Interference in the shared-stroop task: a comparison of self- and other-monitoring
<p>Co-acting participants represent and integrate each other's actions, even when they are not required to monitor one another. However, monitoring the actions of a partner is an important component of successful interactions, and particularly of linguistic interactions. Moreover, monitoring others may rely on similar mechanisms to those that are involved in self-monitoring. In order to investigate the effect of monitoring on shared linguistic representations, we combined a monitoring task with the shared Stroop task. In the shared Stroop task, one participant named the colour of words in one colour (e.g., red) while ignoring stimuli in the other colour (e.g., green); the other participant either named the colour of words in the other colour or did not respond. Crucially, participants either had to provide feedback about the correctness of their partner's response (Experiment 3) or did not (Experiment 2). The results showed that interference was greater when both participants responded than when they did not, but only when partners provided feedback. We argue that feedback increased joint task interference because in order to monitor their partner, participants had to represent their target utterance, and this representation interfered with self-monitoring of their own utterance.</p>

<p>data for An orally angiotensin - (1 – 7) inclusion compound reduce time to reaction in 2 stroop task and modify heart rate variability after continuous test in mountain 3 bike cyclists,<br> </p> <p>Recently our group showed that hydroxypropyl β-cyclodextrin (HPβ-CD)-Angiotensin-(1-7) (HPβ-CD-Ang-[1-7]) oral formulation affects performance and decreases the perceived effort of mountain bike (MTB) athletes.</p> <p>Twenty-one male MTB practitioners were divided into a continuous protocol time trial and repeated sprint groups. Three hours before a 20-km cycling time trial or 4×30-s repeated all-out sprints on a leg cycle ergometer, the athletes received HPβ-CD-Ang-(1-7) (0.8 mg) or HPβ-CD-placebo (only HPβ-CD) oral capsules over a 7-day interval randomized crossover design. At rest and immediately after the exercise protocol, the ratings of perceived recovery and the visual analog scale were assessed, and the volunteers completed the Stroop task (ST). Heart rate variability was measured at rest and peak effort. There were no differences in the perceived variables. The ST showed that HPβ-CD-Ang-(1-7) supplementation reduced the reaction time (rest 1032±331 ms vs. after protocol 902±286 ms, p=0.05) after the continuous time trial. The withdrawal of the parasympathetic components in the peak effort to the continuous protocol was not different from that of rest in the HPβ-CD-Ang-(1-7) condition. The results are pioneering, especially in humans, but indicate that Angiotensin-(1-7) potentially affects reaction time and the parasympathetic withdrawal after continuous protocol time trial.</p>

The Stroop effect is one of the most robust and well-studied phenomena in cognitive psychology and cognitive neuroscience. However, little is known about the relationship between intrinsic brain activity and the individual differences of this effect. In the present study, we explored this issue by examining whether resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) signals could predict individual differences in the Stroop effect of healthy individuals. A partial correlation analysis was calculated to examine the relationship between regional homogeneity (ReHo) and Stroop effect size, while controlling for age, sex, and framewise displacement (FD). The results showed positive correlations in the left inferior frontal gyrus (LIFG), the left insula, the ventral anterior cingulate cortex (vACC), and the medial frontal gyrus (MFG), and negative correlation in the left precentral gyrus (LPG). These results indicate the possible influences of the LIFG, the left insula, and the LPG on the efficiency of cognitive control, and demonstrate that the key nodes of default mode network (DMN) may be important in goal-directed behavior and/or mental effort during cognitive control tasks.

Water immersion alters the autonomic nervous system (ANS) response in humans. The effect of water immersion on executive function and ANS responses related to executive function tasks was unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to determine whether water immersion alters ANS response during executive tasks. Fourteen healthy participants performed color–word-matching Stroop tasks before and after non-immersion and water immersion intervention for 15 min in separate sessions. The Stroop task-related skin conductance response (SCR) was measured during every task. In addition, the skin conductance level (SCL) and electrocardiograph signals were measured over the course of the experimental procedure. The main findings of the present study were as follows: 1) water immersion decreased the executive task-related sympathetic nervous response, but did not affect executive function as evaluated by Stroop tasks, and 2) decreased SCL induced by water immersion was maintained for at least 15 min after water immersion. In conclusion, the present results suggest that water immersion decreases the sympathetic skin response during the color–word Stroop test without altering executive performance.
