Greenhouse gas partial pressure (CO2, CH4, N2O) and environmental variables (physical, chemical, and biological) measured in urban ponds of Barcelona during summer and winter (2023-2024)

This dataset provides information on the partial pressure of greenhouse gases (CO₂, CH₄, and N₂O) measured in 41 artificial urban ponds—28 naturalized and 13 non-naturalized—using the headspace technique. Additionally, GPS coordinates, as well as physical, chemical, and biological variables for each pond, are included. Data were collected during the summer and winter seasons, during daytime. Furthermore, a subset of 16 ponds (8 naturalized and 8 non-naturalized) was also sampled at night in both seasons. All samples were taken from the water surface.

Time series of high-frequency sensor data measuring water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pressure, conductivity, specific conductance, total dissolved solids, chlorophyll a, phycocyanin, fluorescent dissolved organic matter, and turbidity at discrete depths in Falling Creek Reservoir, Virginia, USA in 2018-2025

We monitored water quality in Falling Creek Reservoir (Vinton, Virginia, USA; 37.30325 -79.8373) with high-frequency (10-minute) sensors in 2018-2025. All variables were measured at the deepest site of the reservoir adjacent to the dam. Falling Creek Reservoir is owned and managed by the Western Virginia Water Authority as a primary drinking water source for Roanoke, Virginia. This data product consists of one dataset compiled of depth profiles of water temperature on 1-m intervals from 0.1 to 9 m depth; dissolved oxygen at 5 m and 9 m depth; pressure at 9 m depth; and temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, specific conductance, chlorophyll a, phycocyanin, total dissolved solids, fluorescent dissolved organic matter, turbidity, and pressure at ~1.6 m depth. The dataset is accompanied by a sensor maintenance log and quality assurance/quality control analysis scripts.

Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest: Vapor Pressure Measurements, 1966 - ongoing

Relative humidity has been measured within the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest since 1956. Prior to 1981, relative humidity was measured at seven hygrothermographs within the forest. Minimum relative humidity at the time of maximum daily temperature was converted to vapor pressure. Digital data from the hygrothermograph charts are only available for three short periods prior to 1981: January 1966 to April 1966; June 1967 to Sept. 1967 and; May 1971 to April 1973. Beginning in 1981, a humidity sensor has operated as part of the automatic weather station at Headquarters. After installation of the digital sensor in 1981, mean daily air temperature and mean daily relative humidity were used in vapor pressure calculations. These data were gathered at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest in Woodstock, NH, which is operated and maintained by the USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station.

Data and code from Artificial light at night increases top-down pressure on caterpillars: experimental evidence from a light-naive forest - 2021-2022

Artificial light at night increases top-down pressure on caterpillars: experimental evidence from a light-naive forest. Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences. (https://doi.org/10.1098/rspb.2023.0153) Artificial light at night (ALAN) is a globally widespread and expanding form of anthropogenic change that impacts arthropod biodiversity. ALAN alters interspecific interactions between arthropods, including predation and parasitism. Despite their ecological importance as prey and hosts, the impact of ALAN on larval arthropod stages, such as caterpillars, is poorly understood. We examined the hypothesis that ALAN increases top-down pressure on caterpillars from arthropod predators and parasitoids. We experimentally illuminated study plots with moderate levels (10-15 lux) of LED lighting at light-naive Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, New Hampshire. We measured and compared between experimental and control plots: 1) predation on clay caterpillars and 2) abundance of arthropod predators and parasitoids. We found that predation rates on clay caterpillars and abundance of arthropod predators and parasitoids were significantly higher on ALAN treatment plots relative to control plots. These results suggest that moderate levels of ALAN increases top-down pressure on caterpillars. We did not test mechanisms, but sampling data indicates that increased abundance of predators near lights may play a role. This study highlights the importance of examining the effects of ALAN on both adult and larval life stages and suggests potential consequences of ALAN on arthropod populations and communities. New Zealand Hikurangi Margin temperature and pressure loggers - data sets.

