A Dataset of sEMG and Self-Perceived Fatigue Levels for Muscle Fatigue Analysis
<p>Muscle fatigue is a risk factor for injuries in athletes and workers. This brings relevance to the study of this biochemical process to allow its identification and prevention.</p> <p>This dataset contains raw surface electromyographic (sEMG) data collected using the Delsys Trigno system, focusing on eight muscles, four per arm, from 13 healthy adult participants. Participants performed a series of 12 upper-body dynamic movements, consisting of 4 uni-articular and 2 complex/compound movements per arm. In addition to raw sEMG data, the dataset includes participants' self-reported fatigue levels. </p> <p><strong>Data Structure:</strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>sEMG Data.zip:</strong> Recorded in 1259 Hz, formatted as .csv.</li> <li><strong>self_perceived_fatigue_index.zip:</strong> Time-stamped fatigue ratings in 0-2 level, recorded at 50hz.</li> <li><strong>Protocol:</strong> Includes trial description, movements illustration and sampling frequencies.</li> <li><strong>Code</strong>: Jupyter Notebook file containing the base code to read and compute classic fatigue metrics such as Median Frequency and Mean Frequency.</li> <li><strong>Metadata:</strong> Includes participant anthropometrics, exercise habits and caffeine intake on the day of the trials.</li> </ul> <p>This dataset may contribute to the testing of new fatigue detection algorithms and analysis of the underlying mechanisms.</p>

Repeated and multivariate measures of perceived distance
<p>A dataset of repeated measures of distance perception at physical distances of 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 meters. The data are also multivariate, with five dependent measures of distance perception. This is a 5 (physical distance) x 5 (dependent measure) within-participants design with a sample size of 46. Note data is missing for 15 trials due participant and experimenter errors.</p> <p>The csv file has 230 rows and 7 columns.</p> <p><em>Subject</em>: Unique identifier for each participant. <br> <em>Physical Distance</em>: Physical distance from the participant to the target cone, in meters.<br> <em>Blindwalk Away</em>: Participants put on the blindfold after viewing the target. Next, participants took one step to the left and turned 180 degrees to face the opposite direction. Participants were instructed to walk forward until they had walked the original distance to the target. <br> <em>Blindwalk Toward</em>: Participants put on the blindfold after viewing the target. Next, participants walked forward until they thought they had reached the target cone.<br> <em>Triangulated BW:</em> Participants put on the blindfold after viewing the target. Next, participants turned right 90 degrees and walked<br> forward 5 meters. The experimenter told participants when to stop walking. PERCEIVE WP5: The multiplicity of shared meanings of EU and Cohesion Regional and Urban Policy at different discursive levels
<p>The data set will contain all the shareable data collected and generated through the different tasks of WP5, that are interdependent. In particular, in Task5.1 we collected a bibliography, which is already included in the dataset. In Task5.2 we collected a large collection of data from different documentary sources and media: EU policies and reports, descriptions and reports created by Local Managing Authorities, newspaper articles, tweets, Facebook posts referred to EU CP policies. During Task5.3 we analyzed these data through Mallet software to elicit topics, as sets of words that co-occur together. The results of the linear regression analysis will be in this data set as well. The results of the analysis will consist of tables of texts and of numerical data.</p> <p>Collected data are only partly available online, therefore our generated data will have a unique value, as there is no comparable public source of data. Data will be helpful for all student and practitioners willing to understand how the concepts of Cohesion Policies, Europe and European identity are shaped in the public sphere.</p>
Perceived increases of fish species in the Mediterranean sea: data from a joint LEK initiative.
