Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in citizen science - Dataset
<p>The assignment results of SDGs to CS project descriptions are provided in the following dataset. The analysis was conducted based on data retrieved from the CSTRack database on 2022/09/15. </p> <p>See further detail about the study in D2.2 section 7.3.</p> <p><strong>Content and grouping: </strong></p> <ul> <li> <p>The dataset contains the following details: Platform ID (from which platform the CS project descriptions were retrieved), Project Title (Name of the CS project), SDG assignment results (More details about the assignment technique can be found in D3.2 ‘Web Analytics Toolset and Workbench’ - ESA backend), SDG assignment reported in section 7.2 of D2.2 (which only considered the SDG assignment with the highest similarity).</p> </li> </ul>
Open Source and Open Science Sustainability Year-long Study - Pseudonymised
<p>Research software is often abandoned or shut down, for one reason or another. While some reasons may be straightforward, e.g. a sole maintainer has moved on, or grant funding has ceased - some projects are able to withstand these barriers and may remain active and maintained despite adversity.</p> <p>This study monitors open source projects over the period of a year, measuring common performance indicators, to see if any indicators are common to projects that remain sustainable and active.</p> <p>This study uses mixed methods:</p> <ol> <li>Initial survey gathers info about the project age, leadership, and GitHub (or other source control) URLs. Participants are asked to add <a href="https://sustainable-open-science-and-software.github.io/readme_notice">a short notice to their readme</a>.</li> <li>After the initial survey, we gathered information about the GitHub projects such as number of contributors, number of PRs, time taken to close/merge these PRs, and issues closed. Some of this info is gathered using scripts, and other parts are gathered manually. An example of a manual metric is the Code of Conduct - while we can programmatically check for the <em>existence</em> of CodeOfConduct.md, we can’t easily check for enforcement contacts without manual checks.</li> <li>6 months and 12 months after the initial survey, we send follow up surveys, and in month 12 we re-run the GitHub metrics to compare to month 0.</li> </ol> <p> </p> <p>For more study info see: <a href="https://sustainable-open-science-and-software.github.io/">https://sustainable-open-science-and-software.github.io/</a></p> <p> </p>
Sustainable Mobility Plan at Area Science Park
<p>This dataset contains data related to the Sustainable Mobility Plan (in Italian: PSCL, Piano Spostamenti Casa Lavoro) of Area Science Park (<a href="http://www.areasciencepark.it">www.areasciencepark.it</a>). It includes information on the number of public transport users, the number of trips made, the percentage of trips made by public transport, the average distance travelled, the number of parking spaces available and the occupancy rate of parking spaces. The purpose of the dataset is to provide open access to the information on which planning is based, and to enable the assessment of the implementation of the plan and its impact on mobility.</p> <p>The main objective of the Sustainable Mobility Plan is to describe the current situation and the initiatives launched and planned for the structural and permanent reduction of the environmental impact resulting from systematic home-work mobility. Sustaining Cities, Naturally Webinar: Education Session - Bioblitz - Citizen science
<p>Poorly planned urbanisation can lead to societal challenges as social deprivation, climate change, deteriorating health and increasing pressure on urban nature. Urban ecosystem restoration can contribute to lessen these challenges, e.g. through implementing nature-based solutions (NBS). </p> <p>This pitch was made as part of the online webinar ‘Sustaining cities, Naturally: Urban ecosystem restoration in Europe, China and Latin America’, which took place as an official side-event of the European Week of Regions and Cities 2022 on 13th and 14th October 2023. The webinar was jointly organised by the projects: INTERLACE, CONEXUS, Regreen and CLEARING HOUSE. </p> <p>The webinar illustrated how Horizon 2020 projects support international cooperation in knowledge creation and knowledge exchange between local authorities and researchers to promote urban ecosystem restoration in Europe, China and Latin America and brought together cities, regions and local authorities, city network representatives, policy makers, researchers, civil society and experts on nature-based solutions and urban ecosystem restoration from Europe, China and Latin America. </p>

<p>During the Sabai Webinar Series 3, hosted by the Shwetaungthagathu Reform Initiative Centre (SRIc), Burmese Young Experts, including Mr. Tin Shine Aung, PhD Candidate in Sustainability Science and Ms. Yin Min Myat, Master Degree in Archeological Material Science engaged in a discussion on Scholarships in Sustainability Science and Erasmus Mundus Scholarships 2024.</p><p> </p><p>They highlighted the requirement and task that is important to prepare the Erasmus Mundus Scholarships and United Nations University Scholarships for Myanmar Students.</p><p> </p><p>This Sabai Webinar Series was conducted under the Edu4SD project.</p>

Mapping Sustainable Development Goals to Citizen Science projects - Datasets
<p> This work presents opportunities, achievements, and future challenges in using computational analytics to better understand the connection between CS and the SDGs. The work in its status does not fully cover SDGs in CS, but it evaluates and shows the potential of the text-classification techniques for identifying SDGs in CS project descriptions and for assessing trends in connection of CS and SDGs based on available data. </p> <p>A total of 56 websites have been used to extract randomly 208 project descriptions from the CS Track database collected during 2019-2022.</p> <p><strong>Content and grouping: </strong></p> <ul> <li> <p>Compiled list of keywords for SDG mapping.</p> </li> <li> <p>Spreadsheet containing training data from SciStarter (set of projects associated with SDGs)</p> </li> <li> <p>Spreadsheet containing the list of projects associated with SDGs in relation to the different automatic classifiers (nCoder, ESA and OSDG) and manual coding.</p> </li> <li> <p>Presentation in CS Track ECSA event (8th October 2022, Berlin): CS-Track database: a central database of CS projects in Europe that can be key to understand the connection of CS and SDGs “Understanding the nature of Citizen Science in a rapidly changing world” </p> </li> <li> <p>The associated full report resulting from this study is in progress.
