REBCO mixtures with large difference in rare-earth ion size: superconducting properties of chemical solution deposition-grown Yb1−xSmxBa2Cu3O7−δ films

<p>Yb1-<i>x</i>Sm<i>x</i>Ba2Cu3O7-d films have been prepared by chemical solution deposition following the Extremely-Low-Fluorine route, which allows reducing the fluorine content by 93% with respect to standard TFA solutions. The obtained results show that, on the one hand, <i>T</i>c remains stable at ~ 90 K with Sm content up to <i>x </i>= 0.5 where <i>T</i>c starts to increase towards the values of pure SmBCO films of ~ 95 K. On the other hand, the critical current densities <i>J</i>c of the pure SmBCO films are the largest at 77 K, where the influence of a higher <i>T</i>c is very relevant, while at lower temperatures and low fields, the mixed films reach larger values. This demonstrates that mixing rare earth elements <i>RE</i> in <i>RE</i>Ba2Cu3O7-d causes a change in the pinning properties of the films and reveals the importance of selecting adequate <i>RE</i>BCO compounds according to the temperature and magnetic field region where a specific application operates.</p>

Numerical Analysis of Hybrid REBCO-Cu Coatings for the Future Circular Collider Beam Screen

<p>Simulation files and data of the beam screen (BS) of the Hybrid Future Circular Collider (FCC) with a hybrid coating composed of alternating segments of REBCO high temperature superconductor (HTS) and copper.</p> <p>00. All Simulations: All simulation files with no solutions.</p> <p>01. ParametricStudy: Several coating geometries are evaluated in terms of the field quality within the reference radius of the FCC BS. The coatings are defined by the number of segments (n) and the ratio of HTS in the flat portions of the BS (p). The simulation files are generated via COMSOL LiveLink for MATLAB, with the MATLAB script ParSweepAutoSims.&nbsp;</p> <p>02. HspmSims: The experimental setup of a Hall Scan Probe Microscopy measurement of trapped field is replicated with hybrid coatings of different p and n.</p> <p>03. AcDemagnetization: The effect of a perpendicular AC field superimposed to a DC field to the current flowing in a HTS tape is simulated.</p> <p>04. ProposedGeometry: A coating geometry is proposed based on the results of the parametric study.</p> <p>05. MisalignedMultipole: The proposed geometry submitted to other magnetic field configurations as tu study the impact on field harmonics due to a quadrupole field, hysteresis, creep and misalignments. Each study requires different magnetic field inputs, which should be selected appropriately in the definitions tab. The MATLAB script FieldHarmCalc is used to calculate the field harmonics.&nbsp;</p> <p>06. ThermoMechanical:&nbsp; The thermomechanical response of the coated beam screen is investigated. Dipole-induced heat as well as resistive wall heating and synchrotron radiation are considered.&nbsp;</p> <p>07. DipoleQuench: The consequences of a quench of the main dipole magnets is studied. Temperature dependent material properties are taken into account.&nbsp;</p> <p>08. TransverseCurrent: The correlation between transverse current flow and length in electronically coupled HTS segments is analysed in a simplified geometry.</p> <p>09. RebcoProperties: The files containing the material properties used in the simulations. Data from S. Wimbush, N. Strickland, and A. Pantoja. &ldquo;Critical current characterisation of SuperPower Advanced Pinning 2G HTS superconducting wire&rdquo;. In: (Mar. 2021). DOI: 10.6084/m9.figshare.4256624.v3. URL: https://figshare.com/articles/dataset/Critical_current_characterisation_of_SuperPower_Advanced_Pinning_2G_HTS_superconducting_wire/4256624.</p> <p>10. MainResults:&nbsp; A summary of the main results obtained with these simulations.</p>