<p>The dataset was collected with the the Mediterranean LEK initiative. The initiative was initially conceived by the international basin-wide monitoring program <em>CIESM Tropical Signals</em> (funded by the Albert II of Monaco Foundation) and subsequently adopted by the projects BALMAS (Ballast Water Management System for Adriatic Sea Protection, IPA Adriatic Cross-Border Cooperation Programme; <em>FAO-AdriaMed</em> and <em>FAO-MedSudMed</em>. This action was recently supported by the Interreg Med Programme (Grant number Pr MPA-Adapt 1MED15_3.2_M2_337) 85% co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, which implemented the use of standard LEK protocols for Marine Protected areas and partially supported the writing of this publication.</p> <p>Data refers to self-reported trends of various fish species, which were regarded as increaseing by a sample of fishermen from various Mediterranean countries. Interviews were elicited from fishermen through semi-structured protocols (see Azzurro et al., 2011).</p>
PERCEIVE: WP3: Effectiveness of communication strategies of EU projects
<p>This data set contains all the relevant data referred to PERCEIVE WP3, as tasks within WP3 are logically connected. Data analyzed within WP3, but collected in WP5, are included in the data set “<em>PERCEIVE: WP5: The multiplicity of shared meanings of EU and Cohesion Regional and Urban Policy at different discursive levels</em>” (<a href="http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.1038041">http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.1038041</a>). Data analyzed in Task3.1 are mostly based on transcripts already included in the data set “<em>PERCEIVE. WP1. Framework for comparative analysis of the perception of Cohesion Policy and identification with the European Union at citizen level in different European countries. Task1.2. Focus group with Cohesion Policy practitioners</em>” (focus groups and other interviews).</p> <p>Task3.2 data are the results of a European wide online survey (at the moment this document is being compiled, the website of the survey is no longer online) targeting policy communicators and focused on three strategic aspects of communicating policy: a) factors of success and barriers, b) support from central institutions and c) communication mix and storytelling.</p> <p>Task3.3 data regard the analysis of social media communication from EU communication offices at both local and European level. Data covers a sentiment analysis performed on the Facebook homepages of Local Management Authorities (LMA) of PERCEIVE case study regions as well as twitter networks and timelines for international accounts and hashtags. </p> <p>Task3.4 data contain elements used in the statistical modeling of communication efforts (see Deliverable 3.4, <a href="http://doi.org/10.6092/unibo/amsacta/6111">http://doi.org/10.6092/unibo/amsacta/6111</a> or <a href="http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.1318144">http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.1318144</a>). Namely the collection of the PANORAMA magazine available at INFOREGIO, the Directorate of Regional Policy web portal (<a href="https://ec.europa.eu/regional_policy/en/information/publications/panorama-magazine/">https://ec.europa.eu/regional_policy/en/information/publications/panorama-magazine/</a>), and Eurobarometer data on “awareness” available at the Open Data Portal of the EC (<a href="http://ec.europa.eu/commfrontoffice/publicopinion/index.cfm">http://ec.europa.eu/commfrontoffice/publicopinion/index.cfm</a>). The textual content of PANORAMA magazine has been content analyzed and the results are made available as a .csv table of concepts’ frequencies per magazine issue.</p>

We don’t have the permission to share these data (as they are protected by copyright), but all the sources are described in Deliverable 5.2, which is public (see <a href="http://doi.org/10.6092/unibo/amsacta/5726">http://doi.org/10.6092/unibo/amsacta/5726</a> or <a href="http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.1318184">http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.1318184</a>).</p> <p>During Task5.3 we analyzed the textual content of data listed in Task5.2, to construct a database of discursive topics in Task5.4. Data set includes the description of topics (results of topic modeling), clusters of topics obtained both interpretively and algorithmically, and the relevant data regarding sentiment and semantic analyses.</p> <p>Task5.5 regards a statistical analysis linking public discourse and different definitions of being Europeans on the one hand with European identification on the other hand. The data set contains the measures of variables used to run the regression test, and the results of the test in tabular form.</p>

<p>Several refactorings performed while evolving software features aim to improve internal quality attributes like cohesion and complexity. Studies show that non-assisted refactorings might worsen, not improve, internal attributes. Current knowledge is scarce on how developers perceive the relevance of critical internal attributes while evolving features. Internal attributes are critical if their measurement assumes anomalous values. This qualitative study investigates the developer's perception on the relevance of critical internal attributes when evolving features. We target six class-level critical attributes: low cohesion, high complexity, high coupling, large hierarchy depth, large hierarchy breadth, and large size. We performed two industry case studies based on online focus group sessions. Developers discussed how much (and why) critical attributes are relevant for adding or enhancing features. We assessed the relevance of critical attributes individually and relatively, reasons behind the relevance of each critical attribute, and interrelations of critical attributes. Low cohesion and high complexity were perceived as very relevant because they often make evolving features hard while tracking failures and adding features. The other critical attributes were perceived as less relevant when reusing code or adopting design patterns. An example of perceived interrelation is high complexity leading to high coupling.</p>

Perceived safety and attractiveness of city streets in Frankfurt, Germany: ratings and explanations
<p>How safe or attractive do different people perceive streets to be and why?</p> <p>In this repository we share the data we collected and analysed for the paper "Is it safe to be attractive? Disentangling the influence of streetscape features on the perceived safety and attractiveness of city streets".</p> <p>The data contain ratings of perceived safety and attractiveness (using a 5-point Likert scale) coming from 403 participants who were asked to virtually navigate city streets in Frankfurt, Germany, through a sequence of street-level images. Moreover it contains their explanations of the ratings (in their own words).</p> <p>In total we have collected data for 753 locations. When should prey respond to heterospecific alarm cues? Testing the hypotheses of perceived risk.
