NEMARCO project: Dataset for the publication "Development of a new manufacturing route for NiCrSiFeB alloys by Direct Energy Deposition Laser Beam process (LMD)"

<p><strong>LMD dataset</strong></p> <p>This dataset gathers data from different parts of the Laser Metal Deposition metal Additive Manufacturing process (DED-LB). The dataset covers not only the process development data for samples manufacturing and monitored data of the melt pool size during the process, but also the metrics associated to the powder feedstock consumption, energy consumption and process efficiency.</p> <p><strong>Motivation</strong></p> <p>Nickel-based NiCrSiFeB alloy (Ni-Cr-Si-B self-fluxing family) are excellent candidates for replacing Cobalt-based alloys in aeronautical components such as sealing rings, valve seats, sliding bearing seats, etc. In this type of components, commonly manufactured by centrifugal casting and conventional processes, high temperature wear and stiffness under complex thermo-mechanical stresses cause lack of sealing and an increase in the wear rate. Metal additive manufacturing by direct laser metal deposition with powder (p-LMD) is presented as a potential manufacturing route for the complex processing of this type of alloys. This research work deals with the development of a new manufacturing route using p-LMD that ranges from the proper selection of the chemical composition for the starting powders, the development of the LMD process parameters to tackle the challenges associated to the wide &nbsp;solidification range and crack susceptibility of Ni-Cr-Si-B alloys, its monitoring and control, as well as the post- processing required to achieve the manufacture of aeronautical components.</p>

If more than one curve was plotted from the csv file, the conditions can also be found at the beginning of corresponding columns.</p>

Data from: Resolving the heading-direction ambiguity in vertical-beam radar observations of migrating insects

1. Each year, massive numbers of insects fly across the continents at heights of hundreds of metres, carried by the wind, bringing both environmental benefits and serious economic and social costs. To investigate the insects' flight behaviour and their response to winds, entomological radar has proved to be a particularly valuable tool; however, its observations of insect orientation are ambiguous with regard to the head/tail direction and this greatly hinders interpretation of the migrants' flight behaviour. 2. We have developed two related methods of using wind data to resolve the head/tail ambiguity and we have compared their outputs with those from simply assigning the heading direction to be that which is closer to the track direction. We applied all three methods to observations of Australian Plague Locust migrations made with an Insect Monitoring Radar. 3. For the study dataset, some of the headings selected by the simpler method are shown to be clearly incorrect. The two new methods generally agree and reveal a significantly different, and presumably more accurate, relationship of heading direction to track direction. However, use of these methods leads to quite a large proportion of the sample being lost because the wind values, which derive from a regional-scale numerical model, are shown to be incompatible with the radar observations. This exploratory study has moreover demonstrated that locusts are frequently oriented at a large angle to their track, and that quite often their movement is at least slightly tail-first. 4. Both new methods appear to be a significant improvement on the simpler method. As well as providing an accurate representation of migratory flight behaviour, they allow occasions when the model wind values are unreliable to be eliminated from the data sample.

Data Repository: Direct electron beam writing of silver using a β-diketonate precursor: first insights

<h2>Summary</h2> <p>The data is contained in a single zip file with the two main folders: "Tungsten_SEM_deposition" and "FESEM_deposition".&nbsp;</p> <p>The folder "Tungsten_SEM_deposition" contains all used data from deposition experiments in the Hitachi S3600 tungsten filament scanning electron microscope (SEM) using the precursor (hfac)AgPMe3 with the home-built gas-injection system.</p> <p>The folder "FESEM_deposition" contains all used data from deposition in the Zeiss Crossbeam 340 KMAT using the field emitter scanning electron microscope (FESEM) capability of the dual beam instrument using the precursor (hfac)AgPMe3 with the commercial gas-injection system (Kleindiek).</p> <p>In each folder all raw SEM images related to these experiments are provided. Intense, directed neutron beams from a laser-driven neutron source at PHELIX

<p>Laser-driven neutrons are generated by the conversion of laser-accelerated ions via<br> nuclear reactions inside a converter material. We present results from an experimental<br> campaign at the PHELIX laser at GSI in Darmstadt where protons and deuterons<br> were accelerated from thin deuterated plastic foils with thicknesses in the m and sub-<br> m range. The neutrons were generated inside a sandwich-type beryllium converter,<br> leading to reproducible neutron numbers around 10<sup>11</sup> neutrons per shot. The angular<br> distribution was measured with a high level of detail using up to 30 bubble detectors<br> simultaneously. It shows a laser forward directed component of up to 1.42 x 10<sup>10</sup><br> neutrons per steradian, corresponding to a dose of 43 mrem scaled to a distance of<br> 1m from the converter.</p>
