Project Tycho Level 2 data: Counts of multiple diseases reported in UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1888-2014
Project Tycho data include counts of infectious disease cases or deaths per time interval. A count is equivalent to a data point.<p></p><p>Project Tycho level 2 version 1.1.0 data include data counts that have been filtered from the raw data to render standardized data that can be used immediately for analysis. All level 2 data were originally reported in a consistent format and have not been transformed into a standard format by Project Tycho staff, except for smallpox records that included repeated counts for the same location and week, but sometimes with different numbers. These duplicate smallpox records have been averaged into one count for each location and week. Level 2 data include counts for a wide variety of diseases and locations for varying time periods. Because we removed data in an inconsistent format from level 2 data, counts may be missing for certain diseases, locations, or years. Project Tycho Level 1 data: Counts of multiple diseases reported in UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1916-2011
<p>Project Tycho data include counts of infectious disease cases or deaths per time interval. A count is equivalent to a data point. Project Tycho level 1 data include data counts that have been standardized for a specific, published, analysis. Standardization of level 1 data included representing various types of data counts into a common format and excluding data counts that are not required for the intended analysis. In addition, external data such as population data may have been integrated with disease data to derive rates or for other applications.</p><p>Version 1.0.0 of level 1 data includes counts at the state level for smallpox, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis A, and whooping cough and at the city level for diphtheria. The time period of data varies per disease somewhere between 1916 and 2011. This version includes cases as well as incidence rates per 100,000 population based on historical population estimates. These data have been used by investigators at the University of Pittsburgh to estimate the impact of vaccination programs in the United States, published in the New England Journal of Medicine: <a href="http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMms1215400">http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMms1215400</a>. Pond data: physical, chemical, and biological characteristics with scientific and United States of America state definitions from literature and legislative surveys
Ponds are often identified by their small size and shallow depths, but the lack of a universal definition hampers science and weakens legal protection. In order to determine a working definition of ‘pond’, we conducted a literature search for scientific definitions, a U.S. state survey for management definitions, and looked at pond ecosystem function using data from the literature search. Our dataset includes physical, chemical, and biological data for 1327 waterbodies ≤ 20 ha in surface area and ≤ 9 m in maximum or mean depth from our literature review. These data have a global distribution, we include a table of latitudes and longitudes, and span many years (1946-2019). We have also included a table of 54 pond definitions from the literature review and a table of U.S. state definitions of ponds, wetlands, and lakes resulting from our survey.

Bumble bee responses to climate and landscapes: Investigating habitat associations and species assemblages across geographic regions in the United States of America
<p><span>Bumble bees are integral pollinators of native and cultivated plant communities, but species are undergoing significant changes in range and abundance on a global scale. Climate change and land cover alteration are key drivers in pollinator declines; however, limited research has evaluated the cumulative effects of these factors on bumble bee<em> </em>assemblages. This study tests bumble bee assemblage (calculated as richness and abundance) responses to climate and land use by <span>modeling </span>species-specific habitat requirements, and assemblage-level responses across geographic regions. <span>We integrated species richness, abundance, and distribution data for 18 bumble bee species with site-specific bioclimatic, landscape composition, and landscape configuration data to evaluate</span> the effects of multiple environmental stressors <span>on bumble bee assemblages throughout</span> 433 agricultural fields in<span> Florida, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, South Carolina, Utah, Virginia, and West Virginia from 2018 to 2020. Distinct east vs. west groupings emerged when evaluating species-specific habitat associations, prompting a detailed evaluation of bumble bee assemblages by geographic region. Maximum temperature of warmest month and precipitation of driest month had a positive impact on bumble bee assemblages in the Corn Belt/Appalachian/northeast, southeast, and northern plains regions, but a negative impact in the mountain region. Further, </span>forest land cover surrounding agricultural fields was highlighted as supporting more rich and abundant bumble bee assemblages<span>. Overall, climate and land use combine to drive bumble bee assemblages, but how those processes operate is idiosyncratic and spatially contingent across regions. From these findings, we suggested regionally specific management practices to best support rich and abundant bumble bee assemblages in agroecosystems. </span>Results from this study contribute to a better understanding of climate and landscape factors affecting bumble bees and their habitats throughout the USA. </span></p>