In aquatic systems, a long-standing question is why chemical cues from some diets consumed by a predator induce strong anti-predator responses in prey while other diets induce weak or no responses. We performed an experiment to determine if strong prey responses to particular predator diets are due to prey being closely related to the predator’s diet (i.e., phylogenetic relatedness) or due to prey coexisting with the predator’s diet and thereby sharing a risk of predation. We compared the behavior of Gray Treefrog tadpoles (Hyla versicolor) to cues from a dragonfly nymph (Anax junius) that consumed either conspecific Gray Treefrogs, one of six diets that commonly coexist with Gray Treefrogs (spanning a wide range of phylogenetic relatedness), or one diet that is closely related to Gray Treefrogs but has an allopatric range that has not overlapped for at least 20,000 yrs. We found that tadpoles could discriminate among the diets and that the magnitude of behavioral response supported the hypothesis of diet phylogenetic relatedness and refuted the hypothesis of diet coexistence.
Haptically perceived softness of deformable stimuli can be manipulated by applying external forces during the exploration
<p>The perception of softness is the result of the integration of information provided by multiple cutaneous and kinesthetic signals. The relative contributions of these signals to the combined percept of softness was not yet addressed directly. We transmitted subtle external vertical forces to the exploring human finger during the exploration of deformable silicone rubber stimuli to dissociate the force estimates provided by the kinesthetic signals and the efference copy from cutaneous force estimates. This manipulation introduced a conflict between the cutaneous and the kinesthetic/efference copy information on softness. We measured Points of Subjective Equality (PSE) of manipulated references to stimuli which were explored without external forces. PSEs shifted as a linear function of external force in predicted directions - to higher compliances with pushing and to lower compliances with pulling force. We found relative contribution of kinesthetic/efference copy information to perceived softness being 23% for rather hard and 29% for rather soft stimuli. Our results suggest that an integration of the kinesthetic/efference copy information and cutaneous information with constant weights underlies softness perception. The kinesthetic/efference copy information seems to be slightly more important for the perception of rather soft stimuli.</p> <p>Metzger, A., & Drewing, K. (2015). Experimental evolution under varying sex ratio and behavioral plasticity in response to perceived competitive environment independently affect calling effort in male crickets
<p>The operational sex ratio (OSR) is a key component influencing the magnitude of sexual selection driving the evolution of male sexual traits, but males often also retain the ability to plastically modulate trait expression depending on the current environment. Here we employed an experimental evolution approach to determine whether the OSR affects the evolution of male calling effort in decorated crickets, a costly sexual trait, and whether plasticity in calling effort is altered by the OSR under which males have evolved. Calling effort of males from two selection regimes maintained at different OSRs over 18–20 generations (male- versus female-biased) was recorded at two different levels of perceived competition, in the absence of rivals or in the presence of an experimentally muted competitor. The effect of the OSR on the evolution of male calling effort was modest and in the opposite direction predicted by theory. Instead, the immediate competitive environment strongly influenced male calling effort as males called more in the presence of a rival, revealing considerable plasticity in this trait. This increased calling effort came at a cost, however, as males confined with a muted rival experienced significantly higher mortality.</p>
