Stable oxygen isotope ratios of water (H2O-d18O) from river, lagoon, and open ocean sites along the Alaska Beaufort Sea coast, 2019-ongoing
Multiple water types (river, lagoon, ocean) from the North Slope of Alaska and nearshore Beaufort Sea are sampled seasonally by the Beaufort Lagoon Ecosystems LTER (BLE LTER) Core Program to investigate biogeochemical linkages between terrestrial, lagoon, and open ocean ecosystems. Water samples are collected during full ice cover (April), ice break-up (mid-June to early July), and open water (late July and August) periods, and analyzed for delta 18O (ratio of oxygen-18 to oxygen-16) to use in mixing models for source water contribution.
Shark catches (longline), water temperatures, salinities, and dissolved oxygen levels, and stable isotope values in the Shark River Slough, Everglades National Park (FCE LTER), Florida, USA, May 2005 - ongoing
This dataset provides information on the catches of sharks in the Shark River Slough in relation to physical factors including dissolved oxygen, water temperature, salinity, and distance upstream. Analysis of data collected suggest that distance from the Gulf of Mexico and dissolved have the largest effects on shark catch rates, with most juvenile bull sharks being caught in Tarpon Bay. This dataset includes all sharks caught on longline gear, their morphometric data, and CNS stable isotope analysis for selected individuals.
Stable carbon and oxygen isotopes in tree rings and basal area increment from mature temperate forests within the AmeriFlux network.
Data were used to investigate long-term changes in tree intrinsic water use efficiency (iWUE, i.e., the ratio between CO2 assimilation and stomatal conductance) and the underlying physiological mechanisms. We used delta18O to estimate the 18O enrichment in leaf water above the source water, Delta18OLW. Moreover we assessed the relationship between isotope-derived parameters and atmospheric CO2 (ca) and climate factors. Isotope-related parameters included in the dataset are: alpha-cellulose delta13C, carbon isotope discrimination (Delta13C), intercellular CO2 concentration (ci) and the ratio of intercellular to atmospheric CO2 concentrations (ci/ca), alpha-cellulose delta18O, estimated delta18O in precipitation (see Method), oxygen isotope discrimination above the source water (Delta18O). The dataset includes also the following climate parameters: growing season temperature (Tgrs), precipitation (Pgrs) and vapor pressure deficit (VPDgrs) and mean annual temperature (Ta), precipitation (Pa) and vapor pressure deficit (VPDa), and standard precipitation-evaporation index relative to August, with 3 months lag (SPEI8_3) from the global database. Finally, we also include the ca values that were used to calculate delta13C, iWUE and ci/ca. All the equations used to calculate the isotope-derived parameters, including the leaf water Delta18O (see Figure 3 in Guerrieri et al. 2019 PNAS) are also provided.
Large shark catches (Drumline), water temperatures, salinities, dissolved oxygen levels, and stable isotope values in the Shark River Slough, Everglades National Park (FCE LTER) from May 2009 to May 2011
This dataset provides information on the catches of large sharks in the Shark River Slough in relation to physical factors including dissolved oxygen, water temperature, salinity, and distance upstream. Analysis of data collected suggest that distance from the Gulf of Mexico and salinity have the largest effects on shark catch rates, with most large sharks being caught at the mouth of the estuary in high salinity waters. This dataset includes all sharks caught on drumline gear, including large coastal species such as bull sharks and lemon sharks, as well as smaller coastal species such as Atlantic sharpnose sharks and blacknose sharks.

<p>This data set reports on the methodologies and results of geochemical analysis carried out on samples of magmatic rock, calcite and sedimentary rocks of Hovedoya Island, Oslo fjord, Norway, in the framework of the publication by Poppe et al. (2020; <em>Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems</em>; <a href="https://doi.org/10.1029/2019GC008685">https://doi.org/10.1029/2019GC008685</a>). The major and trace element bulk sample geochemical analysis was carried at the Laboratoire G-Time, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Brussels (V. Debaille), the micro-XRF mapping and line scanning, was carried out at the laboratory of the Analytical and Environmental Geo-Chemistry (AMGC) group at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Brussels (N.J. de Winter, S. Poppe) and the stable isotope composition analysis was carried out as well at the AMGC laboratory (S. Poppe, S. Goderis), supervised by P. Claeys and M. Kervyn, in collaboration with P. Boulvias. Data sheets are provided in .csv or .xlsx format and compressed folders containing .TIF images of µXRF elemental maps are attached. This data set also contains the complete data sets obtained for the construction of calibration curves for µXRF line scan analysis of rock samples of magmatic composition at the AMGC laboratory at VUB.</p>
A 1505-year sunshine duration reconstruction derived from stable carbon and oxygen isotopes

