Next-Gen Quality Assurance: A Deep Dive into Integrating Artificial Intelligence in the Pharmaceutical Industry

This article explores the transformative
integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with
advanced quality tools in the pharmaceutical
industry. From the adoption of Analytical
Quality by Design (AQbD) principles in
method development to the application of
AI in rapid testing, Design of Experiments
(DoE), and statistical tools for trending and
process capability analysis, a synergistic
relationship emerges. The amalgamation of
AI and advanced tools represents a
paradigm shift, propelling quality assurance
into a new frontier marked by precision,
reliability, and excellence in pharmaceutical
manufacturing. Despite encountering
challenges such as data privacy and
regulatory compliance, the industry is
moving towards a future where AI is not
merely a tool but a strategic partner, shaping
a revolutionary landscape where the highest
standards of quality are not only met but
exceeded.

Vision and mission statements in pharmaceutical industry: Evidence from content analysis perspectives

Background: Recently, the growth of pharmaceutical sector in Nigeria are challenged by competitive and dynamic environment. There is a strategic planning process that the organisation needs to use to achieve the pre-determined objectives. This study aimed to determine the vision and mission statements of the pharmaceutical industries which affects their growth and performance outcomes.

Methods: To accomplish this study, a sample of 20 Top Pharmaceutical Companies in Nigeria was analyzed using excel spreadsheet to draw out the vision and mission components. And the list was obtained from Pharmaapproach, Pharmaceutical and Medical Manufacturing Companies in Nigeria as well as InfoGuide Nigeria.

Results: The findings examined that the 20 pharmaceutical firms do have recurring vision and mission statements that are published in their various corporate websites. The industries’ vision statements shows the survival; growth and profitability concern; technology; products and services; markets; philosophy; concern of employees; customers; self-concept and; concern for public image while the mission statement fulfill the components of statement of purpose; customer; products and services; location/market; core technology; concern for growth and profit; philosophy value; self-concept; concern for public image; concern for shareholders and concern for employees.

Conclusions: The study recommends that components of vision and mission statements of pharmaceutical industries have to be consistent, strategically-crafted, well-organized and established. Vision statements have a strategic future plan for an industry and how target goals of the firm will be met. Mission statements, however, is an effectiveness of work done in the industry They determine the daily task that is being carried out, and what direction the firm is heading towards to achieve the specific vision of the industry. It was emphasized that pharmaceutical industries have comprehensive vision and mission statements that helps in achieving their various goals and objectives.

___________________________________________________________________________

Keywords

Competitive Advantage; Mission Statement; Purposes; Strategic Planning; Vision Statement; Products; Services; Competitors

Five years of pharmaceutical industry funding of patient organisations in Sweden: cross-sectional study of companies, patient organisations and drugs

Abstract

Background: Many patient organisations collaborate with drug companies, resulting in concerns about commercial agendas influencing patient advocacy. We contribute to an international body of knowledge on patient organisation-industry relations by considering payments reported in the industry’s centralised ‘collaboration database’ in Sweden. We also investigate possible commercial motives behind the funding by assessing its association with drug commercialisation.

Methods: Our primary data source were 1,337 payment reports from 2014-2018. After extraction and coding, we analysed the data descriptively, calculating the number, value and distribution of payments for various units of analysis, e.g. individual companies, diseases and payment goals. The association between drug commercialisation and patient organisation funding was assessed by, first, the concordance between leading companies marketing drugs in specific diseases and their funding of corresponding patient organisations and, second, the correlation between new drugs in broader condition areas and payments to corresponding patient organisations.

Results: 46 companies reported paying €6,449.224 (median €2,411; IQR €1,024-4,569) to 77 patient organisations, but ten companies provided 67% of the funding. Small payments dominated, many of which covered costs of events organised by patient organisations. An association existed between drug commercialisation and industry funding. Companies supported patient organisations in diseases linked to their drug portfolios, with the top 3 condition areas in terms of funding – cancer endocrine, nutritional and metabolic disorders; and infectious and parasitic disorders – accounting for 63% of new drugs and 56% of the funding.

Conclusion: This study reveals close and widespread ties between patient organisations and drug companies. Relatively few companies dominated the funding landscape by supporting patient organisations in disease areas linked to their drug portfolios. This commercially motivated funding may contribute to inequalities in resource and influence between patient organisations. The association between drug commercialisation and industry funding is also worrying because of the therapeutic uncertainty of many new drugs. Our analysis benefited from the existence of a centralised database of payments – which should be adopted by other countries too – but databases should be downloadable in an analysable format to permit efficient and independent analysis.
