FIGURE 15 in Further division of Alona Baird, 1843: separation and position of Coronatella Dybowski & Grochowski and Ovalona gen.n. (Crustacea: Cladocera)

FIGURE 15. Biogeography of Ovalona gen. n. and the Alona elegans-group. Latter seems closely related to Coronatella, and needs removal from the genus Alona. Distribution of Ovalona weinecki sensu lato after Frey (1988) and Paggi (1987) and continental relict Ovalona meridionalis after Sinev (2006). Western populations of Ovalona in the Scotia Arc (closest to coast of Argentina) may belong to different species or subspecies (O. subantarctica). For A. elegans-group, distributions after Alonso (1996), Dumont et al. (1979) and Margaritora (1985). Latter has a Western Palaearctic distribution center with two possible disjunctions: South Africa (A. striolata, Sars 1916) and Mongolia (A. elegans?, Flössner et al. 2005). See text for comments. The central Saharan record of A. elegans is new, from Chad (Ounianga Kebir; Coll. Ugent, Leg. D. Verschuren).
