RDA Data Stewardship Organisational Models Survey 2021 Output Dataset

Data Stewardship comes in many forms and contexts, with the common goal of supporting data management. Yet that diversity can make it hard for the RDM community to further professionalise our work and services.

The RDA Professionalising Data Stewardship Interest Group (PDS-IG) Models Task Group sought input from the research data community to help model different approaches to research data stewardship through an online survey in October to November 2021. An offline copy of the survey is available as a linked resource from this record.

This dataset consists of a cleaned, anonymised responses from 136 respondents, though not all questions were answered by all respondents. The output are available in a CSV formatted file containing the full response set along with output from a thematic textual analysis undertaken on responses to a number of open-text questions in the survey.

RDA IG Data Discovery Paradigms IG: Use Cases data

The RDA Data Discovery Paradigms IG (https://www.rd-alliance.org/groups/data-discovery-paradigms-ig) aims to provide a forum where representatives from across the spectrum of stakeholders and roles pertaining to data search can discuss issues related to improving data discovery. The goal is to identify concrete deliverables such as a registry of data search engines, common test datasets, usage metrics, and a collection of data search use cases and competency questions.

In order to identify the key requirements evident across data discovery use-cases from various scientific fields and domains, the Use Cases Task Force (https://www.rd-alliance.org/group/data-discovery-paradigms-ig/wiki/use-cases-prototyping-tools-and-test-collections-task-force) was initiated. Direct outcome of this task force is this collection of use cases outlining what users might wish to search for data and what supports they would expect a data repository should provide.

Templates for FAIRness evaluation criteria - RDA-SHARC ig

The SHARC Interest Group of the Research Data Alliance was established to improve research crediting and rewarding mechanisms for scientists who wish to organise their data (and material resources) for community sharing. This requires that data are findable and accessible on the Web, and comply with shared standards making them interoperable and reusable in alignment with the FAIR principles. It takes considerable time, energy, expertise and motivation. It is imperative to facilitate the processes to encourage scientists to share their data. To that aim, supporting FAIR principles compliance processes and increasing the human understanding of FAIRness criteria – i.e., promoting FAIRness literacy – and not only the machine-readability of the criteria, are critical steps in the data sharing process. Appropriate human-understandable criteria must be the first identified in the FAIRness assessment processes and roadmap. This document is a reusable template that aims to support FAIRification assessment with human understandable criteria. The level of compliance for each criterion can be used to prioritise the most appropriate and sufficient training, support and actions.

Results from CODATA-RDA Schools for Research Data Science "being open and responsible at home" exercise 2022

This is an exercise in identifying potential influence of environmental factors on open and responsible research practices. Students were asked to write down concerns about conducting open and responsible research in their home environments (column 2), and to group these concerns around institutional/cultural issues, infrastructural issues and personal concerns (column 1). Through a facilitated discussion, the class identified tools, communities and resources to use to help overcome these concerns (column 3).
