The data in this package is associated with the analysis for a manuscript titled "Multiple community properties drive ecosystem resistance and resilience to extreme climate events across mesic grasslands". The files include compiled data on plant biomass production, species abundance, experimental treatments, extreme climate event values, and calculated diversity and stability measures from grassland plots in experiments at CDR, KBS, and KNZ LTER sites.

National Phenology Network tree phenology: Phenology, the timing of biological events such as bud break, plant flowering times and bird migration
Phenology is the study of recurring plant/animal phenophases. Environmental changes will likely impact phenological events at the species level and above. Most of the phenological changes are unknown at the species level and may have large impacts on natural ecosystems in the future. As part of a long term phenological experiment on forest ecosystems, since spring 2009 phenophases were observed on strategically selected forest species. This experiment is part of the National Phenology Network (USA-NPN).
Southern Hemisphere coasts are biologically connected by frequent, long-distance rafting events
<p>Globally, species distributions are shifting in response to environmental change, and those that cannot disperse risk extinction. Many taxa, including marine species, are showing poleward range shifts as the climate warms. In the Southern Hemisphere, however, circumpolar oceanic fronts can present formidable barriers to dispersal<sup>4</sup>. Although passive, southward movement of species across this barrier has been considered unlikely, the recent discovery of buoyant kelp rafts on beaches in Antarctica demonstrates that such journeys are possible. Rafting is a key process by which diverse taxa – including terrestrial and coastal marine species – can cross oceans. Kelp rafts can carry passengers, and thus can act as vectors for long-distance dispersal of coastal organisms. The small numbers of kelp rafts previously found in Antarctica do not, however, shed much light on the frequency of such dispersal events. We here use a combination of high-resolution phylogenomic analyses (>220,000 SNPs) and oceanographic modelling to show that long-distance biological dispersal events in the Southern Ocean are not rare. We document tens of kelp (<em>Durvillaea antarctica</em>) rafting events of thousands of kilometres each, over several decades (1950 – 2019), with many kelp rafts apparently still reproductively viable. Modelling of dispersal trajectories from genomically-inferred source locations shows that some distant landmasses are particularly well connected, for example South Georgia and New Zealand, and the Kerguelen Islands and Tasmania. Our findings illustrate the power of genomic approaches to track, and modelling to show frequencies, of long-distance dispersal events.</p> <p> </p>

Data from: Analysing ecological dynamics with relational event models: the case of biological invasions
<p>Dynamic species invasions network: sender nodes are species and receiver nodes are regions as defined in the FirstRecords database. The dataset covers four taxonomic groups (i.e., mammals, birds, plants, insects) and a fixed time-frame [1880–2005] over which the invasion process of the species occurs into the regional set of the 272 pre-specified regions. The dataset includes 16,403 invasion events recorded for 4,835 species (615 birds, 186 mammals, 3,920 plants, and 114 insect species). The average number of invasion events per taxonomic group is ~5 records per insect species, ~4 per bird and mammal species, and ~3 recorded events per plant species. On average, ~46 invasion events are recorded per region, ranging from 1 to 1,685 events. 157 regions had less than 15 observations, with 33% of these regions located in Africa; 36 regions had more than 100 records.</p>