We show that a combination of tree-ring carbon and oxygen isotopes from Siberia provides robust information on summer sunshine duration, which we use for an annual 1505-year reconstruction of July sunshine duration variability (1,5K-SIB-JSDR). We found that the Medieval maximum is 56 % higher than the average over 1505 years. Rapid and drastic decreases in sunshine duration up to 60 % correspond to major stratospheric volcanic eruptions. Grand Solar Minima and total sunspot numbers are also well preserved in the 1,5K-SIB-JSDR. Coherency with a global air temperature composite and spring Arctic Oscillation indicate that a large-scale climate signal is retained in our sunshine reconstruction.</p> <p>Keywords: Stable isotopes; Sunshine duration; Reconstruction; Volcanic eruptions; Sunspot numbers; Atmospheric circulation patterns; Permafrost; Siberia</p>

We also conducted two experiments with Middle Miocene boundary conditions reflecting two <em>p</em>CO<sub>2 </sub>settings (278 ppm and 450 ppm; Europe_Mio_278.nc and Europe_Mio_450.nc experiments) within current estimates of the Middle Miocene <em>p</em>CO<sub>2.</sub></p> <p>v2. Nitrogen and oxygen stable isotopes of nitrate from CalCOFI lines 80 and 93 plus station 081.8 046.9. Collected on cruises from 2010 to 2016.
Stable isotopes of nitrate were measured on CalCOFI cruises from 2010-2016 from lines 80 and 93 plus station 081.8 046.9. Samples were filtered directly from the CTD and then frozen until analysis. Samples collected from 2010-2012 were analyzed in the Sigman Lab at Princeton University. Samples collected from 2013-2016 were analyzed in the Wankel Lab at Woods Hole Oceanographic Insititution. Five samples from station 081.8 046.9 (the Santa Barbara Basin) were further analyzed for nitrogen isotopes of nitrite in the Wankel Lab.
Grain size and clay mineralogy data of the Esplugafreda sequence (Spain) with stable carbon, oxygen and clumped isotope data of soil carbonates
<p>This datasets contains 1) grain size distribution data of mudstone paleosols of the Esplugafreda sequence (Esplugafreda and Claret Formations) measured by laser diffraction, and 2) clay mineralogy measured by powder X-ray diffraction, as well as 3) stable carbon, oxygen and clumped (D47) isotope compositions of soil carbonates. The Esplugafreda sequence is found in the Tremp-Graus Basin in the southern forefront of the Pyrenees and consists of continental sediments formed in a coastal alluvial setting during the late Paleocene and early Eocene.</p> <p>In addition, a proxy dataset of late Paleocene and PETM continental temperatures of the northern hemisphere is also included.</p>

Meterological and stable carbon, oxygen and clumped isotope data of land snails Clausilia pumila, Succinella oblonga and Trochulus hispidus from Europe
<p>These data include site information and collection dates of land snails (Clausilia pumila, Succinella oblonga and Trochulus hispidus), meteorological data of collection sites of molluscs derived using the ClimateEU software, as well as carbon, oxygen and clumped isotope compositions of snail shells of the mentioned three species from culturing experiments and natural populations across Europe. During the laboratory experiments individuals of the three species were kept at 12, 18 and 24 Celsius temperatures in climate chambers, fed exclusively by fresh lettuce and humidity was controlled using tap water (d18O: -9.29+-0.52 permil, V-SMOW). d13C, 18O and D47 values of snail shells from lab experiments and field-collections were determined in two laboratories (Isnt. for Nuclear Research, Debrecen, and Geological Institute, ETH Zürich) using IRMS. Detailed analysis and interpretations of the results obtained can be read in the original publication. </p>
Dataset: Stable oxygen and carbon isotopes in freshwater pearl mussels from ultrastructurally distinct shell portions
<p>Oxygen isotopes in stream water can serve as natural tracers of watershed dynamics. Freshwater pearl mussels provide δ<sup>18</sup>O<sub>water</sub> estimates that overcome temporal and spatial limitations of instrumental records. The reliability of shell‑based δ<sup>18</sup>O<sub>water</sub> reconstructions depends on understanding which shell layer biomineralizes closer to oxygen isotopic equilibrium with ambient water<em>.</em></p> <p>This dataset contains isotope data obtained from freshwater pearl mussel shells<em>,</em> as discussed in the article titled "Biologically driven isotope fractionation in ultrastructurally different shell portions of freshwater pearl mussels <em>(Margaritifera margaritifera):</em> Implications for stream water δ<sup>18</sup>O reconstructions".</p> <p>The dataset includes δ<sup>18</sup>O and δ<sup>13</sup>C values from field-collected and tank-reared bivalve shells, complemented by <em>in-situ</em> δ<sup>18</sup>O<sub>water</sub> measurements from the tanks and shell growth rates of the tank-reared specimens.</p>
