Secchi depth data and discrete depth profiles of water temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, specific conductance, photosynthetic active radiation, oxidation-reduction potential, and pH for Beaverdam Reservoir, Carvins Cove Reservoir, Falling Creek Reservoir, Gatewood Reservoir, and Spring Hollow Reservoir in southwestern Virginia, USA 2013-2025
Discrete depth profiles of water temperature, dissolved oxygen, oxidation-reduction potential, conductivity, specific conductance, and pH were collected with multiple handheld water quality probes and discrete depth profiles of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) were collected with a LI-COR underwater light meter from 2013 to 2025 in five drinking water reservoirs in southwestern Virginia, USA. These reservoirs are: Beaverdam Reservoir (Vinton, Virginia), Carvins Cove Reservoir (Roanoke, Virginia), Falling Creek Reservoir (Vinton, Virginia), Gatewood Reservoir (Pulaski, Virginia), and Spring Hollow Reservoir (Salem, Virginia). Beaverdam, Carvins Cove, Falling Creek, and Spring Hollow Reservoirs are owned and operated by the Western Virginia Water Authority as primary or secondary drinking water sources for Roanoke, Virginia, and Gatewood Reservoir is a drinking water source for the Town of Pulaski, Virginia. All discrete depth profiles were collected on approximately 1-meter intervals. The data package consists of two datasets: 1) Secchi depth data; and 2) discrete depth profiles of multiple water quality variables measured by handheld sensors. The Secchi data and discrete depth profiles were measured at the deepest site of each reservoir adjacent to the dam, as well as other in-reservoir sites. Handheld sensor measurements were also collected at a gauged weir on the primary inflow tributary, other inflows, and outflows at Falling Creek Reservoir; inflows and outflows at Beaverdam Reservoir; and inflows at Carvins Cove Reservoir. In 2021, YSI handheld data were also collected from a littoral site in Beaverdam Reservoir. In 2025, YSI handheld data were collected monthly from June to October from nine littoral sites around the perimeter of Falling Creek Reservoir. From 2024 - 2025, additional within-reservoir depth profiles were collected in Carvins Cove Reservoir and multiple sites. Water quality, temperature, ash-free dry mass, photosynthetic activate radiation (PAR), and zooplankton data from a warming and DOC subsidy experiment, 2020 - 2021.
This dataset includes chlorophyll-a concentrations, periphyton biomass estimates, water quality measurements, and qualitative observations from a large-scale mesocosm experiment conducted in the Green Lakes Watershed, Colorado. The experiment was designed to test how earlier lake ice-off and increased dissolved organic material (DOM), associated with terrestrial plant encroachment in alpine watersheds, interactively influence aquatic food webs. In fall 2019, twenty 2600L “megacosms” were established at Sandy Corner (3300 m ASL; 40.042289, -105.584006), left to fill with snowmelt, and maintained throughout the 2020 open water season. The experiment followed a 2 × 2 randomized block design manipulating ice-off timing (via black vs. beige tank coloration) and DOM inputs (presence/absence of willow leaf packs), with five replicates per treatment. All tanks were seeded with sediments and zooplankton from both alpine and montane lakes (Green Lake 1 and Green Lake 4), and instrumented with thermistors recording surface and hypolimnion temperature every two hours year-round. Periphyton growth was monitored using clay tiles, sampled across five time points. Chlorophyll-a concentrations were extracted from filtered water samples and analyzed spectrophotometrically. Periphyton biomass was estimated via ash-free dry mass (AFDM) determinations, based on the mass lost on combustion of material scraped from tiles. Water quality was measured 1–2 times weekly using a YSI ProPlus multiprobe and Li-Cor quantum sensor, and snow/ice cover was qualitatively assessed monthly during winter.
CATCH-EyoU: Exploiting European data and testing the integrated theory of youth active EU citizenship: EACEA subset analysis
<p>This dataset was created within the research project Constructing AcTive CitizensHip with European Youth: Policies, Practices, Challenges and Solutions (CATCH-EyoU) funded by European Union, Horizon 2020 Programme, Grant Agreement No 649538. Work Package 4 of this project (Exploiting European data and testing the integrated theory of youth active EU citizenship) is focused on the re-analysis of existing European data. This dataset contains a subset of data originally collected within the project “<em>EACEA 2010/03: Youth Participation in Democratic Life</em>”, coordinated by the London School of Economic and Political Science. Specifically, an online questionnaire survey in seven European countries was conducted among young people age 15-30 in 2011. This dataset contains a subset of 22 variables that were employed for the reanalysis within the CATCH-EyoU project.</p>
Metabolism dataset: one year of high-frequency temperature, dissolved oxygen, wind, photosynthetically active radiation observations and low-frequency nutrient data for 58 lakes in the Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network
Understanding controls on primary productivity is essential for describing ecosystems and their responses to environmental change. Lake primary production is strongly controlled by inputs of nutrients and colored dissolved organic matter. While past studies have developed mathematical models of this nutrient-color paradigm, broad empirical tests of these models are scarce. We compiled data from 58 diverse and globally distributed and mostly temperate lakes to test such a model and improve understanding and prediction of the controls on lake primary production. These lakes varied widely in size (0.02-2300 km2), pelagic gross primary production (20-8000 mg C m-2 d-1), and other characteristics. The data package includes high-frequency dissolved oxygen, water temperature, wind speed, and solar radiation data as well as daily estimates of GPP and ER derived from those data. In addition, the data package includes median in-lake and stream concentrations of dissolved organic carbon and total phosphorus for a subset of 18 of those lakes.
Data from: Cascading effects of apex predator recovery on rodent foraging activity and seed predation
This dataset was collected to examine the effects of apex predator presence on post-dispersal seed predation and rodent foraging behavior in Mediterranean ecosystems of southern Spain. The study focused on the Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus) as a top predator capable of altering mesopredator and small mammal communities through cascading interactions. We used the fleshy-fruited tree Pyrus bourgaeana as a model species and conducted a seed predation experiment in two areas with and without lynx presence. A total of 1152 seeds were placed in 144 seed depots across forest and open habitats and three microhabitat types (rock, shrub, and open ground). Rodent activity and foraging behavior were monitored using 36 camera traps installed at a subset of seed depots, and rodent abundance was estimated with live trapping one week later. The dataset includes seed predation counts, camera-trap records of rodent visits, live-trapping results, and vegetation cover estimates. These data allow investigation of how predation risk and habitat structure influence rodent activity and post-dispersal seed predation dynamics in Mediterranean landscapes.

