Maximum likelihood tree based on the concatenated and partitioned analysis of mitochondrial (12s, 16s, ND4, Cytb) and nuclear (RAG1, CMOS, MyHC2) genes highlights the convoluted phylogenetic relationships among species of Parasuta and Suta. Values at nodes indicate bootstrap support, and are presented only for major clades. Tip labels indicate sample identities under current taxonomy, and museum accession numbers. Branches of the eleven putative species are coloured uniquely and updated taxonomy is shown at right. Outgroup samples of Cryptophis, Elapognathus Boulenger and Rhinoplocephalus are the same as used in Sanders et al. (2008). Below are pairwise distances among these taxa as inferred from the mitochondrial locus ND4, with warmer (redder) colours showing higher similarity.
