Building a Ngalawa Double Outrigger Logboat in Bagamoyo, Tanzania: A Craftsman at his Work. 3D Model and Documentary Film Files.

The 3D model and documentary film detailing the building of the Bahari Yetu, Urithi Wetu ngalawa accompany an article on building a Ngalawa, a double outrigger logboat. The article documents master logboat-builder Alalae Mohamed’s construction of a ngalawa fishing vessel in Bagamoyo, Tanzania, in 2019. The ngalawa is an extended logboat with double outrigger and lateen sail: used by low-income, artisanal fishers. It is the most common marine vessel type of the East African coast. This article follows the construction process from Alalae’s selection and the felling of the tree(s) to the launching of the vessel. It outlines the tools and materials used, details the sequence he followed, and presents his choices and considerations made along the way. It is accompanied by a documentary film recording the construction process, a 3D digital model of the vessel and detailed construction drawings.

Computational results and python files for the work "Divergence-conforming velocity and vorticity approximations for incompressible fluids obtained with minimal facet coupling"

This repository contains data accompanying the paper "Divergence-conforming velocity and vorticity approximations for incompressible fluids obtained with minimal facet coupling".

The implementation is based on the python-interface of the NGSolve open source Finite Element library (ngsolve.org).

The file solve_problem_allione.py represents a minimum working example where the proposed MCS/HDG (set the use_MCS flag) method is used to solve the problem from the numerics section of the paper.

The files FlowTemplates.py and krylovspace_extension.py contain a somewhat larger and more modular implementation of the proposed method that also features preconditioned iterative solvers, including support for the NgsAMG NGSolve extension library as well as the NGSolve-PETSc interface.

The files errors_hdg.pickle, errors_mcs.pickle and kappas.pickle contain the raw data the tables and pictures in the paper were generated from.

This data was generated with the scripts conv3d_hdg.py, conv3d_mcs.py and calc_kappas.py which use the FlowTemplates.py infrastructure.

Zemax files for NA=0.29 and NA=0.40 long-working-distance lens objectives assembled by commercial on-catalog singlets

Zemax files of two lens objective with numerical apertures (NA) of 0.29 and 0.4. The objective lenses are made entirely from commercial on-catalog Ø1'' singlets. Both the objectives can correct the spherical aberrations due to the standard flat vacuum glass windows with various thickness. The diffraction-limited fields of view for NA=0.29 and NA=0.4 objectives are 600 μm and 150 μm. The spatial resolutions for the two objectives are 1.8 μm and 1.3 μm at the design wavelength.
