Interlocked thin-ply reinforcements for improved fracture toughness and compression after impact - 0 degree tabs

<p>This dataset contains data showing the effect of thin-ply reinforcement units, interlocked with a tab-and-slit geometry, on the fracture toughness of CFRP laminates. This dataset forms an addition to the dataset previously published here: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.1476886. The previous dataset contains toughness data for reinforcements with tabs at 45 degrees. This dataset contains toughness data for reinforcements with tabs at 0 degrees.</p> <p>The reinforcement concept was first presented at the 18th European Conference on Composite Materials (2018, Athens, Greece). More information on the concept can be found at: http://wwwf.imperial.ac.uk/aeronautics/research/pinholab/interlock-tabs/. Links to publications connected to this data will be added to the Zenoto meta-data as they are published.</p> <p>For the reinforcement concept, both mode I and mode II fracture toughnesses were measured. The mode I data was acquired using DCB specimens, and the mode II data was obtained from 4-point end notch flexure (4ENF) tests. Force, displacement, crack length, and strain energy release rate during the test are provided for all specimens.</p>

Translaminar Fracture in a Mini-Protruded Compact Tension Specimen: A Dataset of Micro-Scale Tomograms of a Thin-Ply Carbon Fibre-Epoxy Composite acquired via Synchrotron Radiation Computed Tomography During In-Situ Loading

<p>In this study, we developed a scaled-down &ldquo;mini-protruded compact tension specimen&rdquo; to facilitate in-situ tensile testing coupled with synchrotron radiation computed tomography (SRCT). This innovative design provides valuable insights into in-situ translaminar damage mechanisms, significantly enhancing the accuracy of data used in finite element models.</p> <p>The specimen is made of HS40 carbon fibres and ThinPregTM 736LT epoxy resin, with the layup of [902/0/902/0/902/0/902]. The translaminar fracture experiments were conducted under continuous loading and scanning using ultra-fast SRCT at the Swiss Light Source (SLS) TOMCAT beamline (Paul Scherrer Institut in Villigen, Switzerland). A polychromatic beam with an energy of 24 keV was used. The achieved voxel size was 800&nbsp;<em>nm</em>, and 1000 projections per scan and 2 <em>ms</em> exposure time were acquired per scan. The GigaFRoST camera served as the detector. The scans were reconstructed into 3D volumes using the SLS&rsquo;s in-house absorption-based algorithm (Gridrec) for critical loading steps during a test&mdash;both before and after a load drop (detailed in the accompanying Excel file). The tensile loading was exerted on the specimen at a rate of 0.2 <em>mm/min</em> until failure during scanning with the Deben CT500.</p>

Interlocked thin-ply reinforcements for improved fracture toughness and compression after impact

<p>This dataset contains data showing the effect of interlocked thin-ply reinforcement units on the fracture toughness and compression after impact strength of CFRP laminates. For both the fracture toughness and the CAI experiments, tests were conducted on non-reinforced baseline specimens, as well as reinforced specimens. These experiments were conducted to test a reinforcement concept,&nbsp; consisting of creating reinforcement units by interlocking two thin-ply prepreg layers with a tab-and-slit geometry. These reinforcement units are then inserted between the plies of a regular composite lay-up.</p> <p>This reinforcement concept was first presented at the 18th European Conference on Composite Materials (2018, Athens, Greece). More information on the concept can be found at: http://wwwf.imperial.ac.uk/aeronautics/research/pinholab/interlock-tabs/.&nbsp;</p> <p>The fracture toughness section of this dataset contains both mode I and mode II data. The mode I data was acquired using DCB specimens, and the mode II data was obtained from 4-point end notch flexure tests. Force, displacement, crack length, and strain energy release rate during the test are provided for all specimens.</p> <p>The CAI section of the dataset contains post-impact C-scans, as well as force, displacement, and strain gauge data from the subsequent compression tests.</p> <p><br> &nbsp;</p>

Image stack, PLY-files and a NEX-file accompanying: A new symmoriiform from the Late Devonian of Morocco: novel jaw function in ancient sharks

<p>We describe the small chondrichthyan Ferromirum oukherbouchi n.gen. et sp. from the Famennian (Late Devonian) of the Maïder region in Morocco. This chondrichthyan is exceptionally well preserved and displays not only mineralized soft tissues but also undeformed cartilages of the head, gills, and shoulder girdle. A reconstruction of the head using 3D-prints revealed a previously unknown kind of jaw articulation. Here, we make the original cropped image stack and PLY-files of the single cartilaginous elements accessible. Additionally, a nexus-file with the character matrix used for the cladogram shown in the article is included.</p>

Rats Bar - SiteScape PLY

Evidence of the German occupation is visible beneath the streets of Paris. After WWI, bunkers and shelters began to be prepared throughout Paris to protect the population against bomb and gas attacks of a future war. Three of those shelters still exist in the catacombs, one of which is the bomb-proof bunker beneath the Montaigne high school, requisitioned in WWII by the Luftwaffe as their command post. It's a large room with some nice murals. The area still has german signs painted (arrows to avoid being lost, "Rauchen Verboten" or "Ruhe" i.e. "Smoking prohibited" and "Silence"). Electric wires and the remains of a chemical toilet are still here. Crazy to think what happened there 75 years ago. ![](http://www.quartierlatin.paris/IMG/jpg/image600-350.jpg) Scanned with the iPhone12 Pro and SiteScape. Please feel free to follow my collections of daily scans ([link](https://skfb.ly/6YuwK)) as well as my scans in San Francisco, Paris, or in the catacombs: [link](https://sketchfab.com/edemaistre/collections) Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
