Geometric Control on Seismic Rupture and Earthquake Sequence along the Yingxiu-Beichuan Fault with Implications for the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquak

<p>A 65000 years seismic sequence is numerical simulated using TriBIE on the unplanar fault plane with variation normal stress. The code is now available&nbsp;&nbsp;in an open-source Git-hub project, <a href="https://github.com/daisy20170101/TriBIE/tree/normal_stress_variation">https://github.com/daisy20170101/TriBIE/tree/normal_stress_variation</a>.</p> <p>The modeling will output the bianary format files of &nbsp;normal stress, fault slip velocity, shear stress, slip during the interseismic loading and coseismic rupture stage, respectively. Since it is impossible to output the data at every time step, especially for the large-scale&nbsp;&nbsp;fault model. Thus, during the interseismic loading, we set a constant&nbsp;time interval to output data and the t-inter-***.dat file will record every time, when the&nbsp;data is outputted. During coseimic rupture, t-cos-**.dat file records time&nbsp;of outputing data.&nbsp;&nbsp;So, the size of t-inter-**.dat and t-cos-**.dat file is the number of outputting steps.The fault plane&nbsp;is discretized into 3,1440 elements and the simulation is carried out by&nbsp;parallel computing on 6 servers with 120 CPUs .&nbsp;Each CPU will dispose data of 262 elements.&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

Two multi-temporal datasets to track the enhanced landsliding after the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake

<p>We release two datasets that track the enhanced landsliding induced by the 2008 M<sub>w</sub> 7.9 Wenchuan earthquake over a portion of the Longmen mountains, at the eastern margin of the Tibetan plateau (Sichuan, China). The first dataset is a geo-referenced multi-temporal polygon-based inventory of pre- and coseismic landslides, post-seismic remobilisations of coseismic landslide debris, and post-seismic landslides (new failures). It covers 471 km<sup>2</sup> in the earthquake&rsquo;s epicentral area, from 2005 to 2018. The second dataset records the debris flows that occurred from 2008 to 2017 in a larger area (~17,000 km<sup>2</sup>), together with information on their triggering rainfall as recorded by a network of rain gauges. For some well-monitored events, we provide more detailed data on rainfall, discharge, flow depth and density. The datasets can be used to analyse, at various scales, the patterns of landsliding caused by the earthquake. They can be compared to inventories relative to past or new earthquakes or other triggers to reveal common or distinctive controlling factors. To our knowledge, no other inventories that track the temporal evolution of earthquake-induced mass wasting have been made freely available thus far. Our datasets can be accessed from <a href="https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.1405490">https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.1405490</a>. We also encourage other researchers to share their datasets to facilitate research on post-seismic geological hazards.</p>

Two multi-temporal datasets to track debris flow after the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake

<p>We provide two datasets for tracking the debris flow induced by the 2008 Wenchuan Mw 7.9 earthquake on a section of the Longmen mountains on the eastern side of the Tibetan plateau (Sichuan, China). The database was obtained through a literature review and field survey reports in the epicenter area, combined with high-resolution remote sensing imagery and extensive data collection and processing. The first dataset covers an area of 892 km<sup>2</sup>, including debris flows from 2008 to 2020. 186 debris flows affecting 79 watersheds were identified. 89 rainfall stations were collected to determine the rainfall events for the post-earthquake debris flow outbreak. The second database is a list of mitigation measures for post-earthquake debris flows, including catchment name, check dam number, coordinates, construction time, and successful debris flow mitigation date. This two datasets can aid different applications, including the early warning monitoring and engineering prevention of post-earthquake debris flow, as well as provide valuable data support for research in related disciplines.</p>
