Test dataset for "Steam condensation scaled experiment in the presence of non-condensable gases for small modular reactor containment passive safety"

<p>This study presents scaled experiments using steam condensation with non-condensable gas (NCG)&mdash;helium (He), simulating hydrogen, and nitrogen (N<sub>2</sub>)&mdash;as these experiments are pivotal for water-cooled reactor passive containment cooling system (PCCS) design and analysis. Research into PCCSs for small modular reactors (SMRs) is especially important in light of SMR system design; however, studies in the literature reflect limitations due to test geometry and operational condition variations, without considering SMR prototypic design. To address these challenges, a scaled test facility was developed to accurately replicate SMR PCCSs. This facility includes vertical down-flow condensing test sections with 1-, 2-, and 4-in.-diameter condensing tubes, accompanied by annular water cooling. Experiments were conducted using both superheated and saturated steam, with steam mass flow rates in the presence of NCG varying from: (a) 55 to 66 kg/hr. of steam, and 1.8 to 22 kg/hr. of He (as the NCG); (b) 58 to 63 kg/hr. of steam, and 4.4 to 13.3 kg/hr. of N<sub>2</sub> (as the NCG). Test data were collected on (a) the axial temperatures of the annular cooling water; (b) the outer wall temperature of the condensers; and (c) the mass flow rate, temperature, and pressure at the test section inlets and outlets. These primary test data were used in conjunction with a standard data reduction methodology to estimate essential thermal parameters such as heat fluxes, heat transfer coefficients, and condensation rates. The effects of NCGs on steam condensation within the geometry of the scaled test sections were then presented in regard to various testing conditions.</p>

Discovering indium as hydrogen production booster for a Cu/SiO2 catalyst in steam reforming of methanol

<p>Indium is&nbsp; as an effective H2 production promoter in a Cu/SiO2 catalyst for the steam reforming<br>of methanol. We prepared silica-supported Cu-In catalyst via a urea-assisted co-precipitation method that showed a higher H2 productivity compared to the monometallic catalyst and a H2/CO2 molar ratio of almost 3 at 493 K. By means of XPS, XRPD and HRTEM-EDX along with H2 and CO-TPR, H2O-TPD, and N2O titrations, supported by computational modeling, the superior performances were attributed to an easier H2O activation due to lower oxidation state of the Cu, resulting from the electron density transfer from the InOx phase.</p> <p>Here are available:</p> <p>Hydrogen Temperature Programmed Reduction data;</p> <p>Carbon Monoxide Temperature Programmed Reduction data;</p> <p>Water Temperature Programmed Desorption data;</p> <p>Nitrogen Physisorption data.</p>

Operating conditions and steam gasification results

<p>Dataset of the Article &quot;Development of a Chemical Quasi-Equilibrium Model of Biomass Waste Gasification in a Fluidized-Bed Reactor by Using Aspen Plus&quot;.</p> <p>In the delicate context of climate change, biomass gasification has been demonstrated to be a very useful technology to produce power and hydrogen. Nevertheless, in literature, there is a lack of a flexible and fast but accurate model of biomass gasification that can be used with all the combinations of oxidizing agents, taking into account both organic and inorganic contaminants, and able to give results that are more realistic. In order to do that, a model of biomass gasification has been developed using the chemical engineering software Aspen Plus. The developed model is based on the Gibbs free energy minimization applying the restricted quasi-equilibrium approach via Data-Fit regression from experimental data. The simulation results obtained, considering different mixes of gasifying agents, were compared and validated against experimental data reported in literature for the most advanced fluidized bed technology. The maximum discrepancy value obtained for hydrogen, with respect to experimental data, is of 8%, and all the other values reached by the developed simulations, considering both organic and inorganic compounds, are in good agreement with literature data. The gas yield reached by the developed simulation is in the range of 1.1&ndash;1.3 Nm<sup>3</sup>/kg.&nbsp;</p>

Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) have proved to be an excellent energy conversion device. They can transform the chemical energy content in the syngas, produced by a gasifier, directly into electrical energy. A steady-state model of a biomass-SOFC was developed using process simulation software, ASPEN Plus (10, AspenTech, Bedford, MA, USA). The objective of this work was to implement a biomass-SOFC system capable of predicting performance under diverse operating conditions. The system is made of a gasification zone, gas cleaning steps, and SOFC. The SOFC modelling was done without external subroutines, unlike most models in the literature, using only the existing ASPEN Plus blocks, making the model simpler and more reliable. The analysis of the syngas composition out of each cleaning step is in accordance with literature data. Then, a sensitivity analysis was carried out on the main parameters. The results indicate that there must be a trade-off between voltage, electrical efficiency, and power with respect to current density and it is preferable to stay at a low steam-to-biomass ratio. The electrical efficiency achieved under the operating conditions is 57%, a high value, making these systems very attractive.</p> <p><a href="https://doi.org/10.3390/en13225936">https://doi.org/10.3390/en13225936</a></p>