<p>Description of data</p> <p>In 2019, 14 RBR data loggers were purchased as a supplement to an existing NSF grant, and were tested, calibrated, and deployed on the Hikurangi Subduction Zone margin as part of the Evan Solomon (UW) deployment of flow meters at this site. The purpose of the Solomon pore fluid analysis program was to determine the impact of Slow Slip Tectonic Events on near-surface fluid flow for this active margin. The purpose of the supplemental RBR loggers, attached directly to fluid flow meters, was to add the key components of pressure and temperature to this data set and specifically to identify any sediment slope failures and turbidity flows that occur during the two year deployment period.</p> <p>By May 6, 2021, all of the Solomon flow meters have been recovered with the attached UW supplemental RBR loggers.&nbsp; The loggers were be subjected to a final ice bath calibration test prior to data-download in New Zealand and all T/P data will be returned to UW via internet. The physical data loggers were then be returned to UW via air freight.</p> <p>The data in these Zenodo data archive files include all of the pre-cruise and post-cruise calibrations fro the RBR T/P loggers, the raw and calibrated data, and the locations of the stations.&nbsp; Also included are some infrastructure information including a multi-channel seismic profile showing that locations on the Hikurangi margin with known fault zones, and a published catalogue of earthquakes that occurred during the logger deployment period.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

SOUNDSCAPE North Adriatic Underwater Noise Sound Pressure Levels

<p>Within the Interreg Italy-Croatia <strong>SOUNDSCAPE</strong> <strong>project</strong>&nbsp;a basin-scale, cross-national, long-term underwater monitoring in the Northern Adriatic Sea was carried out (https://www.italy-croatia.eu/web/soundscape). A broad network of nine monitoring stations, characterized by different natural conditions and anthropogenic pressures, ensured acoustic data collection from March 2020 to June 2021, including the first full lockdown period related to the COVID-19 pandemic (March&ndash;April 2020). Protocol for a systematic review: association between airborne pollen, intermittent allergic rhinitis and blood pressure

<p>Previous epidemiological studies have found an increased risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality following days with heightened pollen exposure and suggested that intermittent allergic rhinitis might be associated with blood pressure. Pollen sensitization and subsequent pollen exposure cause local inflammation and cytokine release in individuals with intermittent allergic rhinitis (pollen allergy). Inflammatory mediators can travel throughout the body, hence providing the physiologic basis by which pollen allergy may lead to systemic inflammation, which is known to be a risk factor for cardiovascular events. However, the findings regarding the potential association between intermittent allergic rhinitis, pollen exposure, and cardiovascular health are not fully conclusive. To date, no systematic review has been published on this topic.</p> <p>This systematic review seeks to answer: Are exposure to airborne pollen and intermittent allergic rhinitis associated with blood pressure? Secondary questions include: (1) Are there personal characteristics (sex, age) which modify a potential association between intermittent allergic rhinitis or pollen exposure with blood pressure and/or hypertension? High resolution stream temperature, pressure, and estimated depth from transducers in streams in the Lake Sunapee watershed, New Hampshire, USA 2010-2018

Seven in-stream HOBO pressure transducers and one reference HOBO pressure transducer have been deployed within the Lake Sunapee, NH, USA watershed. Six of the transducers have been in operation since 2010 and an additional transducer was added in 2016. The transducers record data every 15 minutes, and data are downloaded approximately three times per year (early Spring, mid Summer and late Fall). Shortly after download, the data are processed to estimate stream depth using HOBOware's Barometric Compensation Assistant and converted to a .csv file in HOBOware. The data have been QAQC'd to recode obviously errant data to NA using R programming language. No data transformation has occurred beyond basic QAQC of the data to remove known data issues and obviously errant data. The barometric pressure data from the reference transducer located on land are also included in this data package.

Monthly vertical profiles of salinity, temperature, pressure, oxygen and photosynthetically-available radiation in Sapelo River, Doboy Sound, Duplin River and Altamaha River transect surveys from April 2008 to April 2015

Monthly hydrographic surveys were performed along the Sapelo River, Doboy Sound, Duplin River and Altamaha River from April 2008 to April 2015. Vertical CTD profiles were collected from the surface to bottom during low and high tide phases at fixed stations chosen to coincide with long-term GCE-LTER moorings. Conductivity, temperature, pressure, photosynthetically-available radiation (PAR) and oxygen concentration were measured at 8 Hz using a SeaBird Electronics SBE-37 instrument, and depth, salinity and sigma-t and oxygen saturation were calculated using UNESCO algorithms. Data values collected during the upcast were deleted. This data set was collected as part of the Georgia Coastal Ecosystems LTER monthly hydrographic monitoring program, and will be updated approximately annually to include the latest observations.
