GIS Dataset of Colour and Materials at Het Loo Palace in the Apartments of William III of Orange-Nassau (1713 Inventory)
<p><strong>Abstract</strong></p> <p>The presented datasets concerning the colour choices documented in the 1713 inventory within the two apartments of William III of Orange-Nassau (1652-1702) at Het Loo palace (Apeldoorn) for historical mapping correspond to the article:</p> <p>Bernert, Sara. 'Interior Colour Practices in the Apartments of William III of Orange-Nassau at Het Loo Palace. A New Methodology for Digital Reconstruction through the Use of GIS'. In New Digital Approaches, edited by Krista De Jonge and Sanne Maekelberg, 71–88. PALATIUM, 2023.</p> <p>This methodology deals with the captivating world of interior colour practices in stately apartments within courtly contexts, using the power of digital humanities. <p>This data set includes photographs (.jpg), an RTI (.ptm), and related files documenting the Pyu inscription (inventory number PYU012) kept at the main inscription shed on the grounds of former royal palace in Mandalay. The photographer was James Miles or Archeovision, working on behalf of the Pyu epigraphy sub-project (PI, Nathan W. Hill of SOAS University of London) of the ERC synergy grant "Beyond Boundaries: Religion, Region, Language and the State" (Identifier: ASIA 609823) in collaboration with the project "From Vijayapuri to Sriksetra? The Beginnings of Buddhist Exchange across the Bay of Bengal as Witnessed by Inscriptions from Andhra Pradesh and Myanmar" (PI Arlo Giffiths of the EFEO) funded by The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation.</p>

Wall relief from Palace at Nimrud
After Assyria fell in 612 BC, the palace became overgrown and eventually completely buried, in which state it remained for nearly 2,500 years until rediscovered by the British born Austen Henry Layard in 1845.[4] Layard oversaw the excavation of the palace during which time the reliefs that dominated the walls of the structure were removed from the site and sent to collections throughout Europe and North America, with the British Museum receiving the majority of these Nimrud reliefs. Despite excavating and removing many of these reliefs, a great number remained within the palace and were eventually reburied with time. In 1949 M.E.L. Mallowan re-excavated the site, which lasted until 1957, at which time the project was taken over by the Iraq Department of Antiques which still remains in control of the site.
