we present a causal inference-based approach to single-cell perturbation analysis, termed CINEMA-OT (Causal INdependent Effect Module Attribution + Optimal Transport). CINEMA-OT separates confounding sources of variation from perturbation effects to obtain an optimal transport matching that reflects counterfactual cell pairs. These cell pairs represent causal perturbation responses permitting a number of novel analyses, such as individual treatment effect analysis, response clustering, attribution analysis, and synergy analysis. We benchmark CINEMA-OT on an array of treatment effect estimation tasks for several simulated and real datasets and show that it outperforms other single-cell perturbation analysis methods. Finally, we perform CINEMA-OT analysis of two newly-generated datasets: (1) rhinovirus and cigarette smoke-exposed airway organoids, and (2) combinatorial cytokine stimulation of immune cells. In these experiments, CINEMA-OT reveals potential mechanisms by which cigarette smoke exposure dulls the airway antiviral response, as well as the logic that governs chemokine secretion and peripheral immune cell recruitment.

Topaz OT 2141 television set
In Poland, production of TV sets began in 1956, at the Warszawskie Zakłady Telewizyjne (WZT). The first receiver was the *Wisła*, made under Soviet licence. One of the many products of WZT of the 1960s is the *Topaz* black-and-white television set. Technically, the device is a modification of the *Agat* receiver of 1964. The *Topaz* was manufactured in versions with a 21" or 23" CRT, both of which were designs with a deflection angle of 110°, allowing the receiver to be put on a shelf or on a chest of drawers. Unified Polish television sets, of which the *Topaz* is an example, set out a new direction for the development of Poland's television industry, represented by three enterprises operating within the framework of the Unitra union: WZT, Zakłady Diora w Dzierżoniowie, and Gdańskie Zakłady Telewizyjne. Koral OT 1722 television set
The Koral OT 1722 television set was a breakthrough design, which set the direction for further development of television sets in Poland. The Koral television set was designed as a 19-valve, superheterodyne receiver with diversified methods of audio reception. It was designed to display black-and-white television and was equipped with circuits for 12 television channels in the OIRT (Organisation Internationale de Radiodiffusion et de Télévision) standard. It had autonomous contrast and brightness controls (reacting to the lighting in the room in which the receiver is located) and an automatic black control system. A novelty in the design of the Koral TV set was the use of a 17-inch CRT with a large deflection angle (110°), as well as the use of printed circuits. Belweder OT 1471 television set
The Belweder OT 1471 is the first television set to be manufactured on the basis of Polish documentation and using Polish parts. The first model had a 14-inch cathode-ray tube, and in 1958 the Belweder II OT 1782 variant was made with a 17-inch CRT. It was a modern design, allowing the selection of one of 12 channels and with a wired remote control. It had 12 positions, eight for television channels, and the remaining four were intended for handling UHF sub-ranges. This allowed the Belweder to double as a radio receiver and receive the FM band between 87-100 MHz. The Belweder provided the framework on which subsequent TV set models manufactured in Poland were based, including the Turkus, Szmaragd and Neptun. Neptun OT 1491 television receiver
The Neptun is a mains-powered television set designed for reception of television programmes, equipped with the differential method of audio reception and a black-and-white 35 MK 1 CRT with a screen diagonal of 35 cm. In terms of the electrical system, it is a heterodyne with 16 vacuum tubes and 4 diodes. The device design was developed by the design team of the Technical Development Resource of the Gdańskie Zakłady Radiowe: inż. Krupa, inż. Kula, inż. Tadeusz Pietrzykowski, inż. Muszyński, inż. Chmielewski, and inż. Z. Witczak. According to information presented in an internal paper of the enterprise of 1958, the Neptun television receiver was intended as an upgraded version of the Belweder TV set. Neptun TV sets originated as part of the so-called 'cosmic series", where models were named after celestial bodies: Helios, Jowisz, Saturn or Uran. Manufacturer: Gdańskie Zakłady Radiowe Gezar, 1959-1963 Inv. No. MIM1487/VI-193 Model prepared on the basis of photogrammetric measurements Licence: CC BY-NC-SA Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
