PDF projections for the HL-LHC and the LHeC

For the foreseeable future, the exploration of the high-energy frontier will be the domain of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Of particular significance will be its high-luminosity upgrade (HL-LHC), which will operate until the mid- 2030s. In this endeavour, for the full exploitation of the HL-LHC physics potential an improved understanding of the parton distribution functions (PDFs) of the proton is critical.

Since its start of data taking, the LHC has provided an impressive wealth of information on the quark and gluon structure of the proton. Indeed, modern global analyses of parton distribution functions (PDFs) include a wide range of LHC measurements of processes such as the production of jets, electroweak gauge bosons, and top quark pairs. Here we provide quantitative projections for global PDF fits that include the information expected from the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) in the LHAPDF format. These projections have been already used in particular in the HL-LHC CERN Yellow Reports.

The HL-LHC program would be uniquely complemented by the proposed Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC), a high-energy lepton-proton and lepton-nucleus collider based at CERN. Here we also present PDF projections based on the expected LHeC measurements of inclusive and heavy quark structure functions. These projections are presented both for the LHeC individually, and also in connection with the HL-LHC pseudo-data.

The list of LHAPDF sets that is made available in this repository are the following:

PDF4LHC15_nnlo_hllhc_scen1_lhec.tgz : Based on the PDF4LHC15 global fit supplemented by HL-LHC pseudo-data in Scenario 1 and also by the LHeC pseudo-data.

PDF4LHC15_nnlo_hllhc_scen2_lhec.tgz : Based on the PDF4LHC15 global fit supplemented by HL-LHC pseudo-data in Scenario 2 and also by the LHeC pseudo-data.

PDF4LHC15_nnlo_hllhc_scen3_lhec.tgz : Based on the PDF4LHC15 global fit supplemented by HL-LHC pseudo-data in Scenario 3 and also by the LHeC pseudo-data.

PDF4LHC15_nnlo_lhec.tgz : Based on the PDF4LHC15 global fit supplemented by the LHeC pseudo-data.

PDF4LHC15_nnlo_hllhc_scen1.tgz : Based on the PDF4LHC15 global fit supplemented by HL-LHC pseudo-data in Scenario 1.

PDF4LHC15_nnlo_hllhc_scen2.tgz : Based on the PDF4LHC15 global fit supplemented by HL-LHC pseudo-data in Scenario 2.

PDF4LHC15_nnlo_hllhc_scen3.tgz Based on the PDF4LHC15 global fit supplemented by HL-LHC pseudo-data in Scenario 3.

Background optimization of powder electron diffraction to implement e-PDF technique and study the local structure of iron oxide nanocrystals

The local structural characterization of iron oxide nanoparticles is explored using a total scattering analysis method known as Pair Distribution Function (PDF) (also known as Reduced Density Function) profiles derived from background corrected powder electron diffraction patterns. Due to the strong coulombic interaction between the electron beam and the sample, electron diffraction generally leads to multiple scattering, causing redistribution of intensities towards higher scattering angles and an increased background in the diffraction profile. In addition to this, the electron-specimen interaction gives rise to an undesirable inelastic scattering signal that contributes primarily to the background. The present work demonstrates the efficacy of a pre-treatment of the underlying complex background function, which is a combination of both incoherent multiple and inelastic scatterings that cannot be identical for different electron beam energies. Therefore, two different background subtraction approaches are proposed for the electron diffraction patterns acquired at 80 kV and 300 kV beam energies. From the least square refinement (small-box modelling), both approaches are found to be very promising, leading to a successful implementation of the e-PDF technique to study the local structure of the considered nanomaterial.

The larvacean, Oikopleura dioica is a planktonic chordate, which is an emerging model organism with short life cycle of 5 days and belongs to tunicates (urochordates). Organ formation in the trunk proceeds in seven hours form hatching of tailbud larvae at three hours after fertilization (hpf) to completion of organ formation in fully functional juveniles that start feeding at 10 hpf and are just miniature of adult form.

The juveniles were fixed at 10.5 hours post fertilization, 30 min after the tail shift (Nishida, H., 2008 Development of the appendicularian Oikopleura dioica: culture, genome, and cell lineages. Dev. Growth Differ. 50, S239–S256.). The data would be used as a basic morphological data of this animal to explore organ structures and cellular composition.

This PDF file allows one to view 3D juvenile of O. dioica in any desired directions. One can show or hide the organs and rotate them by mouse. Open this PDF file and activate it as described in Adobe Acrobat User Guide (https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/displaying-3d-models-pdfs.html). List of multinational publishers of serial publications established by the ISSN Network (PDF format)

The ISSN International Centre and the ISSN Network of nearly 100 national centres around the world are authorized by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to implement serial identification according to the terms of ISO3297:2022 standard.
The ISSN Network serves publishers who wish to uniquely identify their serial publications. These publishers contact the National Centres of the countries where they are located. When there is no national centre, they contact the ISSN International Centre.
The place of publication determines the ISSN Centre responsible for identification. However, when a publisher operates in several countries, an agreement may be reached between this multinational publisher and the involved ISSN Centres so that all requests for identification are handled by one centre.
The following list identifies more than 300 multinational publishers. These publishers have been identified through the ISSN Portal (https://portal.issn.org) data. The ISSN International Centre works with the National Centres on this list of publishers to determine their responsibility for identifying the publications of these publishers.
The list also contains information on the names by which these publishers are known and a mapping of links between publishers. It also contains a link to the ISNI and VIAF databases in which these publishers are also recorded. This data is managed by the ISSN Network in an internal wiki that will be updated regularly.
The ISSN Network makes this list available to the publishing community and to librarians. They can contact the ISSN International Centre to share comments (additions, modifications, deletions) on this list which will be published quarterly.

PDF and PSD files of DiapixGEtv picture materials – German version adapted to elicit tense vowels

This zipped folder contains PDF and PSD files of our translation of the DiapixUK picture materials by Baker & Hazan (2011) - adapted to elicit tense vowels in German (DiapixGEtv).

For our purpose we only modified the written information when making adjustments to the original DiapixUK versions of the files. Our aim was to include as many tense vowels [i:, e:, a:, o:, u:] as possible while remaining subtle enough so as not to alert the participants to our research focus . The additional documentation contains information on the translation process and an overview over the adapted text parts containing target vowels in stressed syllables including the target word with its target vowel and pronunciation as well as its meaning in English.

In order to facilitate further adaptation/modification each item in the PSD files is in a separate layer.

Funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) – SFB 1412, 416591334
