SIA-BRA: The carbon and nitrogen stable isotope ratios of animals of Brazilian biomes and coastal marine areas

SIA-BRA is a compilation of C and N stable isotope ratios of terrestrial and aquatic animals sampled in Brazilian biomes and coastal-marine areas.

Version 1.0 contains isotopic data of c. 21,804 non-captive wildlife specimens, excluding livestock production or laboratory
experiments. They were 13,881 vertebrates and 7,923 invertebrates. There are 11 phyla, with a clear dominance of Chordata (64%) and Arthropoda (29%), 36 classes, 154 orders, 473 families, 894 genera and 1,157 species.

They were divided into the following habitats: terrestrial (30% of the total), freshwater (27%), oceanic (40%)
and estuarine (4%) (see https://doi.org/10.1111/geb.13449)

Software format: Data are supplied as delimited text files (.csv).

WP6 SIA Model Matrix dataset

There is no single right answer as to which model might be most appropriate for assessing the impact of Maker initiatives. Instead, we discuss the different parameters that are relevant for choosing the appropriate SIA model and provide a matrix of 69 SIA models with their respective approaches and parameters in this dataset and in deliverable D6.2.

See also: http://make-it.io/open-data-api/

Bulk SIA of historical and contemporary squid beaks: raw data and primary analyses

Raw data obtained from stable isotope analysis of δ13C and δ15N in beaks of the squids Gonatus fabricii (Lichtenstein, 1818) and Todarodes sagittatus (Lamarck, 1798) (Cephalopoda: Oegopsida), and primary analyses of these data. Squids sampled in the Baffin Bay, Davis Strait and Nordic Seas (1882-2010) and Iceland, Faroe Islands and Ireland (1844-2023), respectively. Raw data for the open access peer-reviewed paper 'Insights on long-term ecosystem changes from stable isotopes in historical squid beaks'

Paper can be accessed at: https://bmcecolevol.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12862-024-02274-7

Paper's doi: 10.1186/s12862-024-02274-7

FIGURE 8 in Notes on southern Africa Jerusalem crickets (Orthoptera: Stenopelmatidae: Sia)
FIGURE 8. Unique mating orientation as seen in USA JCs. Male (top right) and female (bottom left) start out by lying abdomen to abdomen but facing in opposite directions, with the male subsequently biting a tibia of the female's hind leg. He then curls his abdomen between her hind legs until making contact with the female's genitalia. The male's hooks serve to anchor and orient his genitalia in line with the female's genitalia (see Weissman et al. 2008 for more details).