<p>This dataset includes anonymized records of student activities in a peer review activity performed through Synergy platform. This data comes from an educational technology course delivered in an European university. There were 30 participants from different departments (Computer science, Math, Physics, Preschool and Elementary Education) In this course, the main course assignment was a learning design project in which students worked in groups. The activity lasted 3 weeks and for each project 2-3 reviewers were assigned.</p>

Data and model for detecting spam activity on academic articles
<p>With the remarkable capability to reach the public instantly, social media has become integral in sharing scholarly articles to measure public response. This paper analyzes how Twitter bots interact with scholarly articles on the platform. Spamming by bots on social media can steer the conversation and present a false public interest in given research, affecting policies impacting the public's lives in the real world. In this paper, we determined whether bots are disseminating a given scholarly article based on analyzing the relationship between Twitter bots and several research factors. We developed and tested several supervised machine-learning classification models to tackle this problem. Through our analysis, we also identified that scholarly articles in health and human science are more prone to bot activity than other research areas.</p>

(2023).</p><p>Output data is included for 50 nm particles containing sodium myristate (c14na) and myristic acid (myristica), mixed with NaCl (nacl) in different surfactant mass fractions. CCE LTER process cruise, in the California Current region, event log records including date, time, position and activity for use in post-cruise data integration based on co-sampling indexes. From 2006 to 2019 CCE LTER used a locally developed event logging system. During P2107, CCE LTER started to utilize the R2R Event Logger on UNOL ships, 2006 - 2024 (ongoing).
The event logger program developed and maintained by the California Cooperative Oceanic Fisheries Investigations, SIO, program is used aboard CCE LTER process cruises to create indexes with temporal, spatial and activity information for post-cruise data integration. The event log is configured aboard the ship for the recording of sampling events by both ship crew personnel on the bridge, and research personnel in the lab. The event log is processed post-cruise to correct for various errors.
SEA01 Soil extracellular enzyme activity data from the Belowground Plot Experiment
Data describe the activity of soil extracellular enzymes collected approximately every month in 2015 from the Belowground Plot Experiment. The measured enzymes depolymerize soil organic matter to release labile carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus. Soil carbon and nitrogen were measured in July 2015 only, since these soil variables are not expected to change monthly.
