Geochemical evidence for high volatile fluxes from the mantle at the end of the Archean: Sample data

This file describes the origin of samples and gives the original xenon data published in refs. 4, 5 and 8. The slopes of the fractionation lines are given in refs. 8 (Table S1), 5 (Tables 1 and S1) and 4 (Table S1). For the barite sample (Ref. 6, Table 1), Xe data were normalized to 132Xe since 130Xe could have been contributed by radioactivity products. In this case Δ129Xe was computed from 128Xe and 131,132Xe data. The Δ129Xe values were computed from the difference between the isotope fractionation slope (‰/u) and the 129Xe/130Xe values in deviation permil (‰) relative to the corresponding atmospheric isotope composition.

3D simulations of the Archean Earth including photochemical haze profiles [dataset]

Dataset of 3D simulations of the Archean Earth including photochemical haze profiles

We present results from 3D simulations of the Archean Earth including a prescribed spherical haze generated through a 1D photochemical model. Our simulations suggest that a thin haze layer, formed when CH4/CO2 = 0.1, leads to global warming of ~10.6K due to the change of water vapour and cloud feedback, compared to the simulation without any haze. However, a thicker haze layer, formed when CH4/CO2 > 0.1, leads to global cooling of up to ~65K as the scattering and absorption of shortwave radiation from the haze reduces the radiation from reaching the planetary surface. A thermal inversion is formed with a lower tropopause as the CH4/CO2 ratio increases. The haze reaches an optical threshold thickness when CH4/CO2 ~ 0.175 beyond which the atmospheric structure and the global surface temperature do not vary much.

The IRIS python package developed by the Met Office is needed to analyse the data.

Archean crust and metallogenic zones in the Amazonian Craton sensed by satellite gravity data

This is the geochronology data inventory for the published paper 'Archean crust and metallogenic zones in the Amazonian Craton sensed by satellite gravity data' on Scientific Reports.

As it reads in the Methods section of the publication: ' Geochronological data.To constrain our interpretations over the physical structure of the terranes regard-ing feasible geological evolution, we evaluated their age relationships from a compiled geochronology data set. We examined the TDM model and crystallization ages to unveil the relationships of parent material to a common ancestor reservoir, and crystallization of igneous and protoliths rocks, respectively. Evaluation of εNd determi-nations provide clues for the derivation of crustal material during crystallization and reworking episodes. The compiled data set comprises 414 age determinations from various minerals and methods (Sm-Nd, U-Pb, Pb-Pb, K-Ar, Ar-Ar isotopic systems). The target ages were model (n = 142) and crystallization (n = 272) ages. A total of 99 simultaneous determinations of Sm and Nd isotopic composition and crystallization ages with εNd calcula-tions were compiled to evaluate crustal evolution. Data come from more than 50 publications, most of them cited in papers14–18,21,22,26,28,30,31,33–35,42,50 and references therein. We are aware that the geochronology data set is deficient in some aspects, such as the existence of geographical gaps (e.g., western Carajás, southern Bacajá), sample collec-tion bias, and preservation of the geochronology record, or even incomplete inspection of the record'.
