Mechanical characterisation of the developing cell wall layers of tension wood fibres by Atomic Force Microscopy

<p>This dataset corresponds to the Arnould et al. (2022) paper (available at https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.09.23.461481v1.full) on the mechanical characterization of developing cell wall layers of tension wood fibers by Atomic Force Microscopy. It contains all raw AFM files (Bruker format .spm, readable by the free software Gwyddion for example) corresponding to mechanical measurements of poplar reaction wood cells (clone 717-1B4) along 3 radial lines/rows, starting from the cambium. Each cell is identified by its &quot;macroscopic&quot; distance from the cambium (value in &micro;m in the name of each file corresponding to the displacement of the sample in the AFM) which was corrected after using the AFM optical image captures. Some files, with a -z extension after the distance value, correspond to a zoom into the cell wall. The data also contain measurements made for mechanical calibration on epoxy embedded Kevlar fibers, controlled measurements in the embedding resin between each radial line and measurements in normal wood cells. Two csv files containing final data extracted from AFM measurements that give the value of the indentation modulus and the relative thickness to cell diameter ratio (by AFM and by phase contrast optical microscopy) in each cell wall layer as a function of cambium distance are also provided.</p>

Chemistry of soil solution collected from tension lysimeters in the Canopy Trimming Experiment (CTE) plots

Soil solution chemistry: Soil solution was collected monthly from tension lysimeters installed in the CTE plots. Sampling began prior to cutting the canopy and continue to the present. Water chemistry data including nitrate stable isotopes sampled from zero-tension lysimeters in an Iowa corn-soybean field in 2017 and 2018

These data were used in the manuscript titled "Mechanisms underlying episodic nitrate and phosphorus leaching from poorly drained agricultural soils" published in the Journal of Environmental Quality. We measured nitrate, ammonium, and phosphate concentrations in zero-tension lysimeters installed along a topographic gradient in a corn and soybean field in north-central Iowa, USA, during 2017 and 2018. We measured nitrate stable isotope compositions in a subset of lysimeter samples. Concentrations of nitrate, ammonium, and ferrous and ferric iron were measured in periodic soil extractions co-located with the lysimeters.

Stress, Strain, and Temperature measurement data for AISI 301 and AISI 316 stainless steels from tension tests with a sudden increase of strain rate

<p>This publication comprise data obtained during a tension test where the strain rate was suddenly changed from 10<sup>-4</sup> s<sup>-1 </sup>to 1.3x10<sup>3 </sup>s<sup>-1</sup>. The sudden increase in strain rate was carried out at different amounts of plastic strain. The tests were carried out with a modified tension Split-Hopkinson Pressure bar device. The force was measured from the stress bars using strain gages, whereas the strain was measured using high speed photography and digital image correlation. The temperature was measured using high speed infrared imaging. The data is part of the original publication in Journal of Dynamic Behavior of Materials. MEXICAN GHOSTS A Tension between Governmental Talks and Disappearances

<p>In February 2020, Emmanuelle Corne was in Veracruz, Mexico, as a documentary photographer, along with anthropologist Sabrina Melenotte, to follow the 5<sup>th</sup> National Brigade for the Search of Disappeared Persons. The number of people missing in Mexico is officially up to 100,000, mostly due to narco-trafficking. Two hundred family members meet every year to search together for their loved ones as the state official forces do not.</p> <p>Between 2006, starting point of the war against drug cartels, it is said that around 250,000 persons died violently, in context of organized crime.</p> <p>The talks of the 3 Presidents of the Republic of Mexico you hear are public datas.</p> <p>The persons on the photographs are family members of the disappeared. They search by themselves for their loved one, mostly with shovel for digging up the earth, but also by making their case visible in the streets. Those photographs were taken in February 2020.</p>

Translaminar Fracture in a Mini-Protruded Compact Tension Specimen: A Dataset of Micro-Scale Tomograms of a Thin-Ply Carbon Fibre-Epoxy Composite acquired via Synchrotron Radiation Computed Tomography During In-Situ Loading

<p>In this study, we developed a scaled-down &ldquo;mini-protruded compact tension specimen&rdquo; to facilitate in-situ tensile testing coupled with synchrotron radiation computed tomography (SRCT). This innovative design provides valuable insights into in-situ translaminar damage mechanisms, significantly enhancing the accuracy of data used in finite element models.</p> <p>The specimen is made of HS40 carbon fibres and ThinPreg<sup>TM </sup>736LT epoxy resin, with the layup of [90<sub>2</sub>/0/90<sub>2</sub>/0/90<sub>2</sub>/0/90<sub>2</sub>]. The translaminar fracture experiments were conducted under continuous loading and scanning using ultra-fast SRCT at the Swiss Light Source (SLS) TOMCAT beamline (Paul Scherrer Institut in Villigen, Switzerland). A polychromatic beam with an energy of 24 keV was used. The achieved voxel size was 800&nbsp;<em>nm</em>, and 1000 projections per scan and 2 <em>ms</em> exposure time were acquired per scan. The GigaFRoST camera served as the detector. The scans were reconstructed into 3D volumes using the SLS&rsquo;s in-house absorption-based algorithm (Gridrec) for critical loading steps during a test&mdash;both before and after a load drop (detailed in the accompanying Excel file). The tensile loading was exerted on the specimen at a rate of 0.2 <em>mm/min</em> until failure during scanning with the Deben CT500.</p>

Diffraction Contrast Tomography reconstruction of an Aluminium-Lithium tension specimen

<p>This data set is the reconstruction of the polycrystalline microstructure of a small tension specimen made of Aluminium-Lithium alloy. The specimen is approximately 0.5 mm in cross section. The data is the result of 3 DCT scans merged together. The spatial resolution is 1.4 micrometer. The data was acquired at the ID11 beamline at The European Synchrotron Radiation Facility and reconstructed using the DCT software available at https://sourceforge.net/projects/dct/</p> <p>The data is provided in HDF5 format, compatible with open source packages such as Paraview and DREAM3D. The laboratory coordinate system XYZ corresponds to the sample position when all the diffractometer rotations are zero.</p>

Porous tension-cup lysimeter depths and soil water chemistry from 9 Hillslope Project sites in Macon County, North Carolina, within the Upper Little Tennessee River Basin

Porous tension-cup lysimeters were installed at 9 sites throughout Macon County beginning in 2011. Sites represented a gradient of land use, including relatively undisturbed forests, valley bottomlands in agriculture, and mountain developments. Eighteen lysimeters were placed at each site - 9 were shallow lysimeters located in the A horizon and 9 were deep lysimeters located in the B horizon. Collections were made every other week and samples were composited monthly for chemistry. The depths of the lysimeters were noted.
