Preliminary data collected by 2 prototype Surface Velocity Platform drifters with Barometer and Reference Sensor for Temperature (SVP-BRST)

The SVP-BRST drifter was developed to serve calibration and validation of Sentinel satellite SST retrievals. Two prototypes were deployed in the Mediterranean Sea end of April 2018. Preliminary data collected then until 11 June 2018 are published in this dataset. The drifters were developed and deployed under funding from the European Union's Copernicus Programme. The data are transmitted from the buoy to shore using data format #091 (see References).

Climate Change Awareness in the Arab Barometer Wave 5 Survey

The Arab Barometer Wave V 2018-2019 is based on a nationally representative probability sample of the population aged 18 and above. In most countries, the sample includes 2,400 citizens. The data were conducted in face-to-face public opinion surveys (CAPI and PAPI). See technical reports by country for country-specific information. You can find the data, codebooks and all relevant information on the Arab Barometer website.

Our dataset contains country weighted counts of different answer options and the re-weighted values of the answers given to the Arab Barometer Wave 5 question:

Q108 : How serious a problem do you think the following issues are: Is climate change a very serious problem, a somewhat serious problem, not a very serious problem, not at all a serious problem?

Get the country averages and aggregates from Zenodo

Get the plot in jpg or png from figshare.

See the detailed PDF documentation.

REGIONAL BAROMETER OF PROTECTIONISM

This dataset contains number of media releases including the word ‘protectionism’ (with noun declension in the Polish language) that were calculated based on data obtained from an information agency that monitors the media in Poland. On this basis (RBP_1), regional barometer of protectionism (RBP) for Poland was created using TOPSIS method. Dataset includes barometer both, on a monthly (RBP_2) as well as annual basis (RBP_3).

Environmental DNA can act as a biodiversity barometer of anthropogenic pressures in coastal ecosystems

Loss of biodiversity from lower to upper trophic levels reduces overall productivity and stability of coastal ecosystems in our oceans, but rarely are these changes documented across both time and space. The characterisation of environmental DNA (eDNA) from sediment and seawater using metabarcoding offers a powerful molecular lens to observe marine biota and provides a series of 'snapshots' across a broad spectrum of eukaryotic organisms. Using these next-generation tools and downstream analytical innovations including machine learning sequence assignment algorithms and co-occurrence network analyses, we examined how anthropogenic pressures may have impacted marine biodiversity on subtropical coral reefs in Okinawa, Japan. Based on 18S ribosomal RNA, but not ITS2 sequence data due to inconsistent amplification across samples, as well as proxies for anthropogenic disturbance, we show that eukaryotic richness at the family level significantly increases with medium and high levels of disturbance. This change in richness coincides with compositional changes, a decrease in connectedness among taxa, an increase in fragmentation of taxon co-occurrence networks, and a shift in indicator taxa. Taken together, these findings demonstrate the ability of eDNA to act as a barometer of disturbance and provide an exemplar of how ecological functions, biotic networks, and coral reef resilience may be impacted by anthropogenic activities.

2013 Open Data Barometer

The Open Data Barometer aims to uncover the true prevalence and impact of open data initiatives around the world. It analyses global trends, and also ranks countries and regions via an in-depth methodology that considers: readiness to secure the benefits of open data; actual levels of implementation; and the impact of such initiatives.

This is the pilot edition of the Open Data Barometer, and contains data from a global expert survey, along with secondary data.

Full details are provided in the Open Data Barometer 2013 Global Report

The Finnish Principal Barometer

The Principal barometer is an ongoing follow-up study of principals, deputy principals, vice-principals, and school leaders of primary education or upper secondary education in Finland.

The principal barometer is an extensive longitudinal study aimed at investigating the occupational well-being of Finnish principals. The research is carried out in co-operation between researchers from the University of Helsinki and Suomen Rehtorit ry (Association of Finnish school principals). Our primary goal is to investigate and follow the well-being of Finnish principals and compare with international data as well as other industries and professions. This project is adjacent to the international Educator Health and Wellbeing study, led by Professor Philip Riley from Australia, and involves collaboration with Australian Catholic University’s Institute for Positive Psychology and Education.

We utilise a comprehensive questionnaire to examine the principals' work situation, well-being, resources, and management practices. Additionally, we collect physiological data, such as HRV (heart rate variability) using the Firstbeat device, which tracks rest time, working time, and exercise. Our focus areas include recovery, job crafting, servant leadership, engagement, and burnout.

More information about the Principal Barometer here.

Note: the survey is distributed in Finnish and Swedish, some of the material are translated to english.
