Particle concentration data from: Long-term measurement of sub-3nm particles and their precursor gases in the boreal forest

<p>The knowledge of the dynamics of sub-3nm particles in the atmosphere is crucial for our understanding of first steps of atmospheric new particle formation. Therefore, accurate and stable long-term measurements of the smallest atmospheric particles are needed. In this study, we analyzed&nbsp;over five&nbsp;years of particle concentrations&nbsp;in size classes 1.1&ndash;1.7&nbsp;nm&nbsp;and&nbsp;1.7&ndash;2.5 nm&nbsp;obtained with the Particle Size Magnifier (PSM) and&nbsp;three&nbsp;years&nbsp;of&nbsp;&nbsp;precursor&nbsp;vapor concentrations measured with the Chemical Ionization Atmospheric Pressure Interface Time-of-Flight mass spectrometer (CI-APi-ToF) at the SMEAR II station in&nbsp;Hyyti&auml;l&auml;, Finland. The results show that&nbsp;the&nbsp;1.1&ndash;1.7&nbsp;nm particle concentrations have a daytime maximum during all seasons, which is due to increased photochemical activity. There are significant&nbsp;seasonal&nbsp;differences in median concentrations of&nbsp;1.7&ndash;2.5 nm particles, underlining the different frequency of new particle formation between seasons.&nbsp;Aerosol precursor vapors have notable diurnal and seasonal differences as well. Sulfuric acid and highly oxygenated organic molecule (HOM) monomer concentrations have clear daytime maxima, while HOM dimers have their maxima during the night. HOM concentrations for both monomers and dimers are the highest during summer and the lowest during winter. Higher median concentrations during summer result from increased biogenic activity in the surrounding forest. Sulfuric acid concentrations are the highest during spring and summer, with autumn and winter concentrations being two to three times lower. A correlation analysis between the sub-3nm concentrations and aerosol precursor vapor concentrations indicates that&nbsp;HOMs, particularly their dimers, and sulfuric acid play a significant role in new particle formation in the boreal forest. Our analysis also suggests that there&nbsp;might&nbsp;be seasonal differences in new particle formation pathways that need to be investigated further.&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

Refer to `Stytra` and `bouter` documentation for further details about the files.<br> - <em>OMR</em>: contains the data for the quantification of OMR reflex across different spatial frequencies. Optimizing the Shelling Process of InP/ZnS Quantum Dots Using a Single-Source Shell Precursor: Implications for Lighting and Display Applications

<p>This is the data supporting the manuscript "Optimizing the Shelling Process of InP/ZnS Quantum Dots Using a Single-Source Shell Precursor: Implications for Lighting and Display Applications".</p> <p>Abstract</p> <p>InP/ZnS core/shell quantum dots (QDs), recognized as highly promising heavy-metal-free emitters, are increasingly utilized in lighting and display applications. Their synthesis in a tubular flow reactor enables production in a highly efficient, scalable, and reproducible manner, particularly when combined with a single-source shell precursor, such as zinc diethyldithiocarbamate (Zn(S2CNEt2)2). However, the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of QDs synthesized with this route remains significantly lower compared to those synthesized in batch reactors involving multiple steps for the shell growth. Our study identifies the formation of absorbing, yet non-emissive ZnS nanoparticles during the ZnS shell formation process as a main contributing factor to this discrepancy. By varying the shelling conditions, especially the shelling reaction temperature and InP core concentration, we investigated the formation of pure ZnS nanoparticles and their impact on the optical properties, particularly PLQY, of the resultant InP/ZnS QDs through UV-vis absorption, steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and analytical ultracentrifugation (AUC) measurements. Our results suggest that process conditions, such as lower shelling temperatures or reduced InP core concentrations (resulting in a lower external surface area), encourage the homogeneous nucleation of ZnS. This reduces the availability of shell precursors necessary for an effective passivation of the InP core surfaces, ultimately resulting in lower PLQYs. These findings explain the origin of persistently underperformed PLQY of InP/ZnS QDs synthesized from this synthesis route and suggest further optimization strategies to improve their emission for lighting and display applications.</p> <p>The data are sorted per techniques used for characterization. Biobased Structurally Compatible Polymer Blends Based on Lignin and Thermoplastic Elastomer Polyurethane as Carbon Fiber Precursors

<p>The production of carbon fibers based on lignin reduces the cost and the environmental impact associated with carbon fiber manufacturing. However, the melt processing of lignin as a carbon fiber precursor is challenging due to its brittleness and limited thermoplastic behavior. For this reason we produce biopolymer blends based on Alcell organosolv hardwood lignin, hydroxypropyl modified Kraft hardwood, and a thermoplastic elastomer polyurethane (TPU). Samples with TPU content greater than 30% showed excellent melt processability and carbonization yield (35% carbon yield for the samples containing 30% of TPU). The thermal properties were analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry, rheology and thermogravimetric analysis. Fourier infrared measurements were utilized to explain the lignin/TPU interactions which governed the thermal and rheological behavior of the blends. SEM analysis showed that the blends produce a homogeneous structure which was void free after carbonization. These structurally complementary biopolymeric blends should open up new avenues for lignin valorization and bring closer the realization of the production of carbon fibers from biosources.</p>

Data for: Dysregulation of mTOR signaling mediates common neurite and migration defects in both idiopathic and 16p11.2 deletion autism neural precursor cells

<p>Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is defined by common behavioral characteristics, raising the possibility of shared pathogenic mechanisms. Yet, vast clinical and etiological heterogeneity suggests personalized phenotypes. Surprisingly, our iPSC studies find that six individuals from two distinct ASD subtypes, idiopathic and 16p11.2 deletion, have common reductions in neural precursor cell (NPC) neurite outgrowth and migration even though whole genome sequencing demonstrates no genetic overlap between the datasets. To identify signaling differences that may contribute to these developmental defects, an unbiased phospho-(p)-proteome screen was performed. Surprisingly, despite the genetic heterogeneity, hundreds of shared p-peptides were identified between autism subtypes including the mTOR pathway. mTOR signaling alterations were confirmed in all NPCs across both ASD subtypes and mTOR modulation rescued ASD phenotypes and reproduced autism NPC-associated phenotypes in control NPCs. Thus, our studies demonstrate that genetically distinct ASD subtypes have common defects in neurite outgrowth and migration which are driven by the shared pathogenic mechanism of mTOR signaling dysregulation.</p>
