Gives the name of a person who was the son of Nānigaṭha (?) śrī Gōpāla. Two other names are engraved below, one "Jauṇya" and another in Persian characters. 15th-16th century.</p>

<p>Pilgrim record in the south porch of the Udayeśvara temple, Udaypur, Madhya Pradesh, engraved on the projecting lintel of the entrance jamb to the right as you enter. Dated saṃvat 1475 phaguṇa śudi 6 sukra dīnē (=1419-20 CE). A drawing engraved next to it shows a column of spiralling smoke rising from a cone, possibly a firecracker.</p>

Dated saṃvat 1394 varṣē māgha vadi 2 gurau (Wednesday, 8 January, 1338 CE), when some pilgrims made a pilgrimage (<em>jātrā</em>) to the temple, or were present at the deity's festive procession (<em>jātrā</em>). The pilgrims' names are not fully legible as the surface is worn out.</p>

Udaypur inscription of Udayāditya dated VS 1137
<p>Foundation inscription of the Udayeśvara temple, Udaypur, Vidisha district, Madhya Pradesh, engraved in the eastern porch on a stone lintel of the left jamb (as you enter). The three-part inscription records first, the raising of the temple flag on saṃvat 1137 vaiśākha sudi 7 (=1080 CE) by Paramāra king Udayāditya with the wish for his universal sovereignty; then, the naming of the town, temple, and tank with the epithet 'Udaya', under the authority of Śiva and a śaiva scripture; and finally, the name of the engraver Dhiradeva and the composer Paṇḍita Śrī Mahīpāla.</p>
Udaypur endowment dated VS 1222
<p>Five-line inscription in the east porch of the Udayeśvara temple, Udaypur, Madhya Pradesh, engraved on a stone lintel above the right jamb (as you enter). Dated saṃvat 1222 vaiśākha śudi 3 sōmē (=Monday, 4th April 1166 CE), on the auspicious occasion of <em>akṣaya-tṛttiyā</em>. Records an endowment by Ṭhakkura Śrī Cāhaḍa, a military officer under the Caulukya kings of Gujarat, for the adornment of the god's form (<em>rūpābharaṇārṭhaṃ</em>), i.e. the linga installed in the temple. The transaction comprises one-eighth share of revenue from two market-places (<em>hāṭṭha-dvau</em>), namely the Great Gift Hall (<em>mahādāna-maṃḍapikā</em>) and the Dance Hall (<em>nartta-maṃḍapikā</em>). The gift was preceded by a customary offering of water before the god (<em>dēvāgrataḥ udakapūrvakaṃ</em>), that it endure as long as the moon (<em>ācaṃdrakālikaṃ</em>). It ends with the clause that the grant is to be upheld by the 'fivefold people of the town' (<em>paṃca-mukha-pattanēna</em>), and the imprecation that 'He who does not uphold this will bear the five great sins'.</p>

<p>9-line inscription at the Udayeśvara temple, Udaypur, Madhya Pradesh, engraved on a base moulding (<em>vedibandha</em>) at the south face of the east porch. The stone surface is weathered and broken on the right. The 1st line gives the date saṃvat 1[4]86 varṣē, the 2nd line refers to the deity śrī-°udalēsvaraḥ, and the reigning king [name broken off] -deva-kalyāṇavijayē.</p>
