PsPM-REW2: SCR, ECG, respiration, and eyetracking measurements in a Pavlovian appetitive conditioning task with juice delivery with acquisition and recall test after one week
<p>This dataset contains skin conductance responses (SCR), electrocardyogram (ECG), respiration, pupil size (PSR), and gaze coordinates measurements for 34 healthy unmedicated participants (20 females and 14 males aged 24.9 +/- 4.1) participating in a Pavlovian differential cued rewarding conditioning experiment with 2 sessions. <br>CSs were isoluminant colored triangles presented on the screen center with grey background.<br>US was a sip of the favourite juice selected individually. SOA between the CS onset and US was 5.5 s. Participants underwent the conditioning task with CSs (CS+ 50% reinforced) and US delivery in session 1 with 2 blocks, and were tested in a retention/extinction task one week later in session 2 with 2 blocks. No US was delivered during session 2. The ITI was jittered on each trial uniformly at random between 9 to 16 s. The blocks in each session were recorded on the same day with self-paced breaks.</p>

Bodily and Visual-Cognitive Navigation Aids to Enhance Spatial Recall in Mild Cognitive Impairment
<p>Individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) syndrome often report navigation difficulties, accompanied by impairments in egocentric and allocentric spatial memory. However, studies have shown that both bodily cues (e.g., motor commands, proprioception, vestibular information) and visual-cognitive cues (e.g., maps, directional arrows, attentional markers) can support spatial memory in MCI. These aids offer valuable insights for designing navigation training programs in aging. Fifteen MCI patients were recruited for this study. Their egocentric and allocentric memory recall performances were tested through a navigation task with five different virtual reality (VR) assistive encoding procedures (bodily, vision only, interactive allocentric map, reduced executive load, free navigation without cues). Bodily condition consisted of an immersive VR setup to engage self-motion cues, vision only condition consisted of passive navigation without interaction, in the interactive allocentric map condition patients could use a bird-view map, in the reduced executive load condition directional cues and attentional markers were employed, and during free navigation no aid was implemented. Bodily condition improved spatial memory compared to vision only and free navigation without cues. In addition, the interactive allocentric map was superior to the free navigation without cues. Surprisingly, the reduced executive load was comparable to vison only condition. Moreover, a detrimental impact of free navigation was observed on allocentric memory across testing trials. These findings challenge the notion of an amodal representation of space in aging, suggesting that spatial maps can be affected by the modality in which the environment was originally encoded.</p>
Food Recall Incidents
<p>The Food Recall Incidents dataset consists of 7,546 short texts (from 5 to 360 characters each), which are the titles of food recall announcements (therefore referred to as <em>title</em>), and their full-length texts (from 56 to 48,318 characters). The data are crawled from 24 public food safety authority websites by <a href="https://agroknow.com/">Agroknow</a>. All texts are written in 6 languages, with English (6,644) and German (888) being the most common, followed by French (8), Greek (4), Italian (1) and Danish (1). Most of the texts have been authored after 2010 and they describe recalls of specific food products due to specific hazards. Experts manually classified each text to four groups of classes describing hazards and products on two levels of granularity:</p> <div> <div> <ul> <li><em>hazard</em>: fine-grained description of the hazards mentioned in the texts comprising 261 classes;</li> <li><em>hazard-category</em>: categorized version of the <em>hazard</em> classification task comprising 10 classes;</li> <li><em>product</em>: fine-grained description of the products mentioned in the texts comprising 1,256 classes;</li> <li><em>product-category</em>: categorized version of the <em>product</em> classification task comprising 22 classes.</li> </ul> <p>The columns <em>hazard-title</em> and <em>product-title</em> comprise character spans, generated based on feature importance of a Logistic Regression (LR) classifier. These signify parts of the <em>title</em> that are important for hazard and product classification. Due to their very low support for many classes, the fine-grained tasks of hazard and product classification may require further pre-processing (e.g. label clustering or filtering), dependent on the application. Data from: Differential gene expression during recall of behaviorally conditioned immune enhancement in rats: a pilot study
<p><strong>Background:</strong> Behaviorally conditioned immune functions are suggested to be regulated by bidirectional interactions between CNS and peripheral immune system <em>via</em> the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, sympathetic nervous system (SNS), and the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS). Since the current knowledge about biochemical pathways triggering conditioned immune enhancement is limited, the aim of this pilot study was gaining more insights into that.</p> <p><strong>Methods: </strong>Rats were conditioned with camphor smell and poly I:C injection, mimicking a viral infection. Following stimulus re-exposure, animals were sacrificed at different time points, and neural tissues along the HPA axis was analyzed with a rat genome array together with plasma protein using Luminex analysis.</p> <p><strong>Results:</strong> In the hypothalamus, we observed a strong upregulation of genes related to Wnt/β-catenin signaling (Otx2, Spp1, Fzd6, Zic1), monoaminergic transporter Slc18a2 and opioid-inhibitory G-protein Gpr88 as well as downregulation of dopaminergic receptors, vasoactive intestinal peptide Vip, and pro-melanin-concentrating hormone Pmch. In the pituitary, we recognized mostly upregulation of steroid synthesis in combination with GABAergic, cholinergic and opioid related neurotransmission, in adrenal glands, altered genes showed a pattern of activated metabolism plus upregulation of adrenoceptors Adrb3 and Adra1a. Data obtained from spleen showed a strong upregulation of immunomodulatory genes, chemo-/cytokines and glutamatergic/cholinergic neurotransmission related genes, as also confirmed by increased chemokine and ACTH levels in plasma.</p> <p><strong>Conclusions:</strong> Our data indicate that in addition to the classic HPA axis, there could be additional pathways as e.g. the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway (CAIP), connecting brain and immune system, modulating and finetuning communication between brain and immune system.</p>

Context-dependent memory recall in HMD-based immersive virtual environments
<p>Data represent result of an original VR-based experimental research, which studied human memory recollection in different visual environments. 92 students of psychology using head-mounted VR displays were introduced into a computer-generated virtual environment and asked to memorize presented lists of words. Afterwards, the number of accurate and false memory recollections were measured when participants were placed in the same, respectively different virtual environment. </p> <p> </p>

Crossing hands behind your back reduces recall of manual action sentences and alters brain dynamics
<p>The experiment involved a 2 Verb (manual, attentional) x 2 Hand posture (front, behind) within-participant design. Half of the participants were assigned randomly to one of the two sets of 120 experimental sentences. The sentences were divided into 12 experimental blocks of 11 sentences each: 5 manual and 5 attentional sentences as experimental materials, and 1 filler sentence that was added at the beginning of each block to discard recall primacy effects and excluded from the analysis. An additional block of 5 sentences was used as practice. Each experimental block consisted of: a) learning phase, including the 10 experimental sentences in random order, plus the initial filler sentence, b) one-minute distractive task, c) recall phase.</p> <p>For more information about the data, please refer to the Corresponding Author</p>
