Dataset adopted in the first experimental round. The dataset includes data used for the first type of analysis (learning outcomes) carried out for the ICEM2017 Conference presentation "Integrating MOOCs in Physics preliminary undergraduate education: beyond large size lectures". The data includes the results of the initial, baseline Test, the final Test, and two other variables that could be used to analyse covariance: Sex and Type of Group (Large/Small).</p> <p>3- Dataset on Students' Opinion. Dataset adopted in the first experimental round. The dataset includes data used for the second type of analysis (students' opinion) carried out for the ICEM2017 Conference presentation "Integrating MOOCs in Physics preliminary undergraduate education: beyond large size lectures". The data includes the results of a final questionnaire gathering the students opinion on the four types of pedagogical factors affecting their experience within a large size lecture: MOOCs, Active Learning, Self-Assessment tools, Tutors’ guidance.</p> <p>4- Codes and analysis adopted in the first experimental round. The Document includes two analysis carried on for the ICEM2017 Conference presentation "Integrating MOOCs in Physics preliminary undergraduate education: beyond large size lectures". These are: Test (measuring students' knowledge on the subject taught) and Students' Opinion/satisfaction on the several pedagogical methods adopted along the experimental intervention.</p>
Relationships between needs satisfaction and the quality of motivation with academic engagement in pre-service physical education teachers
<p><span>Academic engagement has been identified as a key determinant in the learning process. Although research on initial teacher education has focused on understanding the mechanism that can foster strong academic engagement, little is known about the roles that basic psychological need satisfaction and academic motivation may perform. The objective of this research was to examine the predictive relationships between basic psychological need satisfaction (i.e., autonomy, competence, relatedness, and novelty) and academic engagement, considering the role of academic motivation. A cross-sectional and non-randomized design was used. A total of 920 students (61.8% male; <em>M</em><sub>age </sub>= 24.73; <em>SD </em><sub>age </sub>=5.34) participated from different universities. The results from structural equation modelling revealed that competence and novelty satisfaction significantly and positively predicted academic engagement. Autonomous motivation significantly mediated the association of competence and autonomy satisfaction with academic engagement. This research underscores the importance of considering competence and autonomy satisfaction as facilitators of autonomous motivation and academic engagement in pre-service teachers. </span></p>

There are different ways to enhance physical examination (PE) skills such as simulator-based training or peer-assisted learning (PAL). </span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></p> <p class="AbstractCxSpMiddle"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><b>Aim:</b> The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a structured, simulator-assisted, peer-led training on cardiovascular PE.</span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></p> <p class="AbstractCxSpMiddle"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><b>Methods:</b> Participants were third-year medical students at Leipzig University Faculty of Medicine. Students were randomly assigned to an intervention group (IG) and a control group (CG). In addition to standard curricular training, IG received a peer-led, simulator-based training in cardiac PE. Participant performance in cardiac PE was assessed using a standardized checklist with a maximum of 25 points. Primary outcome was assessed via checklist point distribution.</span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></p> <p class="AbstractCxSpMiddle"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><b>Results:</b> 89 students were randomised to either CG (<i>n</i> = 43) or IG (<i>n</i> = 46) with 70 completing the study. Overall, IG students performed significantly better than CG students did (max. points: 25, IG M ± SD in IG was 17 ± 3, in CG 12 ± 4, p < .0001). Simple mistakes such as not using the stethoscope correctly were more frequent in CG students. Prior experience did not lead to a significant difference in performance. </span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></p> <p class="Abstract"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><b>Conclusions:</b> Structured, peer-led and simulator-assisted teaching sessions improve cardiac PE skills in this setting compared to control students that did not receive this training.</span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></p>
