WACCMX DART Ionosphere Data Assimilation Observing System Simulation Experiment

This dataset contains output from the data assimilation version of the Whole Atmosphere Community Climate Model with thermosphere-ionosphere eXtension (WACCMX DART). The dataset includes model output fields of electron column density, temperature, and zonal wind as well as DART observation space diagnostics. The results are based on a series of Observing System Simulation Experiments that are aimed at evaluating the assimilation of ionospheric observations in WACCMX DART. Included are files from the OSSE truth simulation, as well as from three experiments: Experiment 1: No ionosphere data assimilation. Experiment 2: Ionosphere data assimilation without thermosphere constraint. Experiment 3: Ionosphere data assimilation with thermosphere constraint. The dataset is in support of the publication "Assimilation of Ionosphere Observations in the Whole Atmosphere Community Climate Model with thermosphere-ionosphere eXtension (WACCMX)".

WACCMX+DART 2009-2010 Hindcasts Experiments

The dataset consists of the median root mean square error and bias of a set of hindcast experiments performed using the Whole Atmosphere Community Climate Model eXtended (WACCMX) with data assimilation from the Data Assimilation Research Testbed (DART). The WACCMX DART hindcast experiments were initialized on the 1st and 15th of every month in 2009 and 2010. The root mean square error and bias are calculated with respect to the Aura MLS satellite observations and WACCMX DART analysis fields. The dataset is in support of a publication submitted to the AGU journal Space Weather.

WACCMX DART 2010 Northern Hemisphere Winter Temperature and Wind

The dataset contains hourly simulation output from the Whole Atmosphere Community Climate Model with thermosphere-ionosphere eXtension (WACCMX) with data assimilation from the Data Assimilation Research Testbed (DART) ensemble Kalman filter. Results are based on the ensemble mean of 40 WACCMX DART ensemble members. The dataset covers the time period of December 2009 to March 2010, and includes the WACCMX DART temperature and wind fields. The data are in support of publication "Intercomparison of Middle Atmospheric Meteorological Analyses for the Northern Hemisphere Winter 2009-2010."
