Personal pronoun systems in the languages of the Greater Burma Zone

<p>A collection of 51 languages of Myanmar and surrounding areas (the <em>"Greater Burma Zone"</em>), listing the systems of personal pronouns with some additional information and metadata about the language, including the source. This dataset was used in Müller &amp; Weymuth (2017) to show the correlation between the societal structure (hierarchical vs. non-hierarchical) and the types of personal pronoun systems (hierarchical vs. grammatical).</p> <p>The *.zip file contains 53 files, most *.docx, and some *.odt, and a template file. It also contains an R script that we used to produce the map shown in the paper. This R file is rather crude and many things were entered manually instead of reading it automatically from the dataset.</p> <p><strong>Source:</strong><br> Müller, André &amp; Rachel Weymuth. 2017. Contrastively focused pronouns

<p>Data used&nbsp;in the Interspeech 2022 paper&nbsp;&quot;BERT, can HE predict contrastive focus? Predicting and controlling prominence in neural TTS using a language model&quot;</p> <p>This is a corpus of literary texts that have been annotated with prominence and boundary features using the Wavelet Prosody Toolkit (https://github.com/asuni/wavelet_prosody_toolkit). Each text is read by three separate speakers. A subcorpus of contrastively focused pronouns is also provided.</p> <p><strong>Train and Test sets for prominence prediction task.</strong></p> <p>-Lines starting with &#39;&lt;file&gt;&#39; identify the utterances. Here you will find book/speaker/chapter/chapter-utterance# information.</p> <p>-The columns of the remaining lines:</p> <p>word &nbsp;/ &nbsp;quantized CWT prominence features / quantized CWT boundary features &nbsp;/ &nbsp; Raw CWT prominence features &nbsp;/ &nbsp; Raw CWT boundary features</p> <p><strong>Majority, Minority and nonContrastivePronouns</strong> are dictionaries containing the chapter-utterance# (in Test.txt) and sentence index of the pronouns used for evaluation in the Interspeech paper.</p> <p>Majority - at least two out of three&nbsp;speakers use contrastive focus.</p> <p>Minority - only one speaker used contrastive focus.</p> <p>nonContrastivePronouns - none of the speakers used contrastive focus.</p>

Distributive constructions with interrogative pronouns (Russian)

<p>The RuTenTen-based dataset&nbsp;is supplementary to the article &quot;Autonomous distributive constructions with interrogative pronouns in Russian.&quot;</p> <p>The article is devoted to one type of Russian distributive constructions with two interrogative pronouns <em>кто куда, кто о чем, когда как</em>, which possess the meaning &lsquo;different Xs are featured with different Ys&rsquo;. We discovered that the constructions without a predicate in the right context form a special type, which differs from indirect distributive questions and quasi-relatives in their semantic, pragmatic, syntactic, and communicative properties. Based on corpus data, we show their historical development and modern usage and describe the most frequent lexical variables, which fill the construction. The conclusion is that the frequency, syntactic features, and degree of idiomatization have their own semantic, communicative, and pragmatic grounds.</p>

Noncanonical Pronominal Items in Vietnamese and Chinese: Imposters or True Pronouns?

<p>In Vietnamese and Chinese, pronominal items are not only restricted to textbook &lsquo;pronouns&rsquo; but include many other pseudo-forms such as kin terms, person names, as well as other non-canonical items that are hitherto undescribed. In this talk, we observe these non-canonical items in more detail and present a comparative analysis.&nbsp; We then refine the crosslinguistic pronominal item taxonomy on that basis and propose incorporating these alternative pronominal items into a unified syntactic theory.</p>
